rapha bowery store invite opening selectism 0 Rapha Cycle Club comes to NYC July 1st

After seeing what they did during the Handbuilt Show and the London Cycle Club, we had feelings Rapha way also moving into NYC. This delivery truck invite, which arrived at our doorstep, confirms this. July 1st looks to be the launch of the Bowery edition Rapha Cycle Club. 352 Bowery to be exact. With Cadence closing it’s doors, it will be nice to see what Rapha can bring to the NYC cycling scene.

Selectism - Tobias Wistisen Skull Bead Bracelet

Here’s a great skull bracelet from Tobias Wistisen. It is made from 925 silver, bronze & copper on cotton cord and features silver fastening. It is handmade of course and will complement your watch free wrist. In proper circumstances, it would work better than a timepiece. Goodhood has them.

Hathorn for SHIPS Horween Leather Boots

hathorn ships horween leather boots selectism 0 Hathorn for SHIPS Horween Leather Boots

SHIPS Japan as usual picks the proper partners for the co-brands. The horween leather boots above are worked with Hathorn Boots, which look to be part of the White’s family – a major favorite for our New England staff. The brown or black boots are built using leather from that famous Chicago tannery. The mid boot looks damn rugged when paired with the thick sole. (zozo)

Rogan Timeless Watch

Selectism - Rogan Timeless Watch

Cool Hunting points us at the newest “timepiece” creation from the Rogan house. “Rogan recently released their newest bit of design re-invention with the Timeless Watch. Made in NYC, the wrist candy repurposes old watch pieces, making each one both unique and a chic example of upcycling. But the best part of this accessory, its “timeless” empty face, not only neatly dismisses the modern anxieties of analogue-vs.-digital and how to convey the appropriate importance without looking too flashy, but in the process also cleverly comments on the whole convention of keeping time at all.”

Stubbs & Wootton Summer 2010 Footwear

selectism - Stubbs & Wootton Summer 2010 Footwear

Stubbs & Wootton slippers certainly aren’t for everyone. But, they have a playful nature that we can’t help but appreciate. This season they’ve teamed with star designer Michael Bastian, who collaborated with S&W’s Percy Steinhart on the “MB Seagull UK” (above). Their description reads, “the Seagull is our quintessential addition to your wardrobe for spending the summer in the Hamptons.” That pretty much sums up the Stubbs & Wootten aesthetic.

This extends to a few pairs of bold Espadrilles. Called the “Gatsby” S&W’s version comes in a brown camo and more subdued marine-blue linen.

Again, not for everyone, but they’ve a certain W.A.S.P. style worth looking at.

Norsea Industries Short Sleeved Sweat

Selectism - norsea-industries-short-sleeved-sweat

It’s officially sale season around most parts and that means one thing – bargains. This short sleeved striped sweat works well on those days when it’s neither blindingly hot or freezing cold (i.e 90% of the British summer). You could even layer it with a long sleeved tee if you wanted to be daring. And the best thing? It’s now £48 on sale, which is well within ‘take a risk’ territory. (Kiosk 78)

Dennis Hopper ‘Photographs 1961-1967′

Selectism - hopper-photographs-book-01

We hate to join in the vulture-esque side of the media whenever someone passes away, but Dennis Hopper’s Taschen book looks like it’ll be a worthwhile purchase. The title’s rather self-explanatory, but the vault of photographs captures everything from the making of Easy Rider to the the rallies of Martin Luther King. As these have been released as limited edition numbered copies, the price is a pretty penny (£650, to be exact). Those who like to pay rent may want to hold out for it being put back into print at some point. (Taschen)

Hamilton 1883 Blue Chambray Short-Sleeve Pullover Shirt

selectism - Hamilton 1883 Blue Chambray Short-Sleeve Pullover Shirt

Yes, we’ve still got a soft spot for chambray. And, yes, we’ve still got a bit of a soft spot for made in the USA goods (and Italian milled fabrics). Houston, TX based Hamilton’s story has been told here before, but we’ve rarely shared a single item. Their blue chambray short-sleeve pullover, from the Hamilton 1883 line, is a winner. The duel breast pockets are the real sell for us.

Preciosa Tortoiseshell Glasses

Selectism - preciosa-tortoiseshell-glasses-01

While there’s been a bit of fuss over fashion’s misuse of the word ‘nude’, that’s not the only word that’s been stretched to its logical limits. Take ‘private sale’, for instance. These Preciosa tortoiseshell glasses are from Farfetch’s not-really-private sale and they’ve had a small amount knocked off the price (£151 from £178). It might be worth waiting before you get these, especially considering that you’ll have to put your own lenses in. (Farfetch)
