Aether Apparel Spring/Summer 2010

selectism - Aether Apparel Spring/Summer 2010

Aether Apparel’s spring/summer 2010 collection moves away from the mountains and towards the beach. The same attention to fabric, fit, and feel remains, but the vibe becomes more living with the elements than protecting against them.

Included are a fine array of t-shirts – both crew and v-neck – of Supima cotton jersey. These shirts complement two swim shorts, one of microfiber and the other of cotton, which spawn from a traditional board short look. Fixed waist offerings come in the form of a cotton/linen cargo short and the “Caribou Stripe Short,” a nice pair of flat fronts. Aether also provides for cooler evenings with their Waffle Hoodie, new colors of our favorite the Space Hoodie, and a few nice new jacket selections. Polo shirts are also available for those that like to hit the links.

Full preview of Aether Apparel spring/summer 2010 after the jump.

Viberg Scout Boot

Selectism - viberg-scout-boots-01

To wrongly paraphrase Ludacris and countless other rappers, how high can you go? That seems to be the question with these and other thick soled workwear boots. We can see the practicality of it – we imagine they’ll do a better job in the winter than those thin soled excuses for boots – but there’s just something a little off in our eyes. We’re not dead set against them, they’re just a little too close to platform boots for our tastes. Although, having said that (© Curb) they would work a treat for men who need a boost sometimes. Take that leap, see those detailed shots.

Selectism - foodmarketo-apartamento

We’ve always admired Apartamento’s events and their next venture, in collaboration with DesignMarketo, looks set to continue that trend. This time they’re making a ‘half pop up store, half cooking workshop’ that’ll sell design objects and host daily workshops.

The project, which launches on April 13th, is to celebrate the arrival of Apartamento’s fifth issue. So if you’re in Milan and would like to attend a free cooking workshop, take note of the dates over at the FoodMarketo page – be sure to get there early. (FoodMarketo)

o1. Clam Chowder

“My favorite chapter in Moby-Dick is chapter fifteen, “Chowder.” Ishmael and Queequeg arrive at an inn called the “Try Pots”, which serves two things: fish chowder and clam chowder. Most of the novel is about whaling, obsession, class struggle, deep theological contemplations—things I don’t encounter much in my daily life. But when Melville writes about clam chowder, he’s writing about something I know.” (McSweeneys).

02. A Thinker Finds His Funk

“Rhythm ruled the music of Atoms for Peace, the band Thom Yorke led at Roseland on Monday night. It’s a side project with unspecified goals for Mr. Yorke, who also leads Radiohead, but one effect was immediate: he danced through nearly the whole set. Twitching, strutting, pivoting, hopping, jittering and gesticulating, he let the music propel him in ways that were anything but cerebral, even in songs for which he sat at the piano. Where Radiohead’s music is the triumph of thinking much too hard, Mr. Yorke on his own got sweaty and physical.” (NYT)

03. Daniel Alfredsson [played] his 1000th game [last night] (above)

“Where would the Senators be without Daniel Alfredsson? It’s hard to imagine such a world, and perhaps it’s better not to. After all, the man is the NHL’s longest-serving captain for a reason: he’s been the heart and soul of this franchise for as long as most of us can remember, and has come incredibly far since being picked 133rd overall in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.” (SilverSevensens).

04. Logorama’s Chaotic Critique of Corporate Rule

“When the French film Logorama won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, producer Nicolas Schmerkin remarked in his acceptance speech, “I’m the producer of the film, so I have to thank the 3,000 non-official sponsors that appear in the film. And I have to assure them that no logos were harmed in the making of the project.”1 It was a good joke, considering Schmerkin’s directors made use of fast food icon Ronald McDonald as the film’s antagonist, who sprays machine gun fire, curses, and takes hostages. The statement evoked laughs from the theater audience, made up of writers, producers, directors, actors, and dealmakers who themselves rely rather heavily on advertising, branding, and the commercial endeavors that Logorama apparently lampoons. Perhaps it was an uncomfortable laugh.” (Flowtv).

Selectism - Yuketen Athletic Sole Boat Shoes

The snobs discuss this “athletic inspired” Yuketen boat shoe. While it almost calls for a self imposed moratorium on the boat/decker, I do like the use of the crepe. “This traditionally styled Boat Shoe is a true American classic, with the addition of an authentic crepe ‘athletic’ sole. Made from the same premium materials used in all Yuketen products, this Boat Shoe does real justice to the incredible materials and craftsmanship used in its manufacture.” End has them.

Selectism - Pendleton For Urban Outfitters Blankets And Towels

R29 talks up the new Pendleton for Urban Outfitter Navajo inspired blankets. “Couldn’t stomach the $510 price-tag on the Pendleton Meets Opening Ceremony blankets? Urban Outfittershas got the remedy, with a line of Pendleton-printed home goods that’s priced at a much more palatable $48 for towels and $118 for blankets. Don’t think the decrease in price means they’re skimping you on quality; The Oregon-based wool label handles every aspect of the production, which means that your UO purchase has passed through the historic manufacturers’ discerning eyeballs.”

Despite Heritage Research’s relatively recent inception (the label was born in 2008) Russ Gater and co-founder Daniel Savory, have close to a combined 20 years experience as designers.
