Gym Class Magazine

selectism - gym-class-magazine-01

The monday morning magazine post is turning into a bit of a tradition here at SL. This week it’s Gym Class magazine which gets the SL nod of approval. Aside from being exceedingly good looking (just look at that spread above), there’s also a varied amount of interviews – featuring everyone from the folks at Kasino A4 to creator of Fuck Yeah Beards. At a succinct 12 page length, it’s going for quality over quantity, but at least it won’t feel like a workout if you take it on the morning commute. (Gym Class Magazine)

Take a look at more spreads after the leap.

This one just came in the box. Reyn Spooner has relaunched for Spring 2010. Is it too soon to start thinking beach? “Reyn Spooner, the iconic Hawaiian manufacturer of casual, surf-inspired clothing, kicks off a return to its roots as a staple of the endless summer with the introduction of a re-engineered, re-scaled and re-colored men’s SS 2010 premium collection aimed expressly at a younger, fashion-forward consumer.  Always influenced by Hawaii, the collection honors Reyn Spooner’s 54-year old heritage by dipping into the company’s rich archives of unique fabrics and prints for an updated take on their signature aloha shirts, along with shorts, pants and swim trunks.”

Selectism - Whitest Boy Alive plays Mexico City, Erlend Oye has glasses stolen by unruly Mexis

01. Plane Janes

“We’re told that there was a magical time long ago when, whatever your seat assignment, flying was first-class. But when did it all end? Last week, Marie Force, the archivist at the Delta Heritage Museum in Atlanta, published an online gallery of photographs of Delta flight attendant uniforms from 1940 to the present.” (themoment)

02. Whitest Boy Alive plays Mexico City, Erlend Oye has glasses stolen by unruly Mexis (above)

“The Whitest Boy Alive is a band that contains the member Erlend Oye, one of the most beloved alt celebs of all time. Their show is known as an indie pop fiesta which features dancing + chill vibes… Recently, they played a show in Mexico City, and Erlend Oye had his glasses stolen by the crowd. In the video, you can see the awkward moment as he climbed the balcony, had his glasses removed, then had people yelling “lentes, lentes”, which we assume is the Spanish /Mexican word for glasses. Erlend has the ultimate face of ‘not chill, bro’ to all of the Mexican fans.” (hrunoff)

03. An interview w/ Oderus Urungus of Gwar

“In an announcement given to a “bunch of penguins”, from the bowels of their Antarctic fortress, the worlds sickest band, the mighty GWAR, has announced the continuation of their 25th Anniversary with a public event of colossal proportion–The Crack-a-Thon!” (bvegan)

04. A Barcode That Recedes With a Veggie’s Freshness

“Walking through the produce aisle shouldn’t be as mysterious as the ingredients on the back of a bag of Cheetos, but sometimes picking out fresh produce can be a befuddling task even for the most seasoned herbivore. Fresh Code, by designers Sisi Yuan, Yiwu Qiu, Lei Zhao, Qiulei Huang, Lijun Zhang & Weihang Shu is a straightforward solution developed as an intelligent barcode not only able to price an item, but also indicate the freshness level of the produce on which it’s affixed. Each bar code uses a special ink that recedes in correlation with passing time and a percentage graph indicating the remaining life of the veggie at hand. So is it time to cook it or compost it? This cabbage looks like it’s on its way out!” (inhabitant)

Selectism - Whyszeck Spring/Summer 2010

Whyszeck’s Spring/Summer 2010 is their 10th season in production… and they are celebrating a bit. “More looks from the Whyszeck Spring/Summer 2010 collection. “The SS/10 continues on where FW/09 left off, along the bohemian trail and deeper into casual workwear & towards iconic sportswear, with small hints of nautical influence,
It handles remodeled casual classics such as the ‘worker jacket’ & the ‘perfecto motorcycle jacket’ made in denim versions, the ‘Baseball/bomber jacket’ in woven cotton fabric, slacks made in Corduroy, “The Carpenter shirt” in washed poplin, Washed knitwear & crinkled T-shirts, All are styles which fit perfectly into the setting of the collection…”

Lee Harkness Shirt Co.

Selectism - Lee Harkness Shirt Co.

Jussara Lee and Oliver Harkness, are the minds behind the Lee Harkness Shirt Co. The line, originally fashioned for women, has turned into something more unisex giving the boys a chance to check out their wears. ”With Lee Harkness Shirt Co., Jussara and Oliver wanted to address a certain lifestyle and ritualistic practice in men’s dress. Their inspiration comes from an era when men would roll up their sleeves, go to work, and at the end of the day, change their collarsrather than their shirts to go to dinner or the theater. In so doing, LHSC took the detachable collar as a starting point and by offering 4 styles (full spread, semi-spread, rounded and wingtip) built a collection around it. The resulting union is a beautiful collection of finely cut shirts.”

Hublot Liberty Bullet

Selectism - Hublot Liberty Bullet

I have told myself many times that I will not post another Big Bang on Selectism. I stand by that.

But Hublot is doing more inside their company than developing new colorways for the BB. Perpetuelle points us at this Hublot “bullet” as seen at Baselworld 2010. “What we have here is a reinterpretation of the pocket watch in the form of a gun cartridge, poetically christened ‘Liberty’ and housing a Tourbillon.  These bullets can be worn on a bracelet or as a pendant or I suppose even carried in one’s pocket.  They are constructed with a titanium bullet head and black aluminum base.   As you can see, the time display is a roller display.  ’Whether your desire is to save time, let it slip by or even kill it…’” #fyeah
