Martine Rose Pink Circles Shirt

27 May 2010, 13.30 | Posted in Fashion | 1 comment »

Selectism - martine-rose-pink-circles-shirt-01

Here’s one for those who aren’t afraid of a little colour (and that should be most of you, it’s 2010 for gawd’s sake). This Martine Rose shirt is another piece we like for it’s double duty qualities. Well, double duty might be an overstatement, but you can wear it as either  a shirt or an overshirt/light jacket – and in this harsh economic climate, you need some kind of nonsense excuse to explain your excess spending.  (Daniel Jenkins)

The game don’t change, take a leap to see the detailed images.

Archival Clothing Rucksack

Selectism - archival-clothing-rucksack-01

Here’s a piece that’s, to make an overstatement, been blazing the interwebs these past few days. Archival Clothing recently did a post pointing the problems with the Filson and Duluth Pack bags, promising to create an alternative that kept the good looks and updated the functionality. And, whaddya know – they’ve done just that. It’s a popular bag, so if you like the look of it, you better pull the trigger quickly. (Archival Clothing)

Detailed images after the leap. Read more

01. Experimental Rolling House Should Provide Endless Fun for Pranksters

“I am not at all certain what the benefits are of having a cylindrical house, but I suppose that’s why they call it “experimental.” The University of Karlsruhe’s Institute of Industrial Design and Construction Output collaborated with the same school’s Institute of Supporting Structure (clearly something has been lost in translation here) on the Roll It, a modular experimental housing prototype that can, yes, roll.” (Core 77).

02. Come As You Were

“It’s been a little over sixteen years that we’ve been living in a world without Cobain—sixteen years since we began wrestling with his endlessly complicating life and death. We’ve learned as much in his absence as we did in his life, which is to say not much at all. And while we’ve mostly given up on ever figuring him out, it’s impossible to forget the Fender Jag he used to rip the shit out of our senses or the hauntingly frail sound of him edging out “The Man Who Sold the World.” From photographs of Cobain flying mid-air on stage to the unlikely tributes that have sprung up since that day in 1994, the pieces in Seattle Art Museum’s ‘Kurt’ exhibition take a closer look at the ways our impressions of the man have changed over time and the moments we couldn’t shake from our memories even if we wanted to. They are at once loud and quiet, gorgeous and savage. In other words, all the things that he was in his brief 27 years.” (GQ).

03. U.S. sets 23-man World Cup roster

“The phones started ringing at 2 a.m., and players were told to come down to the third floor for a meeting. As Herculez Gomez pressed the elevator button on 17, his mind raced. Were his dreams about to be fulfilled — or crushed?” (ESPN).

04. Rian Hughes: City of London Logo Proposal (above).

“Designboom met UK-based graphic designer, illustrator, comic artist and the man behind device fonts Rian Hughes, while in Malaysia for Kuala Lumpur Design Week 2010, where he presented selected works from the course of his creative career as part of the typo-graphics conference. one of the projects he discussed was his logo proposal for the city of London.” (DB).

Crown Shaving Company Shaving and Grooming Products

Selectism - Crown Shaving Company Shaving and Grooming Products

There’s a new men’s shaving and grooming line out of Ottowa Toronto, Canada. The Crown Shaving Company work to make products that  ”are made for men-to make you look and feel like a man…” Well, the good thing is that most men who are willing to dip the budgets into good grooming products probably already feel like a man. It would be better to say that Crown Shaving just enhaces all of that. I tested their shaving creme this week and have to say that it does indeed do the trick. “Our rich lathers and lotions are carefully formulated with the finest natural ingredients to reintroduce the revitalizing luxuries of shaving, lost in recent decades to buzzing electric devices or chemical-laced shortcuts that promote expediency at the expense of a healthy, restorative experience.”

Try them out for yourselves. The bottles are pretty no frills and filled with solid goods on the inside.

Selectism - OeTZI3300 Moccasins for Summer 2010

“Oetzi” is one of those prehistoric gents that got on with his life during some of the toughest days this World has ever seen. With “Oetzi” in mind, OeTZI3000, the footwear brand has emerged with the idea of keeping the bare essentials in mind. Their moccasins for Summer 2010 look to follow that ethos. Their simple form and finish with a tech sole sure do make them look awfully comfortable. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to sample them myself soon.

Penfield Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

selectism - Penfield Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

A slight, ever so slight, shift for Penfield for Spring/Summer 2010. The brands rugged origins are tempered a touch, giving classic working fabrics a little refinement. The Penfield aesthetic doesn’t falter completely though, and expected looks like the Vasson jacket remain.

Hickory stripped shorts match chambray and oxford shirting and there’s a reasonable bag (above) in the mix. You might say Penfield straddles the line of two trends this season – and we might wonder how many of us will delicately be doing the same.

Check out the garms from Penfield Spring/Summer 2010 after the jump.
