Bernard Zins for Limoland Pants Spring/Summer 2010

Selectism - Bernard Zins for Limoland Pants Spring/Summer 2010

Limoland goes directly to the best when developing this new collection of trouser pants with the Bernard Zins Paris brand. Our editors in Berlin love the bright bold colors and want us to recommend the red trousers which have been working well on the Italian streets. They suggest we move this trend Stateside. Maybe these Limoland trousers will help the cause.

Selectism - Fake London Autumn/Winter 2010

Stylesalvage talks up the latest collection from the (returning) Fake London. “In its last incarnation, Fake London sold a sense of Englishness back to this little island by boldly using British heritage iconography such as the Union Jack, the British Bull Terrier and Bulldog, the crown and the Royal crest. At this time, these symbols were considered uncomfortable, kitsch or even outright politically incorrect, however, Fake London’s avant-garde approach paid off and duly saw it crowned the fashion label of choice for a Brit Pop generation.” The line returns with the help of some Italian investment. We’ll keep our eyes on the new Fake.

Selectism - Naoto Fukasawa for Plus Minus Zero Wrist Watch

The Plus Minus “Collections” are experiments in simplistic design. Every day objects from fans to kettles make up the Five Collections of products available from the Aoyama, Tokyo shop. Designer Naoto Fukasawa looks designs under the uniform concept of starting from zero and ending at the user’s experience and purchase of product. Check the site but for now enjoy this simple take on the wrist watch. (dailyicon)

Lord of the Logos: Designing the Metal Underground Book

Selectism - Lord of the Logos: Designing the Metal Underground Book

Now this is my kind of book. Gestalten brings together the art and color of metal by compiling the work of Christophe Szpajdel into Lord of the Logos. “This book is a collection of work by Christophe Szpajdel, an artist whose fans in the underground black metal community worship him as the Lord of the Logos. It includes hundreds of powerful logos, each of which captures the force of this musical genre anew. Through his surprising use of aesthetic influences such as art deco and nature, Szpajdel has brought a new dynamic into the gothic visuality of heavy metal.” May we ad that it is also styled around a black prayerbook? Also seen on Curated.

Available now from Amazon Lord of the Logos: Designing the Metal Underground Book.

Our motto for this post is ‘why wait?’ We posted up the handsome footwear from the DS Dundee Autumn/Winter 2010 collection yesterday, so we might as well show you the full collection today. As you’d expect from DS, the collection’s focused on classic pieces rather than statement ones, with jackets made from Harris tweed, fair isle jumpers and shawl collar cardigans all featuring, there’s a piece or two for everyone in this collection.

Take a leap to see the rest of the collection.

Patrik Ervell ‘200 Standard Buttondown’ Shirt

Selectism - patrik-ervell-printed-buttondown-shirt-01

‘This isn’t for everyone’ is a phrase tailor made (geddit?) for a shirt like this. Prints are always marmite with the menswear population, but we’re just happy to see a print that isn’t floral (which no one’s really got right yet). It’s got the club collars we’ve come to expect from Mr. Ervell and whilst the price is far from cheap ($280) It’s still relatively – and we know we’re stretching that word to the limit – affordable. (Opening Ceremony)

Song remains the same, detailed images after that leap.

Studio Job “Industry Series”

selectism - Studio Job "Industry Series"

Marquetry is an amazing craft. Studio Job takes the traditional technique and adds some contemporary twists for their “Industry Series,” which will be on display from today at Carpenters Workshop Gallery in London.

The series takes rather pedestrian forms – table, screen, wardrobe – and infuses them with icons that create a dialouge with contemporary societal issues. They’ve used Indian rose wood for the cases and the inlay of maple creates a wonderful contrast in the wood. Studio Job, comprised of Job Smeets and Nynke Tyngel, balance images of nature (birds, insects) with more industrial icons (buildings, weapons) and skeletons to produce complex narratives on the furniture.

They’ve previously exhibited in Telling Tales at the Victoria & Albert Museum. “Industry Series” will be on view through May 8, 2010. CWG is located at 3 Albermarle St, London, W1s. (via Dezeen).

Lounge Lizard Derby Shoes

Selectism - lounge-lizard-derby-shoes-01

The sun’s out – which means it’s time to start posting up white shoes. We don’t follow the no white in winter rule too closely, but there’s something just a little ’sleazy playboy’ about wearing shoes that match the snow. But now spring’s here we can relax those rules and show off these Lounge Lizard derbies. If you can get hold of these – no easy feat – then they’ll act as a great finisher to a muted outfit. (Mindtrive)

If, for some bizarre reason, you’re just not into white shoes there’s brown and black colourways after the leap.
