Duffer of St. George Spring/Summer 2010

selectism - Duffer of St. George Spring/Summer 2010

The allure of the high street is back with Duffer of St. George’s spring/summer 2010 collection. We’ve discussed the fleece before and the unpretentious nature of the product continues to appeal. It’s about core classics – baseball jackets, polos, nylon pullovers, etc. – everyman wear for the pub.

Detractors will note that the collection is available at  J.D. Sports, but at the moment there’s something comforting about accessibility.

The look book has been shot by Neil Bedford, whose work regularly strikes a cord.

Full looks at the Duffer spring/summer 2010 garments after the jump.

Here comes again one of those items that we fall in love with instantly. Areaware presents a wooden flashlight. The usually cold object gets a remake and just like with everything that is made of wood, this flashlight will get nicer every year as it ages. (vendor)

Sergio Rossi Hiking Boot Autumn/Winter 2010

Sergio Rossi Hiking Boot Autumn/Winter 2010

Who would have thought that the heritage inspired fashion trend could come this far? Italian shoemaker Sergio Rossi will actually be introducing a hiking boot in his upcoming Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection. Leave the history/heritage discussion aside for a moment, because obviously the heritage of the Sergio Rossi brand has absolutely nothing to do with workwear. But if you want a high quality boot for the winter, you can definitely consider these. Also if you are looking for a hiking boot that is made for the street rather than the mountains, this is the boot for you. Premium leathers, good colors, nice details and subtle branding.

Liam Gillick for Clemens en August

Liam Gillick for Clemens en August

German travel designer brand Clemens en August has worked with designer Liam Gillick on the shoe collection. The brand is known for opening pop-up spaces in about 13 cities every year to showcase their collection, which is then later on sold exclusively online. The Liam Gillick collaboration marks their latest offering and the outcome is some interesting footwear. The lace-ups comes with an interesting dot pattern, which is actually not the same on the left and right shoe. The shoes are bespoke, which means that your foot is being measured at the pop-up events and then only being produced.

Take a closer look at the shoe after the jump.

Re-soled The Red Wing Way

Selectism - Re-soled The Red Wing Way

Selectism Columnist and one half of the Billykirk shop, Chris Bray, travelled to Minnesota to take in the Red Wing world.

“Dan Dahl, the Senior Director of  Red Wing Lifestyle, emailed us a while back to say that he liked what we were up to at Billykirk and if we would be be interested in a trade.  “Does a bear shit in the woods?” is what I was thinking,  so we soon worked out a nice trade.  In our emails I had mentioned that I had an old pair of Red Wing Pecos Boots that needed re-soling and was hoping to have them replaced with crepe soles like the ones on a pair of 875’s.  Dan said that wasn’t an issue.  Finally, I asked if it were possible to get a photo-montage of the boots’ transformation.  Done and done.   Needless to say, I am very pleased with how they turned out and they have been wearing in superbly.”

Selectism - Eight Summer Shoes For Every Guy

R29 rounds up a wide selection of Summer shoes for the boys to rock on the streets and shores. “We think the weather has finally changed, for realsies this time. The flowers are blooming, couples are displaying obnoxious PDA in the street and bare legs are just about everywhere. While gals are rockin’ sky-high wedges with their cut-offs, let’s not forget about how dudes can switch it now that the boots are finally stowed away. It’s time for some seersucker appropriate mocs, rooftop barbecue kicks, and the perfect boat shoes for our seaside jaunts, all in colors both crazy-bold and laid-back-neutral.”

Starck + Intersection Magazine Soapbox Car

In an interesting project French designer Philippe Starck got together with Intersection Magazine to build a soapbox car. The car comes without engine, without steering and without brakes and as you can imagine, looks beautiful. Thankfully they provide a video with the presentation of the car, so that one gets a better idea of how it all works.

In the upcoming issue of Intersection Magazine you will find an extensive interview with the designer, as well as lots more background information on the project.

Take a look at the video here below.

Now head on after the jump for some more looks at the soapbox.

Selectism - Topography of Terror finally opens

01. RIP Bob Mercer: A “NOW That’s What I Call Music” Megamix

“According to Billboard, Bob Mercer, the British music industry veteran responsible for the “NOW That’s What I Call Music” phenomenon (aka, the way my mom kept up with “the hits” for over a decade now), has died at the age of 65. It should be noted that beyond launching the NOW series, Mercer also signed artists at EMI including Queen, Kate Bush, Marc Bolan and Olivia Newton-John in the ’70s, got pissed when the label dropped the Sex Pistols, and briefly managed Paul McCartney.” (flavorw)

02. ESPN 2010 FIFA World Cup iPhone App

“I took a look at ESPN 2010 FIFA World Cup, a free app from the worldwide leader sports that provides plenty of info for the international soccer fan anxious for the World Cup to start. Since the global event doesn’t kick off until June 11, launching the app at this point brings up a large countdown timer at the top of the screen. The entire look of the app mirrors the bright color scheme adopted by the South African host nation and the tournament organizers.” (macworld)

03. Colorado’s State Capitol is the First and Only LEED Certified One in U.S.

“On Earth Day, Inhabitat took a tour exploring the bones of the Colorado State Capitol building in Denver. It is the first and only LEED certified capital building in the country, and the first ever to receive a LEED Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance certification or LEED EB O&M. Come with us as we take a look at the ‘power brokering’ that goes on behind the scenes…” (inhabitant)

04. Topography of Terror finally opens (above)

“Unlike the nearby Holocaust Memorial, which is dedicated to the Nazis’ victims, this modest metallic gray building (designed by architect Ursula Wilms and landscape architect Heinz Hallman) is designed to highlight the role of the perpetrators, those managers and bureaucrats who from their Berlin offices administered mass murder across Europe.” (archinect)
