Tanner Goods Eyeglass Case

selectism - Tanner Goods Eyeglass Case

We’ve featured some handsome glasses in the past few months, but rarely taken the time to investigate a proper carrying case. Tanner Goods (who’ve just launched a lovely new website) offer their version of a 1960s US Military standard. Of course, it is made of leather. The case comes in three varieties – Black, Havana and Saddle Tan – hand made in Portland, OR with vegetable dyed English Bridle leather. Each case is stamped by hand with the model number.

Check out the Black and Saddle Tan versions after the jump.

Our Legacy Laptop Case

selectism - our-legacy-laptop-case

We’re always a little confused at the amount of brands who don’t make laptop cases. Judging from the amount of generic laptop cases with brand stickers slapped on them, there’s clearly a few companies missing a trick here. Our Legacy obviously isn’t one of them. This one comes in two sizes 13″ and 15″ and is available in the kind of leather that folks would call rugged. (Tres Bien)

Selectism - Ariel with a touch of Downy: Fresh

01. Ariel with a touch of Downy: Fresh (above)

“In order to demonstrate Ariel with a touch of Downy’s specially formulated fragrance of just-washed laundry, and the fact that it lasts for up to 5 days, Saatchi & Saatchi, Dubai created special packages that resembled the fresh produce commonly displayed in supermarket aisles. While doing their weekly groceries, shoppers were surprised to find a new variety of produce: freshly laundered clothing.” (adsoftheworld)

02. Jay-Z ‘to invest in Arsenal

“Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, said: ‘I don’t know a lot about the business of soccer, but in the future if the right opportunity presented itself, then who knows? I am a businessman, and I will always look at an opportunity, and if it feels right great.’ ” (mirrorfootball)

03. Digging in the Crates [Flash, Sound] | Installation

“Digging in the Crates is an interactive installation by Roland Loesslein which attempts to explore Sampling as a production technology of modern music. Dynamic music data is navigated using modified turntables with information graphics helping understand the complex relationships that exist between the sample and composition.” (creativeapplications)

04. Manny Pacquiao’s Great, But How Would He Have Faired Against Thomas Hearns!?

“There is little doubt Filipino southpaw and genuine boxing superstar Pacquiao is a fighter who has earned himself a place among the all time greats of the sport. From flyweight up to welterweight, the 31-year-old has dominated and won a major belt and, incredibly, it is while operating as a welterweight that Pac-Man has appeared to be getting even better. Taking care of top names Oscar De La Hoya (albeit a weight drained version), Miguel Cotto and, most recently, the much bigger Joshua Clottey, Pacquiao has more than proven his worth as a 147-pounder. However, what would have happened had the current pound-for-pound king been forced to face a peak Thomas Hearns at the weight he now fights at?” (eastsideboxing)

The Yugo: The Rise and Fall of the Worst Car in History Book

Selectism - The Yugo: The Rise and Fall of the Worst Car in History Book

I was under the impression that the Trabant was the worst car ever made but Jason Vuic has me thinking differently. Amazon’s description of the book The Yugo: The Rise and Fall of the Worst Car in History The Yugo: The Rise and Fall of the Worst Car in History Book, is awesome…

“Six months after its American introduction in 1985, the Yugo was a punch line; within a year, it was a staple of late-night comedy. By 2000, NPR’s Car Talk declared it ‘the worst car of the millennium.’ And for most Americans that’s where the story begins and ends. Hardly. The short, unhappy life of the car, the men who built it, the men who imported it, and the decade that embraced and discarded it is rollicking and astounding, and one of the greatest untold business-cum-morality tales of the 1980s. Mix one rabid entrepreneur, several thousand ‘good’ communists, a willing U.S. State Department, the shortsighted Detroit auto industry, and improvident bankers, shake vigorously, and you’ve got The Yugo: The Rise and Fall of the Worst Car in History The Yugo: The Rise and Fall of the Worst Car in History Book.”

Available now from Amazon The Yugo: The Rise and Fall of the Worst Car in History Book.

Selectism - Native Son Notch Lapel Stripe Blazer

We first ran into the Native Son line in Paris this Winter. We’ve previewed their Autumn collection but with Spring pieces in the shops, we think it is best to bring some shine to out favorites. This “notch lapel stripe blazer” is a special look for a special guy. “Silk and linen slim two-button single vented suit jacket with notch lapels, working cuff buttons, double welt flap pockets, Bemberg rayon lining, and dual interior chest pockets in bold black, charcoal, and dark teal stripe pattern. Union made in the U.S.A.” Blackbird has it for just under 1500$US. It’s up there, guys.

Patek Philippe 5960P Blue Dial Chronograph

Selectism - Patek Philippe 5960P Blue Dial Chronograph

Patek Philippe should be covered more often on this here site, but then it may get overblown the way Hublot has. So we’ll play it safe and roll with the finest of watchmakers as only necessary. Today, it is necessary. We bring attention to the Patek Philippe 5960P Blue Dial Chronograph with the help of Perpetuelle. “Lust” is about the only word that comes to mind. “This watch, combining two of the most popular horological complications (calendar and chronograph), has ranked among of Patek’s bestsellers since it was launched in 2006.  This year’s third and newest addition to the collection has a vivid matte blue sunburst dial that is undoubtedly the defining element of this watch.” The case: platinum. My wallet: empty. I dare not list the retail price (think about a year’s salary for most…)

The Milwaukee Beer Museum

selectism - milwaukee beer museum

You might have noticed a recent push of online exhibitions here. Reason being is they work well to share interesting bits of history to a broad audience but rarely have the required PR push to spike the traffic they deserve.

Milwaukee’s brewing history gets the shine it deserves at the Milwaukee Beer Museum. The site is easily navigable and includes a fantastic array of ephemera and photographs. Something to take note of is the decided push for architectural images. The city is in and of itself a brewing museum, and the accents to brew buildings just as inventive and amusing as the advertising schemes.

I’ve chosen to highlight some of the pieces related to Blatz, a rarely discussed beer, and think this segement of the site indicative of the whole. Equally strong are the sections on Miller and Pabst.

Read on to view more excellent pieces of Blatz’s history.

Selectism - Taniel Pogharian Cotton Grey Pants

For those days that you tire of your denim and khaki, consider a pair of grey pants to let people know you can think on dark matter as well. I own a pair of grey oversized pants for those hangover dark days. After looking at these Taniel Pogharian Cotton Grey Pants, I think I would prefer a more straight leg affair.  These feature a roomy 17inch opening on the bottom and some interesting pocket treatments on the backside. Available from Revolve for 176$US.

Selectism - Godspeed Furniture

Yatzer turns us onto the furniture of Godspeed Tel Aviv. “Godspeed, a small conceptual furniture studio based out of Tel Aviv, Israel sees the opportunity of giving life back to these overlooked and undesired materials that end up in trash. Joy van Erven (Holland) and Finn Ahlgren (Sweden) possess an unorthodox mentality and a purposeful choice of materials opposing the high style world of design that lead into a conceptual furniture company that embraces waste and gives it a second life or better said, a life.” Read the full story at Yatzer.
