selectism - Stewart Wurtz | Furniture Maker

Now based in Seattle, WA, Stewart Wurtz studied furniture making at Boston University. He received his BFA in ‘84, and over the last several decades has refined his modernist approach to woodworking. Like many contemporary wood craftsmen, Wurtz places high priority on sustainability, but he also separates himself with a clear and undying love of the potential of metal.

Given his Boston roots, Wurtz features in the current exhibition at MIT’ Museum’s Compton GallerySix Degrees of Separation… from New England. Running through the end of the month, the show is a remnant of last week’s Furniture Society Meeting in Boston (theme: “Fusions: Minds + Hands, shaping our Future) and includes a juried selection of artists living in or having studied in New England.

More of Wurtz designs – tables and chairs – after the jump.
