Yves Saint Laurent Tweed Suit Jacket

This is more a ‘look, but don’t touch’ recommendation. While we feature plenty of expensive things on SL, this one is towards the top end of the scale. Basically, if you have to ask the cost, you can’t afford it. ‘Tis a very handsome jacket though. We’d recommend the ‘buy it, leave the tags on, wear it once and return it’ strategy. Not that we ever do that. (Matches)

Take a leap, see those detailed images.

Uniforms For The Dedicated Pleated Trousers

Selectism - uniforms-for-the-dedicated-trousers-01

Pleats are a thorny issue round these parts. Some people still think of them as dadwear whilst others (mainly us) are coming round to the idea. The argument against pleats is that they make you look, erm, shall we say a little more robust than usual. Although, like most slightly outdated menswear advice, this is based on the assumption that you’ve already got a bit of gumption and are looking to hide it. But if you have the right body shape you can easily pull these off – just show a little caution. (Fever)

01. A Pint With: Dan Carey, Brewmaster of New Glarus Brewing Company

“In 1993, Dan Carey left a job with Anheuser-Busch to start his own brewing company with his wife, Deb. Since then, Carey’s beers (including some unusual spontaneously-fermented fruit beers) have won countless awards and garnered attention from beer lovers around the globe. We’re so glad that Dan had a minute to chat with Serious Eats.” (seriouseats)

02. Thomas Köner “La Barca” 2xLP

“Very limited pressing of this very sublime ambient album from Thomas Köner. On La Barca, Köner conjures forth incredible atmospheres from field recordings and ultra-minimal drones; “subtle” does not even begin to describe the aural movements on display here – not recommended for listening while running the air conditioning or dishwasher. Currently no purchasing options that I can find in the U.S., but fans who don’t want to miss out are encouraged to order promptly from boomkat.com, as this is limited to a mere 500 copies.” (omgv)

03. Lydon “I’ll Miss McLaren”

“John Lydon, Malcolm McLaren’s old sparring partner and former charge as front man of the Sex Pistols, said he would miss the notorious manager, who died earlier today. Speaking on the sad news of McLaren’s passing Lydon (who signed the statement with his old moniker, Johnny Rotten) said: “For me Malc was always entertaining, and I hope you remember that. Above all else he was an entertainer and I will miss him, and so should you” (quietus)

Selectism - BBlessing Autumn/Winter 2010 Photographed by Sean Donnola

This is first time we have covered the Bblessing Autumn 2010 offering. Our earlier post were some street shots but they get serious with 27 year old photographer Sean Donnola for the official lookbook. “Highlights of the season include double-knit cashmere blend sweaters… grosgrained-trimmed blazers in a variety of fabrics” as well as the relaunch of their denim line.

Malcolm McLaren Dies at 64

Selectism - Malcolm McLaren Dies at 64

A very sad day indeed. From the NYT blog. “Malcolm McLaren, the impresario, promoter and self-promoter who once claimed to have invented punk rock, and who assembled and managed the youthful, unruly members of the Sex Pistols, the breakthrough British punk band, has died. He was 64…In the 1970s, Mr. McLaren returned to his native London from New York, where he had briefly managed the New York Dolls in the waning days of that band’s initial flush of fame. With his business partner and girlfriend at the time, Vivienne Westwood, they renamed their clothing shop Sex, and Mr. McLaren set about putting together his own rock act of untested British youth, which became the Sex Pistols.” (photo flickr)

Selectism - Burberry Tarnished Leather Carryall Bag

Burberry delivers volumes with their Spring/Summer 2010 men’s bags. Originally shown during Milan Fashion Week, the Burberry bags are now available for purchase. My favorite is the “tarnished leather” carryall bag which it’s wide mouth opening and spanning handles. Vintage matt brass finishes it off nicely.

selectism - The Kennedys | Portrait of a Family by Richard Avedon

Opening on April 17, 2010 and running through July 18, 2010, The Kennedys | Portrait of a Family presents a glimpse of the famous family through the lens of Richard Avedon.

About the exhibit -

An intimate, behind-the-scenes look at the legendary first family through the lens of acclaimed photographer Richard Avedon. This exhibition unveils a selection of portraits taken of president-elect John F. Kennedy and his family in January 1961, in Palm Beach, Fla., before the Kennedys took residence at the White House. Individual photographs and enlarged contact sheets of unedited negatives (printed and signed by Avedon) offer unique insight on Avedon’s photographic practice, aesthetic judgments and the ways in which these decisions contributed to the Kennedy mystique.

Visit the Peabody Essex Museum to learn more.

A selection of included photographs after the jump.
