Paul Smith Striped Leather Wallet

Selectism - Paul Smith Striped Leather Wallet

A wallet the long way is how Paul Smith is doing it. Truthfully, they sit in your pocket better than the wide billfolds. Color wise it is a gawker. “Tall leather wallet from Paul Smith with multi-coloured stripes and white stitch detail. The wallet is black leather internally, with card holders on either side.” Farfetch has them.

Vivienne Westwood Opens MAN Store

Selectism - Vivienne Westwood Opens MAN Store

Dazed gives a look inside the new Vivienne Westwood MAN Store in London. “A few doors down from 44 Conduit Street, the classic retail home of Vivienne Westwood, there is now a Westwood MAN store! Cue joyful screams. For far too long the male Westwood shopper has been forced to venture down the stairs to the cellar of No. 44, but with last week’s shop launch, dedicated male customers can now spread out to fully enjoy themselves. The shop – at 18 Conduit Street – have the textural qualities of stone, ‘shuttered’ concrete, rusted steel and wide oak boards as flooring. Nickel-plated rails and cabinets will provide a crisp contrast to this earthy tone.”

Are We There Yet?

selectism - Are We There Yet?

The classic American driving vacation gets some well deserved dues in Are We There Yet?, an exhibition at Omaha’s Durham Museum. Through diagrams and a special loan of 30 pedal cars from the collection of motor enthusiast Bill Smith, Are We There Yet? introduces not just iconic locations, but visions of the motors that delivered travelers as well. You can visit the classics – Mt. Rushmore, the Golden Gate Bridge, Mons Venus (just kidding there) – and revel in the beauty of classic American road vessels.

Certainly a fun idea, the make up of the exhibition and its two fold action is both unique and a fitting tribute to the road trip.

On view through May 2, 2010.

Video | The Morning Benders – Excuses

26 March 2010, 15.30 | Posted in Music | No comments »

Here’s some Friday afternoon viewing for you folks. The Morning Benders – whose album you should really have by now – grouped together a rag tag of San Francisco’s finest musicians to create a musical tribute to Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound. Created by music site Yours Truly, it’s quite a video. But enough nonsense from us, just enjoy the video. (Via It’s Nice That)

Acne Dusty Blue Sweatshirt

Selectism - acne-sweatshirt-01

We’ve got a love/hate relationship with vintage sweatshirts. Namely, we love the way they look and hate the way they fit. And just so you know, rolling up the sleeves isn’t fooling anyone. So that’s why we like this Acne dusty blue sweatshirt – it’s got the vintage look mixed with an updated cut. This shade of blue may be a little too summery for right now, but it’d be perfect when the weather decided to perk up again. (Opening Ceremony)
Take that leap, see those images.

Our Legacy Navy Flecked Wool Blazer

selectism - our-legacy-blue-blazer-01

Our favourite aspect about a blazer is that you can’t help but look sharp in one. Regardless of the materials used, you will look just that little bit more dapper dan in a blazer. Our Legacy’s flecked wool number may look a little off when done up to the high heavens, but undo that top button and you’ve got a handsome two button blazer. (Coggles)

Detailed images after the leap.

Selectism - La Bolleur: Mini Golf Course

1. “Six days after it began, the arguably most-epic Layer Tennis Match ever ends.”

Layer Tennis—the experimental, anything-goes, live design “matches”—have been holding a series of exhibitions leading up to their Third Season. The last round ended today, with another exhibition starting tomorrow. (layertennis)

2. Girls Post Tour Diary Video, Cover Radiohead

“While we patiently await their forthcoming “best EP of all time,” Owens and company have uploaded two videos to helps us feel that unique emotion in the meantime: a new tour diary video from their spring European tour and a cover of Radiohead’s “No Surprises” performed live in Gothenburg, Sweden.” (twentyfourbit)

3. La Bolleur: Mini Golf Course (bbove)

“La Bolleur is a former brothel in the city of Eindhoven, located in the Netherlands. Five years ago, three guys—Timon van der Hijden, Zowie Jannink and Steie van Vugt— took over the former lounge and remade it into a space for creative projects. The place functioned as a clubhouse for people of all stripes, and moonlighted as a restaurant, comedy night, dance party, movie theater and art gallery. The La Bolleur collective expanded (more dudes joined) and the rest, as they say, is history.” (weloveyouso)

4. Hacker Gets 20 Years in Largest Card Theft in U.S. History

“A computer hacker from Florida was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison for helping engineer one of the largest thefts of credit and debit card numbers in American history.” (nyt)

The Process | Icarus Frames Custom Bicycle No. 11

Selectism - The Process | Icarus Frames Custom No. 11 Bicycle

This post is a personal one for as the product being shown is, for lack of a better term, custom for me (I did not say bespoke!). Having ridden bicycles up and down the East Coast for decades, I felt it time to get my own custom frame built; a frame which was measured and sized proper for my specs as well as my tastes. More importantly, I wanted it to be built locally in Massachusetts.

Frame building is all about the craftsmanship and the process involved. Not all builders use the same techniques. This was important in how I selected my builder, Ian Sutton of Icarus Frames, located in Somerville, MA inside the Fringe Movement building. He uses techniques not commonly used by many builders.

I first set eyes on an Icarus during a gallery show at OPEN around the block. The bike – Miguels No.7 – blew me away with simple finish details that I had not seen before. In my mind, I had no other choice but to go with an Icarus.

Above is the finished product – the No. 11 (the 11th frame built under the Icarus name). At the time of this writing, Ian has begun work on No. 15.

I asked Ian to describe the process and details in the No. 11 (with a parts list included at the end of the post) . Read it after the click.

Selectism - Editor’s Selections | John Varvatos Spring/Summer 2010

Nick Schonberger here writing this little intro on Jeff Carvalho.

What to say about Jeff Carvalho? He’s a bike enthusiast [wait for the next post if you don't believe me]. Cap lover… as long as they fit his huge mellon. And, one of the world’s biggest proponents of Noise music. Music, in fact, is Jeff’s biggest passion. A passion that bred his interest in fashion and his particular (if not peculiar) world view.

As head honcho, Jeff has the privilege of offering the lastest “selections” from the  John Varvatos Spring/Summer 2010 collection. His picks are both dark in color, which clearly pull from the record he is probably listening to at the moment: the Varvatos Limited Edition Summer Parka and the Varvatos Flight Pant.
