Peter Jensen Rabbit Jumper

Selectism - peter-jensen-rabbit-jumper-01

We’re trying to keep on the straight and narrow, honest, but pieces like this keep on calling us. We do love plain sweaters but, as the old cliche goes, variety’s the spice of life. The rabbit pattern is woven as opposed to printed on, making the £157 price tag look like a (relative) bargain. This won’t please everyone – we can hear the plain chambray club clicking their tan brogues in disgust as we speak – but what does? (Goodhood)

Hiroyuki Morita ‘Pata’ Chair

Selectism - pata-chair-01

Despite all our hipsterisms – we’re currently riding a fixed gear whilst using four square and tweeting about our last sandwich – we’ll always love something that has a proper function. Design Boom turns us onto this chair that can be folded back into a flat pack whenever needed. It’s only a prototype at this point of time, so you’ll have to wait  on any release details.

Take a leap to see the chair in its various forms.

6876 Griffiths Jacket

curated mag - 6876 Griffiths Jacket

First produced in 2000, 6876’s Griffiths Jacket is produced of lightweight English twill sateen and incorporates a mesh lining. The style, quite obviously, takes from the classic Harrington and this particular version keeps the proceedings free of any undue detailing. Pair with chinos, you might just look half respectable.

Selectism - rag-bone-autumn-2010-footwear-01

This has done the blog rounds already, but we felt the need to flag up these crepe soled shoes from Rag & Bone’s AW10 collection. Crepe soles on classic shoe styles is an emerging trend in menswear; by winter it’s sure to be as visible as the near ubiquitous red brick sole. There’s four styles in total, with penny loafers, boots, brogues and wallabee-esque boots all making an appearance.

Take a leap to get a look at them.

How Baseball Cards Became an American Obsession Book

Selectism - How Baseball Cards Became an American Obsession Book

Ah. The days. When I think back to where my obsessive nature, it would begin with Garbage Pail Kids cards as a youth. I did the baseball card thing for a minute but it’s clear many other take it more seriously than I did. A new book is out on the market, Mint Condition: How Baseball Cards Became an American Obsession How Baseball Cards Became an American Obsession Book, covers the United State’s desire to collect, trade, and sell the medium. Slate offers some interesting thoughts on it.

How come that Frank Thomas rookie card you stowed away in 1990 is now worth less than a Happy Meal? Chalk it up to the baseball card bubble of the late 1980s and early 1990s. In a new book, Mint Condition: How Baseball Cards Became an American Obsession How Baseball Cards Became an American Obsession Book, Dave Jamieson tells the story of how baseball cards evolved from a tobacco marketing gimmick in the 19th century into a massive, big-money industry of their own by the late 20th century. In this excerpt, Jamieson explains how baseball cards first became seen as promising investments, setting the stage for a decade of speculation and overproduction.

Selectism - Mountain Research Fishing Vests

I called out fishing and camping recently during a panel discussion and the people laughed. I did too. Well, Mountain Research, and just about all of Japan is on the outdoorsy tip harder than the deck shoe at the moment. Do we blame them? Not when you consider that a fishing vest still has room for fashionable innovation. Enjoy these vests. I do. (clstr)

Selectism - I Wonder: Preview & Promotion

01. LCD Soundystem returned @ Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn – pics & setlist

“There’s good news and bad news. The good news is we’re here. The bad news is I’m wasted.” James Murphy, who claimed to be swilling his “special drink” (champagne and whiskey) all night, kept trying to set the bar low for last night’s LCD Soundsystem show at Music Hall of Williamsburg, the first the band has played in three years… a fact that he kept hammering into the crowd. “This is the longest we haven’t played in the history of the band. It’s not really a ’show,’ it’s a live rehearsal.” (brooklynvegan)

02. Blur Release Record Store Day Single

“Blur recorded a brand new track a few weeks ago that is set to front a special Record Store Day 7″, The Sun reports and a Record Store Day representative confirms. The as-yet-untitled release is Blur’s first new single since 2003’s “Good Song”. (pitchf)

03. Godspeed You! Black Emperor For ATP

“An ATP spokesman announced earlier this morning: To conclude our yearlong celebrations of 10 Years of ATP, we are thrilled to be able to announce GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR as curators of our Weekend 1 Nightmare Before Christmas festival this December.” (quietus)

04. I Wonder: Preview & Promotion (above)

“It’s a gorgeous hardcover, with gold and silver foils on a satin cloth, with gilded page edges. It’s printed in 5 colours throughout (mostly CMYK + Gold) on a coated stock. At a smallish size (15.5cm x 24cm, or a little taller than 6×9), it is a book meant for holding and reading, curled up in your favourite chair.” (bantjes)
