Topman Design Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection

Selectism - Topman Design Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection

While the Brits may look at the Topman line in a certain context, Stateside we’re still a bit open to the brand in the same way we’re open to UNIQLO. Follow? Good. With that, we present a preview of the Topman Design Autumn/Winter 2010 offering. It’s their runway friendly line. We’re told some of it may be found through their retail doors but you’ll have more luck online. The use of Earth tones – browns, reds, mustard – may please gentleman looking for more than solids for the season – though they’re also here. Dip and give us your take on the collection in the comments. cqc

Mercedes-Benz G 55 AMG Mansory LE “G-Couture” by Philip Plein

Selectism - Mercedes-Benz G 55 AMG Mansory LE "G-Couture" by Philip Plein

The title of this post took a while to get right. I blame the hands of AMG and Philip Plein for over-making the Benz G 55 into some thing which is a bit tough for my tastes (hence the massive title). Autoblog agrees. “While we aren’t necessarily against fully cladding a G55 in carbon fiber, our hesitation with the G-Couture is less about the concept and more about the execution. The front end particularly looks overly-styled, and the unpainted fibers seem more appropriate on a sports car. We can, however, appreciate the upgrades done underneath the hood. Mansory has boosted the supercharged V8 to 700 horsepower and 649 lb-ft torque. Necessary? Of course not, but impressive nonetheless.”

selectism - Jaquet Droz by Manuel Emch

Another strong book for watch lovers from Assouline.

We featured the upcoming Tag Heuer book not long ago, and now point you towards Jaquet Droz Jaquet Droz by Manuel Emch . Droz opened his studio in 1738 and captivated the courts of Europe. His enameled timepieces were particularly popular. From that moment to the present, Jaquet Droz as a brand has held on to a spirit of invention.

Maneul Emch, Swiss watch, expert explains it all in this richly illustrated volume.

Won Hundred Brass Windbreaker Jacket

Selectism - Won Hundred Brass Windbreaker Jacket

Here’s another windbreaker to consider for the Spring. “Danish brand Won Hundred once again bring their conceptual sensibilties in line with a classic aesthetic in the shape of this lightweight windbreaker style hooded jacket. Subtle detailing is effortlessly emobodied by the asymmetrical cut of the front fastenings that both button down and zip up. This is versatility at it’s most stylish.” Glassboutique has it.

Elka for Norse Projects Rain Coat

03 March 2010, 18.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - norse-projects-elka-raincoat-01

Despite all our optimistic recommendations of shorts and other lightweight garb, you can be sure that it’ll rain at some point. Which is why you need a coat like this. Made in collaboration with rainwear experts Elka, this Norse Projects rain coat will protect you from any random downpour coming your way  – and you’ll look good doing it. Why did we highlight the red colourway over the olive green and navy ones? Glad you didn’t ask.  Even the most stylish of stylish men (and if you’re reading this site, you’re undoubtedly part of that elite) can go overboard when it comes to purchasing jackets in one colourway. Consider this a colour boost to the murky navy waters of your wardrobe. (Norse Store)

Our Legacy Black Selvedge Jeans

selectism - our-legacy-black-selvedge-jeans-01

Remember that thing we said about two hours ago about not posting much denim? It still stands – this is just a denim heavy day. Our Legacy continue in their quest to become the new APC with these black selvedge jeans. Black jeans have always been associated the skinnier side of the sizing spectrum, meaning it’s quite the ordeal to find a pair of black jeans that don’t feel like two boa constrictors on your legs. Our Legacy have taken notice of this, making this pair of straight leg (with a slight taper) jeans with that good ol’ selvedge denim that everyone knows and loves. It’s like they’ve read our minds. (Tres Bien)

Take that leap, see those shots.

Albam Denim Taper Chino

03 March 2010, 14.30 | Posted in Denim | No comments »

Selectism - albam-denim-chino

This isn’t new per se, but it is relevant for the season that’s just around the corner. Our relatively sparse postings on denim aren’t out of hate, it’s because we’re all such heavyweight denim wearers that shopping for new pairs is unnecessary. When it takes a year to break the pair you have, you’re not gonna be on the market for another pair, are you? But these denim chinos are perfect for the guy who loves his denim and doesn’t want to give them up just because it’s summer (i.e. us). As you’d expect from Albam it’s reasonably priced – we wonder why Albam biters bother when the original stuff is so affordable – at £85. (Albam)
