Burberry re-imagines their trenchcoats and jackets for the change of weather. Their “April Showers” collection for Spring 2010 features new colorways on their classic cuts. While the trenches are in focus right now, the stow away jackets have caught our eye. Their simple front finish and packability make them appealing for those days when weather changes like girlfriends. You’ll see them in the gallery.

A new banger on the market from Rolex. In this OPENERS profile of the Rolex Oyster Submariner Date, we see a new face in green. The look of the green face gets some revamp since its introduction this decade. “Green Gold” is a feature of this model as well. “As the name suggests, the result of a combination of a light yellow gold materials.”

New books on New York life appear with an almost comforting regularity. Available now from Princeton Architectural Press, Life On the Lower East Side: Photographs By Rebecca Lepkoff, 1937-1950 presents the first monograph of (the then) young Lepkoff’s documentation of her home neighborhood. She traversed LES streets in the days before the demolition of the Alfred E. Smith housing project changed its flavor. Some 170 images capture a multi-ethnic close knit community, capturing the spirit of a now lost place.

Essays by historian Suzanne Wasserman and physician Peter Dans complement Lepkoff’s images.

As a team full of people who actually need glasses, clear lens glasses are a thorny issue. While part of us doesn’t get why someone would wear glasses when they don’t need to, we can also see that glasses often, as fashion mags say, ‘complete the look’. No institution does costume quite like the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Their latest entry in a long line of stellar exhibitions focus on the iconic style of Grace Kelly. Her look was cultivated by Hollywood, and came to represent a classic, understated vision of fashion. The exhibition examines the wardrobes she donned in film, the dresses made for her wedding, and the French haute couture required in her status as Princess of Monaco.

Male or female, style is style. At Selectism we can’t avoid appreciating true icons.

Spring’s here. We repeat, spring is here – not summer – so save your shorts for a couple of months down the line. We’ve seen far too many folks about who’ve failed to realise that sunny doesn’t always equal hot. What you (or that friend of yours who’s always first to get the shorts) need is a light jacket like this Creep number. Design-wise there’s a lot in common with denim jackets, but this won’t look like you’ve raided your little sisters wardrobe when you wear it (an unfortunate side effect of the cropped shape of most denim jackets).
