First Look | Denim Demon Spring/Summer 2011

selectism - First Look | Denim Demon Spring/Summer 2011

Denim Demon, our favorite Swedish denim label, has grown steadily since 2007. Then they made just 286 pairs of jeans. For 2011, the line sees continued growth and expansion not just in trousers, but in fleece and shirting as well. Emphasis on Sami workwear remains, and the Kolt isn’t going anywhere. The offerings retain the honesty that makes Denim Demon fun all the while pushing further with the general idea – with 15 denim and chino options included (the chinos use Cone Mills brushed cotton). Washes, as you’ll remember, are based on a “6-month wear out” project, providing a very personal touch.

Check out more sneak peaks at Denim Demon’s Spring/Summer 2011 line after the jump.

Selectism - want-les-essentiels-spring-2011-01

Kicking off our Capsule recap today is Want Les Essentiels, who’ve added a few new pieces for the new gadget in your life. While it’s clear we’ll be drowning in iPad cases come next spring, Want Les’s version is one of the more desirable cases out there. Elsewhere there’s canvas shoppers in various colours, including a handsome (if a little loud) green colourway. (Photography: Munos)

Capsule Spring/Summer 2011 | Oliver Spencer

Selectism - oliver-spencer-spring-2011-chukka-boots-01

We showed off a bit of Oliver Spencer’s collection earlier, but here’s a look at some other highlights from their collection. Their footwear (their own footwear, not their collabs) have always been a highlight and that looks set to continue with these chukka boots. There’s also a burgundy colourway which looks tailor made for the sneakerhead who’s not quite ready to give up the habit. (Photography: Munos)

After the leap there’s another colourway of the chukka and a couple of coats that caught our eye.

Capsule Spring/Summer 2011| Norsea Industries

Selectism - norsea-industries-spring-2011-01

We hate using the word ’strong’ in relation to clothing – it’s one step removed from saying ‘that colour really popped’ – but that’s the only way  we can describe Norsea’s SS11 collection. It’s a little difficult to pick a favourite from this, but we did like the bags and the short sleeved sweatshirt. (Photography: Munos)

Veja Indigenos Low Rock Peanut

Selectism - veja-indigenos-low-peanut-shoe-01

While we know all about Veja’s very worthy cause, we’d never been fans of the actual products (call us fickle, but that’s the main reason why we buy our clothes). So it’s with a little shock that we found this pair of Veja’s from French Trotters. On a side note, we set foot inside the physical French Trotters store and we have to say that it’s an extremely handsome store – and in terms of brands, it’s a blogger’s wet dream. (French Trotters)

01. Vybz Kartel puts Clarks footprint on Jamaica

“Clarks shoes are back in fashion, thanks to dancehall artist Vybz Kartel. Jesse Serwer charts a 30-year love affair between Jamaican rudeboys and Britain’s premium sensible footwear” (Guardian)

02. Kanye West recruits Madlib for new album

“Kanye West has reportedly hired plenty of help for his untitled follow-up to 808s & Heartbreak. Everyone from Q-Tip to DJ Premier to Pete Rock to the RZA has been rumored to be working with the Chicago-native, and now another beatmaker has come out of the woodwork to reveal his involvement in ’Ye’s highly anticipated return to rap.” (XXL)

03. Strikeforce postmortem: The fall of Fedor

“Emelianenko, 33 and with a 32-1 record heading into Saturday’s fight with Fabricio Werdum, has spent the past three years as one of the sport’s best fighters and its single most divisive personality.” (ESPN)

04. TSY Style Hall of Fame | Tom Wolfe, The original thin, white duke (Pictured)

“Recently, in the wake of the recession, Wall Street greed, and the wreckage of Lehman Brother, Merrill Lynch, Bear Sterns et al, the term “Master of The Universe” keeps getting thrown around to describe these fallen titans of Lower Manhattan.  Whenever I hear this term I always think of the man who penned it, my nominee for the TSY Style Hall of Fame, Tom Wolfe.” (The Selvedge Yard)

Orthodox Autumn 2010 Looks

Selectism - Orthodox Autumn 2010 Looks

Stepping back from Spring 2011 for a few moments. We highlight some of the street ready looks from the Orthodox line. “With careful attention to detail and fabrics, the latest collection can best be described as disheveled yet refined where traditions are respected but rules relaxed. Highlights include, but are not limited to, outerwear featuring herringbone corduroy fabrics from Milan, leather jackets in washed lamb and goat skin in deep, rich midnight blues, olives, and reddish browns. Cotton and wool blended sweaters with signature Orthodox raw edge finishings and marbled yarns to provide more depth (crews with roll up sleeves, v-necks, and henleys) and the use of leather mixed with wool to create a version of the classic letterman jacket. Other jacket designs include a 90s-inspired black twill bomber with a satin finish and a very special Japanese polyurethane quilted nylon design with intricate patterns”

Thierry Lasry for Acne Spring 2011 Sunglasses

Selectism - Thierry Lasry for Acne Spring 2011 Sunglasses

Our brothers at HS give some love to the new ACNE sunglass looks for Spring 2011. “Last night in Paris, Scandinavian label Acne presented their Spring 11 menswear collection. Amongst a number of impressive garments was a collaboration with French sunglass designer Thierry Lasry. “Sunglasses were always the most important disco accessory,” creative director Jonny Johansson writes in the show’s notes. With bold, over-sized shapes, strong colors and reflective lenses, you’re sure to stand out wearing these – and we gather that’s exactly the point.”

Herbert Schier Velskoen Desert Boots

Selectism - Herbert Schier Velskoen Desert Boots

Now, I am not one to jump off my favorites to a another competing brand, but these Herbert Schier takes on the desert boot are just on point. “Velskoen, pronounced “fell-skoon” and known colloquially as “vellies,” are the ancestor of the modern-day desert boot. They were first made in the 1600s by members of the Dutch East India Co., inspired by the footwear of the Khoisan tribe. These days in South Africa and Namibia, hard-working vellies are worn by all types, from laborers to bush rangers to university students.” Hickoree’s has them. (secretforts)
