Selectism - Timo Weiland Asymmetric Militia Coat in Black

A long coat for those evening affairs from Timo Weiland’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection. The asymmetric shape of the jacket standout when places against the right trousers. Otherwise the jacket remains traditional in nature with a two button finish and front pockets. FF has them.

Trussardi City Bicycle

Selectism - Trussardi City Bicycle

Yes, I could post one of a million commuter bicycles out there today, but this one caught my eye due to the camo bag details. “Almost 30 years ago, the first historic Trussardi bicycle was built.  Today, we have the pleasure of reintroducing a new citybike, the Trussardi 1911.  The chassis is made of steel and coated in a special paint that reproduces the tones of the leather collection.  It is accompanied with a camouflage bag, a true symbol of the ‘Maison.’  The Trussardi 1911 includes golden detailing on the mudguards.”

Myths, Legends, and Cultural Renewal: Wagner’s Sources

selectism - Myths, Legends, and Cultural Renewal: Wagner's Sources

Exploring the reinvention of Germanic and Nordic folk traditions, Myths, Legends, and Cultural Renewal: Wagner’s Sources is on view at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art through August 16, 2010.

About the exhibition -

Reinvented and passed on by each generation, myths, legends, and fables have continued to fascinate artists into the modern era. Many of the operatic works of Richard Wagner are deeply rooted in the German and Nordic traditions of folk tales and legends, Goethe drew upon German folklore for his description of the Walpurgisnacht, and the Brothers Grimm drew upon folk traditions in their retelling of popular fairy tales. This exhibition, organized by Timothy O. Benson, curator of LACMA’s Robert Gore Rifkind Center for German Expressionist Studies, explores Germanic myths and legends in various embodiments in the modern era.

Mismo Limited Edition ‘Petrol’ collection

Selectism - mismo-limited-weekend-03

Mismo continue to roll out their limited edition collections, with their next drop set to be the ‘petrol’ collection. They’ve updated the weekend bag and the shopper, adding a strap to the latter piece, allowing you to make use of both your hands. They’ve also added leather at the sole of the bag, which’ll make sure that the bag can stand up on its own better than previous versions.  There’s only 25 of each piece available, so you’ll have to be quick on the buzzer when they arrive in July at Tres Bien.

As always, more views are after the leap.

Common Projects Canvas Oxfords

Selectism - common-projects-canvas-oxfords-01

CP’s new gum sole achilles have done the rounds on our big brother site, so it’s only fair we draw some attention to these canvas oxfords. The recent price rises for Common Projects have moved them from vaguely affordable to a brand you have to save up for, but we feel that if you had to buy one pair of shoes for summer (and at 339 euros, you won’t have much left for another) you should make it these. (C Store)

Song remains the same, detailed images after the leap.

Chambre d’Ami Guest Bed/Coat Rack

Selectism - chambre-dali-01

This is for all those folks who’d secretly always wanted a coat rack combined with a guest bed (surely everyone’s dream invention?). French designer Matali Crasset teamed up with Italian brand Campeggi and created this bed/stand concoction. No word on pricing yet – although we’re guessing the price will be followed by the phrase, ‘why don’t you just buy them separately, it’ll be cheaper’. (Via Fader/Dezeen)

Take a leap to see this thing in action/various states of unfolding.

01. Newcomer to Food Television Tries for a Little Grit

“THE Food Network is trying to take it up a notch by taking it down a notch. The people who brought the brassy calorie-pusher Paula Deen, the energetic spice-sprinkler Emeril Lagasse and dozens of other stars to a mass audience are furiously preparing to start a spinoff network on May 31.” (NYT).

02. The Most Hideous Designs From the 2010 Milan Furniture Fair

“Players in the design world bring their A-game to the Milan Furniture Fair. But “A-game” is a relative term–and for every Kobe Bryant, there’s also a Manute Bol. For every amazing piece of eye candy  there’s always one so outrageous it makes you wonder: What. The. F***?” (Fastcompany).

03. Britain’s Best Independent Bookshops

“Oh business – how can people?’ wailed Nancy Mitford while attempting to discuss her share of Mayfair bookshop Heywood Hill in 1948; amazingly, it’s still there, even though the hilarious letters between Mitford and Hill make it clear that when it came to business, these people couldn’t, really. ” (Telegraph).

04. Kostya Tszyu Says He Would Return To The Ring If “Something Big” Were Offered

“Back in the late 1990s and early-to-mid 2000s, you would be hard pressed to find any pound-for-pound list without the name of Russian-born Australian 140-pounder Kostya Tszyu in there somewhere. And during this time when the superb fighting machine was defeating good men like Zab Judah, Jesse James Leija and Sharmba Mitchell, there was talk of a possible clash between “The Thunder From Down Under” and Floyd Mayweather Junior…” (Eastside Boxing).

Selectism - Tretorn for Comme des Garcons Sneakers

These CdG sneakers I dig and what a proper brand to work with. “Classic Swedish footwear brand Tretorn has once again collaborated on a canvas sneaker. This is a classic model from Tretorn but is a bit modified by Comme.” Tres Bien has them.
