United Arrows PAPER Summer 2010 Issue

Selectism - United Arrows PAPER Summer 2010 Issue

Ah yes. United Arrows JP joins the ranks of inhouse print (and we’re not talking about traidtional lookbooks). Their newly launched PAPER starts off Summer 2010 by covering their take on men’s and women’s fashon. Two different issues are presented seasonally – one for the girls, the other for the bros. Collectors of in-house print rags will need to work some magic (proxy) to dig these up.

Selectism - UNIS Spring/Summer 2010 Looks

Cqc reminds us to review the UNIS Spring/Summer 2010 collection. “Inspired by and designed for the contemporary downtown man, UNIS evokes classic American sportswear. Urbane while easy, elegant without affect, Lee’s understated designs don’t ask for attention, rather they suit the man. Produced and manufactured entirely in its home of New York City, UNIS is just the result of a real relationship between designer, craftsmen, and locale..”

still lifes front Roy Lichtenstein: Still Lifes

Gagosian Gallery opens Roy Lichtenstein: Still Lifes this weekend, the first ever exhibition dedicated to this particular segment of the artists oeuvre. Lichtenstein’s experiments with still life began in 1972 and continued for almost a decade. Many of the 50 works on display taking direct influence from print advertisements, creating confluence between the painters work in still life and more noted pop art production.

Roy Lichtenstein: Still Lifes runs from May 8 to July 30, 2010 at 555 W. 24th Street, New York, NY.

selectism - Snoot Spring/Summer 2010

Snoot, a new line of technical outerwear from Sweden, has just launched its English language website. Good timing, as the launch coincides with their Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Included are four jackets, a set of rugby shirts, and a layering sweatshirt.

Snoot prides itself on exploring the latest in functional fabrics. For this season the above City Coat, shown in aluminum, utilizes a Schoeller produced material originally devised for the Mercedes McLaren Formula 1 team – and containing actual aluminum.

The jacket also comes in a more friendly black. View that and other pieces from the Snoot Spring/Summer 2010 collection after the jump.

Snoot will launch in full this coming autumn. Until then, consider this an obtainable preview.

A Day in the Life of Robert Geller

Selectism - A Day in the Life of Robert Geller

Alwaysnever gets close and personal with designer Robert Geller by asking the man about his day to day in the midst of designing Spring 2011. Without giving away too much, here’s his thoughts on getting things done.

“Designing a collection part for me is kind of special because we usually design a collection in a very short time and it’s quite a big.  Once we get into it I usually wake up very early. I wake up at 5 o’clock and get to the office at 6.  And from 6 to 10 I have the office to myself, which is a very nice thinking time for me.  I can’t design when there’s a lot of people around, it’s real distracting.  What I’ve done for every season is pick a book on tape and I listen to that while I do rough sketches. It’s something that’s going on that I can look forward to [finishing the book]. It helps me get up in the morning. The two don’t necessarily have any correlation,  if I’m doing a collection on Vienna I’m not listening to Death in Venice.”

Some great photos from the interview with Robert Geller after the click.

Selectism - LA Times | Brooks Brothers and Social Primer tie one on in style

The LA Times of all places is talking about some curious work between Brooks Brothers and the website Social Primer. While it is not the first instance of a major brand working directly to get a stamp of approval from media or a blogger, it is interesting to see where this leads us in the future – from all ends. “The Social Primer for Brooks Brothers bow tie collection consists of 16 reversible styles designed by Ray, using fabric patterns plucked from the clothier’s archives, and made in the same Long Island City, N.Y., factory that makes the rest of the brand’s neck wear.”

Dior Homme Chukka Boot

Dior Homme Chukka Boot

As much as we love our Clarks Desert Boot, we also tend to appreciate a little slimmer silhouette for certain occasions. Dior Homme has released a beautiful Chukka Boot for Spring/Summer 2010. It comes in an ivory colorway and features a subtle zipper on the heel for more comfort. While we have seen a clear trend towards extremely thin leather soles in casual footwear in recent seasons, we appreciate that Dior went for a mid-size sole. It’s just more comfortable! The boot is now in stock at Barneys and will be a perfect companion for the season and pretty much every occasion.

More views of the boot follow after the jump.
