Fjallraven Greenland Jacket

08 June 2010, 13.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Selectism - fjallraven-greenland-jacket-01

While we’d like to be recommending shorts and short sleeve shirts, the rain’s currently holding us hostage where we are. The only cure – and yes, it is a cure – is a lightweight hooded jacket, like this Fjallraven one. We should really have a laundry list of requirements, but we just like it because it’s handsome, lightweight and has a hood. And it’s on sale, if that’s your thing. (End)

Take a leap to see, as they say in TV land, extreme close up shots of this jacket.

Selectism - garbstore-autumn-2010-01

Given the speed of the net, you’ve probably seen this by now – but we’re still gonna post it up anyhoo. Garbstore have been slowly releasing images of the AW10 collection via their tumblr for a while and now they’ve compiled it into a lookbook. Standout pieces include their upcoming collab with Penfield (that toggled down vest has our names on it) and their parkas, which are as desirable as ever.

Take a leap to see more of the collection.

01. The Luminaries of Welsh Boxing History: Part Two

“This summer the WBC will hold its “Night of Champions 2010” event in Cardiff, Wales. The selection of the festival’s host country, as is well known, is due to Wales’s long and rich boxing history. In this article – subsequent to “The Luminaries of Welsh Boxing History: Part One” — Eastsideboxing continues its study of Wales’s boxing greats, focusing on the careers of Freddie Welsh, Dai Dower, Eddie Thomas, and Joe Erskine.” (Eastside Boxing).

02. Louise Bourgeois at the Biennale of Sydney 2010 (Above)

“Louise Bourgeois was born in Paris in 1911 and moved to New York in 1938,
where she continued to live and work, until her death in 2010. For over 60 years, Bourgeois worked across disciplines, producing sculptures, drawings, paintings and prints dealing with personal memory, emotion and the body. her work is currently on show at the 17th Biennale of Sydney.” (DesignBoom).

03. Grilled Pork Tenderloin with Herbed Cornmeal Crust

“This pork tenderloin is so easy on the grill — it’s moist and the garlic flavor permeates the whole cut of meat. Plus it takes so little time; try it with a salad and a good loaf of bread and you’ll have dinner in under an hour.” (Saveur).

04. Beth Ann Fennelly’s Ode to Ten Sexy Books

“The ten steamiest moments in Southern literature were harder to find than I’d imagined, leading me to realize that Southern sex tends toward the obscene or disturbing (removing—then stealing—a woman’s prosthetic leg in a hay loft? Making whoopee with a watermelon?), but here are some contenders.” (Oxford American).

Selectism - Musto Evolution Endurance Sailing Shorts

England’s Musto is probably best known as the first company to develop a three layer clothing system for sailors back at the start of the 70’s. The company founded in 1965 by a former Olympic sailor continues to push goods to the sailing marker but also to the world of shooting and equestrian. We’re highlighting their new Evolution Endurance sailing shorts which offer “quick drying, high wicking fabric with in built stretch.” If you plan on doing more than laying on festival grass and sandy beaches, consider these shorts from Musto.

Native “The Jefferson” Slip-on Shoes

Selectism - Native "The Jefferson" Slip-on Shoes

I’ll be honest. Up to this point there have not been many colors in the Native collection that appealed to me. Have we also shied away from EVA based shoes? I think we have but things can change of course. I guess time and the market do help push things such as their “The Jefferson” model to be more friendly to my feet. With their Autumn 2010 collection, we’re seeing a new range of colors that work – as does their sub 45$US price point. Wear and use as necessary. Just be sure to choose a good color. My favorites are below.
