Pendleton for Opening Ceremony Autumn/Winter 2010 Preview

21 May 2010, 15.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Selectism - pendleton-opening-ceremony-fall-2010-preview-01

The OC Blog just posted up a behind the scenes look at the upcoming Pendleton for OC AW10 lookbook. You can’t see very much of the clothes (as is expected of a preview) but what you can see looks like the good ol’ slimmed down silhouettes we’ve become accustomed to. There’s also a sneak peek of the OC autumn/winter 2010 footwear collection, which you can see after the leap.

Our Legacy Olive Shorts

Selectism - our-legacy-olive-shorts

Remember when Our Legacy briefly flirted with those thigh-skimmingly high shorts? Some folks were down with it – we’ve never been fond of anything higher than ‘just above the knee’ – but apparently not enough as they’ve remade their shorts in slightly longer form this time. Olive is a fetching alternative from the khaki and navy pairs being offered everywhere and it goes without saying – although we’re gonna say it anyway – that these are well made for the price. This is not a suit

Selectism - this-is-not-suit-01

Here’s an interesting one. New menswear line A. Sauvage have undertaken a photographic project entitled ‘this is not a suit’. A venice-beach based portrait series, it focuses on folks with the sort of lived-in faces every man aims for. Or, as the press release states, it’s ‘a case study of the artist’s ongoing fascination with the internal and external influences that enable individualism’.  Be sure to check out their Tumblr.

Before you go, there’s some shots from the project after the leap.

Selectism - Big Bambú: Organized Chaos in the Making

Beau Colburn’s Thursday roundup…

01. You Look Nice Today: The Magic Number

“We went, with some friends, into the woods. A few days later we left the woods. Our memory of the time we spent in the woods is a bit fuzzy; fortunately, someone thought to make an audio recording of it.”
(ylnt)

02. Stanford University Prepares For ‘Bookless Library’

“Box by box, decades of past scholarship are being packed up and emptied from two old libraries, Physics and Engineering, to make way for the future: a smaller but more efficient and largely electronic library that can accommodate the vast, expanding and interrelated literature of Physics, Computer Science and Engineering.
‘The role of this new library is less to do with shelving and checking out books — and much more about research and discovery,’ said Andrew Herkovic, director of communications and development at Stanford Libraries.’”

03. An Open Letter to Our Industry

“It is your personal prerogative to hold a conference or publish a book or magazine featuring whomever you choose. It is your professional duty to reach outside your existing circle of friends and colleagues, outside of your snug familiar comfort zone to find new voices and new perspectives.

Are you doing this to shape the industry and the culture, or do you just want to have a beer with your most famous friends and feel validated because you got sponsors for it? If you are only surrounding yourself with people you already know, you are doing yourself a disservice. Reach out, and reach out before someone calls you out. You will win, personally and professionally, if you do.”

04. Big Bambú: Organized Chaos in the Making (above)

“It’s rooftop season again, in more ways than the casual impromptu bbq with drinks and friends. The must-experience art of the season is going on right now on the rooftop of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and it will be going, growing, morphing and inviting you to take part all the way until Halloween.

The project Big Bambú, by Mike + Doug Starn, is the whole ball of art-wax: It’s installation art, it’s performance art, it’s sculpture, and if you believe in their claim to have been afraid of heights before they conceived of it, it’s even art-therapy. ”

05. Girl Talk’s Feed The Animals Sample Visualize

“This page lets you play Feed The Animals by Girl Talk, an album made up entirely of samples from other music. To the right of the track list, there’s a list of which songs are being played, as they’re played, using the list compiled by Waxy.org. Not all samples are covered, but a lot are.”

“Urban Abstract is a first piece created in collaboration with Ramu and Kawakami. The artists have plans for new pieces and are currently looking for interesting projects to work on and to continue this Helsinki – Tokyo collaboration. The website urban-abstract.com works as a part of the piece and creates an extra dimension for the clips shown on TV.”

Selectism - Industry of All Nations Black Espadrilles

They’r 42 bucks. That’s not a bad price (unless you live in Los Angeles) for some simple kickers to beat, trash, walk, and rave in. They feature a jute braided sole and 3 eyelet lace up. They pretty much sell themselves. Consider then over a deck shoe this Summer. More importantly, beat the crap out of them. OAK has them.
