Toms Black Burlap Slip On Shoe

Selectism - Toms Black Burlap Slip On Shoe

Toms slip-ons are a solid choice for Spring wear. If you have not spent some time in a pair of their slip-ons, I would suggest you do. Their Black Burlap style is a pair I will be picking up. The simple black finish is simple enough to toss into a weekender bag. Rock them on the shores or in your favorite drinking establishment. Need has them.

Duffer Spring/Summer “Burnside” Sweatshirt

selectism - Duffer Spring/Summer "Burnside" Sweatshirt

I’m a total sucker for collegiate inspired garments. And, thanks to growing up in the ’80s and early ’90s a sucker for relatively large logos as well. Duffer’s spring/summer fleece offerings hit both marks, in particular the pictured “Burnside.” The piece comes in gray and navy, each with contrasting caramel buttons.

They are also easy on the wallet at a touch under 50 quid.

Selectism - Pitchfork Guide to Record Store Day TOMORROW April 17

01. Where to Watch the 2010 COACHELLA Music Festival Online

“If you actually want to watch some performances, Wrigley’s 5 Gum is sponsoring a branded live stream through Facebook that will begin Friday at 8 p.m. EDT/5 p.m. PDT, with three different cameras (theoretically covering three different stages) broadcasting. To check out the full schedule without installing the Coachella app, go here — the line-up includes some interesting offerings, including Passion Pit, Imogen Heap and Vampire Weekend on Friday; The XX, Hot Chip and Faith No More on Saturday; and Matt & Kim, Sly Stone & Friends, and Devo on Sunday, though none of the headlining acts.” (teevee)

02. Pitchfork Guide to Record Store Day TOMORROW April 17 (above)

“Fire up your wallets: tomorrow, April 17, is Record Store Day, the holiday that helps keep the independent vinyl emporiums of the world in business. As in years past, scores of bands and labels are helping out, sending exclusive material to indie stores, or playing or DJing in-stores sets. All of this is to convince people– people like you– to leave their houses and spend some hard-earned currency on physically released music, something that people seem less and less willing to do all the time.” (pitchfork)

03. Maintenance man chops off tree branch his ladder is leaning on, sues employer

“He took the action after health and safety inspectors concluded the hotel failed to carry out a risk assessment on the dangers of pruning. They also said that his employer should have given him training on where to place the ladder…” (bb)

04. Where Were You? 2009: Now available — for free!

“As some of you know, Where Were You? is a side project of mine that dates back many years: I note “where I was” when I learned of various notable deaths, and record any related thoughts. For the last few years, I have collected these entries into annual zines. For 2009, instead of printing and mailing physical zines, I’m making a year of entries available as a sort of e-zine.” (murketing)

Robert Geller for Common Projects Autumn/Winter 2010 Lookbook

Selectism - Robert Geller for Common Projects Autumn/Winter 2010 Lookbook

HS gives us a look into the forthcoming collection between Robert Geller and Common Projects. The lookbook itself was designed and shot by CP’s own Peter Poompat. “The idea was a cross-collaboration, where the Robert Geller crew designed leather goods; boots, a bag and belt, and Common Projects designed the clothes. Each brand would then produce the pieces the other brand designed. The result is the perfect outfit to take on a trip: A hat, trenchcoach, button up shirt, slim pant, razor thin belt, leather boots with removable spat and a suede weekend bag.”

Selectism - Nicholas K Spring/Summer 2010

Fashionisto gives their take on the Nichola K collection for Spring 2010. “Transitioning from the runway of New York Fashion Week to an understated lookbook, Nicholas K shows great versatility in being able to adapt across a wide spectrum of aesthetics. Generally somber with spontaneous splashes of color, spring’s collection brings together a semi-fitted array of coordinated separates and outerwear. From the safety of conservative shirting to engaging band stripes, Nicholas K dresses up a modern wardrobe of staples that keep their man grounded.”

Giuliano Fujiwara Eyewear for Autumn/Winter 2010

Selectism - Giuliano Fujiwara Eyewear for Autumn/Winter 2010

Giuliano Fujiwara’s collection of sunglasses and eyeglasses for Autumn 2010 are some of the best black acetate works I have seen this year. Geller’s Spring 09 offering being that last black frames to catch my attention, Fujiwara swells the frame into something much thicker while implanting the lens to look at though it is almost floating in the frame. These may well also give my Buzz Rolls a run for their money. (cqc)

Patrick Ervell’s New Online Shop

Selectism - Patrick Ervell's New Online Shop

HINT lets us know that doors opened to Patrik Ervell’s new online shop. “Patrik Ervell is braving the e-commerce fray with a new online shop. Not bad for an independent label that started modestly enough, churning out suspiciously chic outerwear basics. Who else but Ervell could reinvent the fleece zip-up as a fleece zip-up? But in only a few short years, the Northern California native has done just that, perfecting his incisive brand of sportswear down to a science, giving anoraks, windbreakers and khakis the deluxe treatment.”
