Usinger’s Sausage

07 April 2010, 17.17 | Posted in Food & Beverages | No comments »

curated mag - Usinger's Sausage

Usinger’s proudly puts the USA in Sausage.

Since 1880, Usinger’s has made sausage with the same family honed recipes on Milwaukee’s Old World 3rd Street. The firm began as a simple operation – Fred Usinger and new wife Louise (having just bought a butcher shop) worked 16-18 hour days to serve the demand of local tavern owners. Like all good American dream tales, Usinger’s grew quickly and gained the favor of Milwaukee’s German aristocracy and found fans as far away as New York City.

The above, clearly stripped down story, amounts to the basic who and how of Usinger’s. The what might be a little more complicated – it all depends on taste. Usinger’s makes a dazzling array of sausage. Bratwurst (a personal favorite), liver sausage, summer sausage, all types of sausage. And all very good.

Fancy trying some? Visit the Usinger’s webshop.

(Probably the best heritage brand in Wisconsin).

Opening Ceremony Long Sleeve Polo Shirt

Selectism - opening-ceremony-long-sleeve-polo-01

Like most men, we’re a little in love with layering (and alliteration). So we tend to find it hard to give up the habit when spring rears it’s head, ending up in us overheating in the sun. A good halfway house for us would be this long sleeve polo by the folks at Opening Ceremony. It’s got the look of a sweater, the feel of a polo and it’s striped – three of our favourite things in clothing. There’s even some chambray in the mix for anyone who undergoes withdrawal symptoms when not wearing one. (End)

Take that leap, see those detailed images

Omar Kashoura Tear Drop Shorts

Selectism - omar-kashoura-tear-drop-shorts-01

It’s taken a little while for some SS10 collections to find their way into stores, but it looks like Omar Kashoura’s collection has landed at Oki-Ni. It’s still just a tad early to be buying shorts but, considering the fact that stores will be stuffed with winter parkas come July and August, it’s worth buying ahead. The topic of short shorts always come up during summer and our answer is as always – No. Don’t do it. We’d instead opt for a short this length, just above the knee. You can always roll these up if they’re not short enough – anything’s preferable to the creepy P.E teacher look. (Oki-Ni)

Real McCoy Rigger Work Boot

Selectism - real-mccoy-rigger-work-boot-01

Believe it or not, but there’s no better time for a boot than now (hear us out). The sun’s shining, but it’s still a little windy and rainfall could happen at any second – unless you’re in the apparently sun-drenched New York, yes we’re jealous – so a workboot is the easiest solution. It won’t look to cumbersome in the sun and you won’t have to worry about slipping over when a random downpour occurs. And, most importantly, they look good on your feet. (Superdenim)

Take a leap to see the soles.

01. Winners of the 2010 Redefining Dining Competition announced!

“World Kitchen’s first annual Redefining Dining competition asked entrants to develop innovative ways to both prepare and serve food. The top three winners, just announced, shown below, do so by encouraging playfulness to emerge from ritual, addressing the packaging, consumption and plating of a meal.” (core77)

02. Colorful Wall Art Creatures Made from Old Vinyl Records

“Scales. JAXPAC, the Jacksonville Public Art Commission, has put them to work on the streets of its hometown, in both the musical and the reptilian sense. The artists took old vinyl records and combined them with wheat-paste graffiti to create a new kind of urban fossil. While you can’t hear the music from the records, if you listen closely, you may be able to hear the call of creatures long extinct.” (inhabitant)

03. Francis Kurkdjian Incense Papers

“Having perfumed bubbles at Versailles, created olfactory installations, and collaborated with dancers, perfumer Francis Kurkdjian is no stranger to clever experimentations with scent. For a slightly less fantastical but equally delightful experience, he infuses delicate little paper strips with versions his signature fragrances—A Piece of Me (APOM), Lumière Noire and Aqua Univeralis—tailored for interiors. The Perfumed Incense Papers come in chic matchbox-style packaging (matches included) and either fold into zig-zags for burning or, slipped into drawers and luggage, keep clothing smelling fresh.” (coolhunting)

Selectism - Iron Heart 22oz Super Black Denim Rider's Jacket

I know I tend to gush over Japan’s Iron Heart brand but how can you not. When a company is ultra focused on making the most durable motorcycle gear in the world while remaining proper for those non moto riders. 22oz denim is a about as durable as it gets. Self Edge in the US has it.

Timex Oversize Camper Watch

Selectism - Timex Oversize Camper Watch

Twitter can be a good spot to discover goodies. GQ’s “Obsession of the Day” – the Timex Oversize Camper watch is clearly one of them. “We saw this Timex military-inspired watch a few weeks ago at Basel and it’s still the fixation of our attention. It has the kind of functionality and affordability you’ve come to expect from a Timex, and it’s got that rugged and classic appeal the military issue watches from decades ago held. Moreover though, it’s the kind of watch you look forward to wearing on the weekend…”

And how about the price? 50$US? I like that price.
