We first covered the Katin for Apolis Activism shorts in May.

“Apolis continues their collaboration with Kanvas by Katin, the fifty year old boat cover turned board short makers in Surfside, CA. The Chambray swim trunk made by Katin in Southern California. And as the Apolis guys aptly demonstrate, they’re shred-proof. ” (secretforts)

Selectism - apc-autumn-2010-01

Here’s a first look (as the headline suggests) at APC’s AW10 collection. While there’s plenty for those who like their menswear a little stuffy, there’s plenty for slightly more fashion forward folks as well – we’re looking at you cape wearers. There’s also the return of the jumpsuit, the piece that eternally remains on the ‘ermm, I almost like it’ list of clothing,

Take a look at more looks after the leap.

Camo ‘Baby Cristall’ Polo

Selectism - camo-polo-shirt-01

Don’t let the name put you off – as far as we know, Diddy had nothing to do with the making of this piece. Without sounding like a nostalgic granddad, we’ve been fans of Camo ever since we first saw them back in B&B last January. Pieces like this Polo shirt are great examples of why they’re stocked at several top stores around the world. The small collar might be a little much for those addicted to classics being replicated down to the last detail, but we’re always fans of a little updating. (C-Store)

Raf Simons Patterned Oxfords

Selectism - raf-simons-oxford-shoe-01

We’re no fans of the word ‘directional’ – it’s almost as meaningless as the word ‘angular’ is in music – but that’s a word you’re bound to hear in description of these oxfords. These aren’t one of the traditional footwear lovers – or, at £540, those without sizeable bank accounts – but these are a handsome pair of shoes nonetheless. (The Corner)

“ATP NY, happening over Labor Day weekend (Sept 3-5), continues to expand its lineup. To complete the line-up for [Saturday, Sept. 4, the fest's second day] our new additions are headed up by HALLOGALLO, a very special new project headed by Michael Rother and featuring Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), Aaron Mullan (Tall Firs) and Ben Curtis (Secret Machines, School of Seven Bells, and whose brother is now a touring member of Interpol). Hallogallo will perform the music of Rother’s 1970s Krautrock legends Neu! – their recent debut show in Barcelona was rapturously received. Also confirmed are cult heros SHELLAC who appear as ATP’s House Band, FURSAXA, SIAN ALICE GROUP and TEXT OF LIGHT (featuring Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo). 03. 37 Or So Ingredients

“Breaking down the deleteriously toothsome Twinkie, photographer Dwight Eschliman documents the Hostess confection by exposing all of its ingredients in a simple format. From mundane sugar to the alien Red 40 (above), the petri-dish-style portraits offer a concerning view of that old adage, ‘you are what you eat.’” … (coolhunting)

04. Diem Chau + W+K = Nike Crayons [World Cup 2010] (above)

“Unbelievably awesome. When my favorite crayon carver, Diem Chau, emailed me with pics last night of the latest project with W+K for Nike… for World Cup… the press kit for Write the Future campaign…. i was instantly amazed and jealous of all the lucky folks that got one. Such a beautiful piece of art. Incredibly packaged. Awesome idea. All the soccer stars are personified in crayon carvings!” (notcot)

Video | Dogtooth – Official Exclusive Trailer HD

09 June 2010, 23.49 | Posted in Art | 1 comment »
YouTube Preview Image

“A hyper-stylized mixture of physical violence and verbal comedy, Dogtooth is a darkly funny look at three teenagers confined to their parents’ isolated country estate and kept under strict rule and regimen — an inscrutable scenario that suggests a warped experiment in social conditioning and control. Terrorized into submission by their father, the children spend their days devising their own games and learning an invented vocabulary (a salt shaker is a “telephone,” an armchair is “the sea”) — until a trusted outsider, brought in to satisfy the son’s libidinal urges, plans the seeds of rebellion by trading VHS tapes for sexual favors.” Coming to the USA June 25th.

The Project X Rolex Explorer II Orange Hand Watch

project x rolex selectism The Project X Rolex Explorer II Orange Hand Watch

Hodinkee profiles another new startup in the custom Rolex game, and damn if this one is not hot! “Until today, with the release of Project X Designs new limited edition series. Based on the current Rolex Explorer II, which our most prodigal friends proclaimed to be the only modern Rolex worth buying, this limited run of 24 watches is an absolute killer… The Explorer II has been coated in DLC to give in the “blackout” look.  Then, Project X has filled the 24-hour scale on the bezel with bright orange paint.  Finally, and clearly most importantly, the red GMT hand has been replaced with an orange one.”

Within the next week or so, the complete data of the shortlisted winners, including images, will be revealed. stay tuned!” Above is one of the shortlisted entries from Sergio Studer.

Selectism - Dunhill "Chassis Series" North South Bag

We covered the Duhill “Chassis Series” not too long ago but with Esquire UK picking out their “North South Bag” as iPad friendly, we decided it was worth a revisit. “Made from calf leather coated with a unique carbon-fibre weave, its lightweight nature and resistance to water, knocks and scratches makes it the ideal workaday bag, rain or shine. Beneath the magnetically fastened flap you can expect to find two mobile phone pockets, a loop for your house-keys and a further, zippable compartment for your wallet, all lined in a soft grey microfibre. On the back, meanwhile, is a concealed sleeve to keep your travel tickets and office pass close to hand. (Conveniently, its dimensions are perfectly suited for transporting an iPad.)”

More looks at the Dunhill “Chassis Series” North South Bag after the click.
