Carolyn Massey for Slazenger Cricket Jumper

Selectism - carolyn-massey-slazenger-cricket-jumper-01

We know we featured another cricket jumper only yesterday but here’s another one for you to drool over. We feel like we’re always bleating on about British designers – mostly because we are – but this is a well made, easy to wear piece from Massey’s recent collab with Slazenger. Perfect for those awkwardly weathered spring days, it’s a piece that should please everyone – even the price warriors. (ASOS)

Take that leap, get another look at this.

Jack Spade Briefcase

Selectism - jack-spade-briefcase-01

While it’s very trendy to brag about how well ‘curated’ you are these days, Superdenim probably have the best choice of brands around. It’s not overwhelmingly huge and you could easily wear several of the brands without looking like you just came from the coal mines.

The latest addition to their list is Jack Spade – we’re particularly fond of this casual briefcase. It’s not a world changing product but it’s smasual enough (yeah, we said smasual) for the office or a walk about town and would make a nice alternative for anyone not that into backpacks or totes. (Superdenim)

Detailed images after the leap.

Magculture.com Paper

Selectism - magculture-paper-01.jpg

Yet another of our favourite blogs, Magculture, has made a foray into print. Magculture paper is a greatest hits compilation of blog posts, compiling several posts that you may have missed. In the words of Magculture, ‘The great thing about blogging is the instantaneous nature of content publication, but the flipside is that the content disappears quickly too, becoming buried below the latest posts. This will help you dig out some of those posts.’

It’s available from Magculture and it costs 3.99 (Although you can probably get it cheaper from J.Crew).

Take a look at some spreads after the leap.

Selectism - Bird Washing Machine Removes Oil in 7 Minutes

Beau Colburn does the Thursday Roundup.

01. Price of Facebook Privacy? Start Clicking

“Pop quiz: Which is longer, the United States Constitution or Facebook’s Privacy Policy? If you guessed the latter, you’re right. Facebook’s Privacy Policy is 5,830 words long; the United States Constitution, without any of its amendments, is a concise 4,543 words.”

02. Bird Washing Machine Removes Oil in 7 Minutes (above)

“It’s no question that animals – particularly birds – are being severely impacted by the Deepwater oil leak. The oil has already reached shorelines, and marine birds are getting coated. Last week, David asked how a bird covered in oil gets cleaned. Turns out, it’s a painstaking and time consuming process that can seriously stress out birds. But what if we could just stick birds in a washing machine that cleans them in only seven minutes? A major oil company took the liberty of creating just such a machine.”

03. Jarvis Cocker curates National Trust Album

“Jarvis Cocker’s transformation from indie music’s enfant terrible to unlikely pin-up of the cream tea and country house set appeared complete yesterday, when it emerged that he had teamed up with the National Trust to curate an album of soothing sounds.”
(independent)

04. An Apple //e, an iPad, and Jed

“‘I just saw some photos of your office and couldn’t help but notice an Apple //e. I have an odd request. Back in 2005 I created a music video for the band Grandaddy by programming a text animation on an old Apple. So for my request: would you do me the honor of running the source code on your old Apple //e and sending a few pictures?’

Sounded like fun to us. Just one problem, though: we knew we had to load Stewart’s “cassette tape” source into the Apple //e’s audio input. But we didn’t exactly have a cassette deck lying around. What did we have? An iPad.” (panic)

Oki-ni gets inside Nigel Cabourn’s vintage archive, at his offices in Newcastle, for a look at the pieces that have inspired his collection. “For our seventh archive (this time with a slight twist), oki-ni travelled to Newcastle to meet designer Nigel Cabourn and photograph the impressive vintage archive that inspires his eponymous label…Housed in a workshop at the bottom of his garden, Cabourn’s exhaustive collection of vintage garments includes amazing protoypes of military clothing worn by pilots, tank drivers and marines…” View the Nigel Cabourn Achive at Oki-ni.

Selectism - Won Hundred "Missing Lines & Hard Shapes" Autumn/Winter 2010 Lookbook

The new Won Hundred Autumn/Winter 2010 lookbook arrived in our inbox this morning. Their inspiration is intriguing and the conceptual imagery is worth a view. Some notes on the line: “Inspired by the straight lines and hard shapes from the cubistic art, combined with the soft and natural influences from the collage art of the same era. Materials like wood, paper and all sorts of found objects are glued and taped together. While black, grey and white are key, this seasons colours range from spice brown to a dark duffel bag green accented a washed out aubergine and a muted jade green.”

Hammarhead Industries Woodsman 500

selectism - Hammerhead Industries Woodsman 500

Based in Philadelphia, PA, Hammarhead Industries is the baby of James Hammarhead. He’s turned his passion for 1950s motorcycles into a platform for his own creations. His bikes, like the above Woodsman 500, are lean and mean. They are minimalist rides inspired by the past and geared for modern urban life.

The Hammarhead site launched a few weeks back (and has been getting great press so far). All photography by my friend and neighbor Ryan Miller.

A closer look at the Woodsman 500, which is built off a Royal Enfield Electra X, after the jump.

Selectism - Rag & Bone Liberty Fedora Hat

Another straw hat. This time it’s a look at the Rag & Bone Spring 2010 Fedora. We covered the 2009 versions a while back. They’re made in the USA and feature a “contrasting brim” giving them a solid look which can be repped in just about anything – including your favorite beater. Made from 100% raffla. Rock on. Fwdfwd has them.
