Selectism - Pantofola d'Oro for 45rpm Sneakers

Japan’s 45rpm teams with Italian brand Pantofola d’Oro on a collection for sneakers for the Autumn/Winter 2010 market. We assume it to use 45’s own cowhide denim again the classic tennis trainer shape. Leather in suede wraps the toe cap to give it a complete feel. (unotre)

Selectism - Missoni for San Pellegrino Limited Edition Bottles

Our brothers HS give coverage to this interesting by Missoni on some San Pellegrino water bottles. “By now a fashion brand getting together with a water brand is not entirely new anymore. We have seen Evian work with many designers over the years. Now Italian brand San Pellegrino is also getting into the game and presents a collaboration with Italian fashion house Missoni. The lables feature the Missoni branding and the bottle also comes in a special sleeve, designed by the brand.”

Stewart Wurtz | Furniture Maker

selectism - Stewart Wurtz | Furniture Maker

Now based in Seattle, WA, Stewart Wurtz studied furniture making at Boston University. He received his BFA in ‘84, and over the last several decades has refined his modernist approach to woodworking. Like many contemporary wood craftsmen, Wurtz places high priority on sustainability, but he also separates himself with a clear and undying love of the potential of metal.

Given his Boston roots, Wurtz features in the current exhibition at MIT’ Museum’s Compton GallerySix Degrees of Separation… from New England. Running through the end of the month, the show is a remnant of last week’s Furniture Society Meeting in Boston (theme: “Fusions: Minds + Hands, shaping our Future) and includes a juried selection of artists living in or having studied in New England.

More of Wurtz designs – tables and chairs – after the jump.

Mark McNairy Green Suede Longwings

And the list of blogger-ternt-retailers keep growing. Former guest blogger Start With Typewriters teamed up with the folks behind Sartorially Inclined and Getting Beat Like You Stole Something to create a new shop entitled Run Of The Mill. They’ve got some exclusive collabo’s in the pipeline, including these green suede longings created by Mark McNairy. We’re not usually that into longings but we’re big fans of these – the crepe sole is a nice touch, as are those laces. There’s no shortage of McNairy collabs out there, but this is definitely one of our favourites. (Run of The Mill)

Christie’s Auction | Fine Printed Books and Manuscripts Including Americana

selectism - Christie's Auction | Fine Printed Books and Manuscripts Including Americana

Bibliophiles will swoon at many of the offering at the block at Christie’s tomorrow. The “Fine Printed Books and Manuscripts Including Americana” sale includes signed letters from Presidents – Jefferson and Lincoln – along with some superb artifacts of New York history. Shown above, Lot 24, an original post-top style street sign of the late 19th-century (Wall and Broad Streets), is a real winner. It’s also tipped to go for a pretty penny – something to the tune of $70,000.

From my perspective, the true gem of the auction is William Faulkner’s ca. 1918 Canadian Royal Air Force Uniform (lot 104). The garments come with a photograph of the author wearing the uniform. This complements a number of Faulkner books and manuscripts.

Check out the uniform after the jump.

Heritage Research Summer Longline Parka

Selectism - heritage-research-summer-parka-01

We’ve been a little addicted to summer jackets on SL lately – don’t blame us, blame this poor excuse for summer we’re having in the UK – and here’s another one. This one’s from Heritage Research and it’s yet another sale pick at £149. It’s the sort of coat we’d carry in our bag on those annoyingly muggy rainy days. (End)

Take a leap to see them extra shots.

Dazed Digital | Larry David Interview

Selectism - larry-david-curb

This is a little outside our remit, but so what? Longtime (and sharp) readers will know that we’re quite the fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm, so anytime a fashion magazine interviews Larry David we have to feature it. Dazed caught up with the Seinfield and Curb Your Enthusiasm creator recently and quizzed him about how close he is to his Curb character, what he watched and the show’s title.

The title is very un-American – curbing your enthusiasm.

Yes (laughs). I mean, who likes enthusiasm? It’s quite sickening isn’t it – to see enthusiastic people when you’re miserable. Nobody wants that. Nobody wants to ask how’s everything and hear; ‘fabulous! Things are fantastic! I feel great!’ No. You want to hear – ‘ehhhh, you know.’

Sale season has started and we’re strictly about sale picks now in our daily choices. We wrote that hefty feature about ARN Merc the other week and if you read that (grab a coffee first, it’s a long one) you’ll see why paying £102 for one of their shirts is such a bargain. (Oki-Ni)

Selectism - Filson Tab Suspenders

For the gentleman who can properly work suspenders (I happen to witness one in NYC yesterday myself doing it proper with short pants) may we suggest these tabbed suspenders from Filson available at Blackbird. ”100% cotton colorfast 7 oz. elastic suspenders with 1.5″ wide adjustable straps, vegetable tanned genuine bridle leather crosspiece embossed with “C.C. Filson Co, Seattle, Since 1897″, and bridle leather button tabs (four tabs in front featuring brass rivets, two plain tabs in back). Made in the U.S.A.”
