Bruce Weber for Dedon

Bruce Weber for Dedon

German outdoor furniture brand Dedon has been on quite the run these past months. After they have invaded pretty much every 5 Star Hotel in recent years, we definitely felt like it was time for a change in their direction and that is exactly what took place this past year. Just the other day we reported about their collaboration with ueber-designer Philippe Starck and their recent work with Italian brand FLOS on a lamp collection is certainly also note-worthy.

Their 2010 campaign was shot by photographer Bruce Weber. We really liked his work on the Moncler campaign last year and were looking forward to see what he had done with Dedon. The campaign is now out and we believe that overall it was a good direction. Dedon was previously always portrayed in a cold, untouchable way and for the first time they took a more personal route. We also love the mess that Bruce Weber celebrates in his pictures. If we had to point out something negative at all, we would actually have preferred if the whole campaign was not so “happy”, if you know what we mean.

Take a look for yourself after the jump.

Les Hommes Hood Jacket

Les Hommes Hood Jacket

As much as we like it simple and classic, we also appreciate smart and innovative construction in clothing. That is the case with this new hood jacket from the Les Hommes Spring/Summer 2010 Collection. We love the beige tone of it and the mix of blazer, hoodie and vest. We were first not sure about the silk hood, but once you see the back of the jacket it all makes sense again and that mixed with a classic 3-pocket front definitely makes it work for us. The jacket is now available from Restir.

More views of the Les Homme jacket follow after the jump.

Kitsuné Spring/Summer 2010 Espadrilles

Kitsuné Spring/Summer 2010 Espadrilles

We have always been big fans of Espadrilles. They are practical in the summer, look nice, go with everything and are usually also very cheap. In some cases we can even appreciate the current trend of upgraded Espadrilles from high end brand. If they are better than the original and much nicer looking we are also willing to pay a premium. Kitsuné from Paris offers exactly that without going totally crazy on the pricing and offers their own pair of Espadrilles for Spring/Summer 2010 in navy and cream for a fair 62 Euros. They are now availalbe at Tres Bien.

Further looks follow after the jump.

adidas Micropacer Brogue

adidas Micropacer Brogue

We do not report about sneakers too often on Selectism, also because we already do enough of that on Highsnobiety. Today we came across the adidas Micropacer Brogue and thought that we just had to show you this one. Some of you might remember the Micropacer, a running sneaker that actually impressed with its technology when coming out, having a little computer in the tongue. Since a while it is a retro sneaker and the new Brogue version is right down our alley. Premium leathers, wingtip accents and what we like best is actually not so obvious – the all leather outer sole.

More images of the adidas Micropacer Brogue follow after the jump.

Selectism | Around the Web

Beau Colburn works the roundup today…

1) Do You Recognize This Person? (above)

You’ve seen him before, but we’re not going to ruin the surprise.  Just watch.  Hint: He works for Shepard Fairey. (mediabistro)

2) Gardens That Grow on Walls

“But Michael Riley isn’t like most gardeners. Mr. Riley, a former commodities trader turned plant expert who went on to become assistant director of the Horticultural Society of New York, was eager to move beyond potted plants in a way that hadn’t yet occurred to many others. It took a number of expeditions, a lot of research and more than a decade and a half, but by 2003 he had figured out how to grow a wall of plants inside his Upper West Side apartment.” (nyt)

3) An Inconvienent Drop Shadow
“This change is the equivalent of having the music or TV volume at, say, 7, then turning it up to 11, having someone complain is too loud and turning it back down to 9, making it seem less loud, but still louder than before. A convoluted metaphor, but the new logo seems better because the old one was just so much worse, despite it being the exact same thing — structurally speaking, since the letterforms are exactly the same.” (brandnew)

4) Quotes from the “Angry Writer”
“Maybe the “angry writer” appeals to us because in an oblique way the idea reminds me of some of the literary greats–yes, Salinger, and also Hemingway and Vonnegut and Twain, among others–writers who generally didn’t give a damn about what people thought of them and weren’t preoccupied with their sales ranking in The New York Times Book Review.” (lit drift)

Selectism - N. Hoolywood Compile Line Suits

This post is for our readers who hate us for putting up garments from the Japanese market which are difficult to get your hands on. This is for the anti-proxy reader for whom the sport is too difficult to play. N. Hoolywood has made it’s way into Blackbird (again). It is now easier than ever for those in this hemisphere to get their hands on their wears. I’m profiling the suits for starters but spill into their page for more.

Erik Schedin Tote Bag

Selectism - Erik Schedin Tote Bag

Erik Schedin’s re-developed his tote for another run. These low run totes look like pigskin in the photo but we’re told they are very much boating fabric. ”The bags are made from boat cover fabric and has toned cotton handles that are dyed by hand to achieve the perfect tone. It has an off-white drawstring rope at the top that runs through stitched button holes, as well as a zipped inner pocket and inner seams that are covered with an off-white tape.”

Coach Men’s Shop Opens in NYC

Selectism - Coach Men's Shop Opens in NYC

R29 (via WWD) reports in on the newest man shop to hit NYC. I’ve always said NYC is a better place for the guys. “Sometimes it’s intimidating for guys to have to walk through racks of frilly lingerie, pastel-colored hand bags, or pushy salesman just to score that wallet they saw in last month’s GQ. Well, listen up dudes!  Coach understands your pain: They’re opening a men’s only store tomorrow on Bleecker Street, the same stretch that guy shops like Tommy, Ralph Lauren, and Marc Jacobs are on. While not large, the store actually makes up in style what it lacks in space, with neighborhood elements mixed in to a masculine atmosphere that screams Boy’s Club.” Check the shop at 370 Bleecker Street.

Imperial Motion Board Shorts

Selectism - Imperial Motion Board Shorts

My friend Ish and I took a poll during our Cinco de Mayo celebrations yesterday to ask women which they preferred on men: board shorts or above the knee. To be honest, I am unsure of what the poll results were due to my inebriated state. With that said, board shorts will be shown now from the Imperial Motion company. They’re lacing technique on their “Tight and Right” series will appeal to many. “IM has developed a technique of lacing which runs the drawstrings through the entire waste band, allowing the shorts to tighten to an exact fit with no additional fuss from Velcro or buttons.” I personally vote for non board shorts for day to day. Go to the beach for these…

Selectism - Mercedes-Benz for Eurocopter Helicopter

Damn recession is done it would seem. This Helicopter from Eurocopter for Mercedes-Benz just brought things back to their norm. “A special edition EC145 Mercedes-Benz Style helicopter designed by Mercedes and Eurocopter was just unveiled at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition 2010 in Geneva. The luxurious EC145 is equipped with comfortable seats made of exclusive materials coupled with sumptuous wood fittings for the floors and ceiling. The project, conceived by the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studio in Como, Italy, is the only helicopter in its class that can seat up to eight passengers.” (luxist)
