Helmut Lang Autumn/Winter 2010 Looks

Selectism - Helmut Lang Autumn/Winter 2010 Looks

Superfuture pointed us at these great looks into Helmut Lang’s Autumn 2010 collection. This is the first men’s collection under new creative director Naoki Takizawa. The tech colors used in for Autumn are impressive and allow for the collection to stand out amongst the pack. I for one am very excited to see what’s next from Helmut Lang. #recommended

Ten C

Selectism - Ten C Collection

Men’s Mentore, quite possibly the hottest Italian menswear blog of the moment, continues to kick out some great editorial on the emerging modern menswear scene in Italy. One collection which we actually saw in Berlin prior to this site was Ten C, but damn if they do not have the best looks into what is coming down the road from the Ten C line. The line was started by two former CP Company and Stone Island designers. “In a nutshell Ten C opens a small revolution in the world of proposing a new approach.” No doubt we’ll see more from this line. Spend some time in the gallery and check out Ten C.

Va La Family Farmed Wines

selectism - Va La Family Farmed Wines

Situated on a lovely plot in Avondale, PA, Va La Family Farmed Wines manages something of a rarity in the region – drinkable wine.

The property consists of 6.73 acres of land, all tended by winemaker/farmer Anthony Vietri. He produces between 500 to 700 cases a year. Each variety produced in a batch of one to nine barrels. Yes, it’s small scale. But, that scale allows for a careful investigation of every step.

The wines are blended – for example the delightful La Prima Donna includes tocai, malvasia bianco, petit manseng, pinot grigio, and viognier grapes. The wines are also only available direct from the vineyard. Combined with some spectacular Mexican eateries, well worth a drive up the Gap Pike this summer.

A look at the bottles and the farm after the jump.

TechnoMarine Cruise Night Vision Watches

Selectism - TechnoMarine Cruise Night Vision Watches

The simplicity of a black finish on a watch makes them overly appropriate for only a handful of event, but when you add some subtle hits of color on the face, that all changes. Example: these 45mm beauties from TechnoMarine. “Whether on a deep dive off the coast of Fiji or against the backdrop of a dark evening sky, Night Vision’s colored luminova dials are clearly visible on the all-black form of the watch. Technically inclined enthusiasts will be drawn to the 45mm chronograph model, whilst time-telling purists will seek out the fundamental form of the 45mm limited edition 3-hand automatic.”

First Look | COS Autumn/Winter 2010 Derby Shoes

13 April 2010, 17.30 | Posted in Shoes | 3 comments »

Selectism - cos-autumn-2010-shoeHere’s a sneaky peek at a handsome pair of derbies from COS’s upcoming Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. We’ve personally been neglecting black shoes for a while, but they’re a true wardrobe essential. Brown shoes are great and all, but there will always be a time when black shoes are necessary. COS have always been great for folks who want handsome shoes but don’t want to cross that £100 barrier and this shoes carry on that tradition. The mixture of leather and suede (leather’s used on the vamp, throat line and heel, whilst suede is used on the quarter) make this just a little more interesting than the usual derby. The £99 price tag doesn’t hurt either.

Comme Des Garcons Homme Plus Trousers

Selectism - comme-des-garcons-homme-plus-chinos-01

Only a few months ago we were moaning about not being able to find any trousers/chinos with patterned lining – now we can’t swing a cat without hitting a pair. While there’s been a number of high street versions, we reckon this is the sort of style you’re gonna want to spend a little money on; if you’re planning on wearing something everyday, you need it to hold up to a little wear and tear. And no, that pair you got from H&M isn’t gonna do the job. (Browns)

unis sitread front Sit and Read at Unis

Beginning on April 15, 2010, Brooklyn’s Sit and Read Furniture will present a limited selection of housewares at New York’s Unis. For the Nolita shop, Sit and Read’s Kyle Garner has handpicked a selection of vintage chairs and reupholstered them in remnant fabrics from Unis’ Spring/Summer 2010 collection. The pieces are, understandably, limited. As the relationship progresses, Sit and Read will continue to offer changing pieces at the Unis Flagship. (via Curated).

Anderson’s Reversible Belt

Selectism - anderson-reversible-belt-01

Despite all the relatively expensive things we feature here, we’re still pretty cheap at heart. Which is why we love products that can do double duty – like this Anderson’s belt. The tan leather side is for the more subdued times; you can wear it any time of year with minimal fuss. The white side is strictly for when the sun’s out in  full force – any other time and you risk looking a little Jersey Shore. (My Wardrobe)

John Smedley ‘Isis’ Polo Shirt

Selectism - john-smedley-isis-polo-shirt-01

We’re (back) on our polo shirts this summer and we’ve only got one requirement: no logos. A lot of companies tend to fall down at this point, with just about everyone failing to resist the urge to turn you into a walking billboard. But thankfully, you can trust good ol’ John Smedley – who still make everything in England, fact fans – to have a well made plain polo. Available in 16 colours (our favourite’s ‘professor plum’) it’s the sort of wardrobe staple that you wouldn’t – or shouldn’t – regret spending a bit of money on. (John Smedley)

Selectism - Antonas' Atypical Architecture

01. Antonas’ Atypical Architecture (above)

“Aristide Antonas is an architect, writer, Doctor of Philosophy and associate professor of architecture at Greece’s University of Thessaly. His Flickr page has a number of interesting architecture projects on it, like this double-decker-bus-cum-hotel…” (core77)

02. Italian Bike Lover’s Hotel Concept Perched High Above Lake Garda

“Hiding in Triangles is a new hotel for bike enthusiasts proposed by design firm Philip Modest Schambelan + Anton Fromm. The hotel — if built — will be perched on a cliff above Lake Garda in Italy. It is designed completely with bicyclists in mind. There are no stairs to get inside, just bike ramps which are perfectly inclined to get you and your two wheeled vehicle in and out with minimal effort.” (inhabitant)

03. Shit We’re Diggin: The Art of James Voller

“James Voller is a Wellington based artist whose practice investigates aspects of place, photography and site specific installation. Voller graduated from The University of Canterbury with Bachelor of Fine Art in Photography. His final years work was the successful documentary book and series On my way Home which was shown in the United States and New Zealand. Since then Voller has completed a Master of Fine Arts through The Royal Melbourne Institute Of Technology where he explored site specific installation and reconsidered the role of the camera in his practice resulting in work which questions the role of photograph in contemporary society.” (wooster)

04. Blue Rock House / Anmahian Winton Architects

“A new house, guesthouse, and garage form a community of buildings on a rural hilltop site, evoking a rural homestead. The buildings define a formal courtyard that opens to specific views of the Berkshire and Catskill Mountains. Copper, wood, and bluestone are the primary materials, deployed to affect a minimal and sculptural vocabulary. The buildings are embedded to varying degree within the rocky topography, and bluestone walls weave between architecture and landscape to reinforce their integration.” (archdaily)
