Selectism - Bumpy Pitch 1950 England v. USA World Cup T-Shirt

It is almost time for another battle between the Brits and the Yanks. June 12th is a day that will leave one side of the “special relationship” happier than the other. England v. USA. Los Angeles’ Bumpy Pitch celebrates this event with a reminder of the great upset of 1950 when the USA upset the Brits. 60 years on and Joe Gaetjens’s goal is still with us through imagery. I love this shirt. June 12th could not come soon enough. Much love to both sides.

More looks at the Bumpy Pitch 1950 England v. USA World Cup T-Shirt and a few other shirts after the click.

  1. Colin Jose:

Nice shirt, big problem. This is not a picture of the winning goal. When the goal was scored Gaetjens was lying flat on the ground, having dived to deflect Walter Bahr’s shot. The picture on the shirt is of a centre that went over the bar and the ball is running down the twine at the back of the net. The pictuer of the goal has Bert Williams caught wrong footed by the deflection on his knees. Alf Ramsey is looking on in horror, Eddie Souza is off to the right.

  2. Haha”Brits”. I thought you guys were a bit more worldy than that. They beat ENGLAND, not Britain. Trust the Yanks to get that wrong. (Or should that be Southerners, given it’s an LA brand?)

  3. This is what happens when the only guy on staff with no English blood writes the post.

  4. Come on. GIve me more credit. That was clearly a digging joke. England England England. It’s like when people call Portuguese mainlanders Brasilians. I swear I’m worldy. Ask the Dutch.

  5. Thank you for that great note! Appreciated.
