Selectism Feature | On the Road

Take a virtual journey with us to San Antonio and check out On the Road, an exhibition investigating the mystique of the American road trip now on view at Artpace.

We spoke with Jens Hoffmann, curator of the exhibition, and Michael Drutt, Director of Artpace. Their words complement an exceptional selection of art works drawn from the show.

All this happens here.

First Look | APC Autumn/Winter 2010 Satchels

Selectism - apc-autumn-2010-messenger-bags

Here’s a first look at APC’s satchels for the upcoming season. Now that most men have either a tote, shopper, backpack and weekender in their arsenal (or in our case, all of the above) we could do with a satchel to add to the roster. We’re big fans of the maroon colourway but we won’t begrudge you if you prefer the more serious brown.

Lanvin Denim Shirt

Selectism - lanvin-denim-shirt-01

We’re all about (slightly) more affordable pieces of Lanvin, whether it be their footwear or pieces like this denim shirt. As far as denim shirts go this isn’t going to change the world – unlike all the other denim shirts doing the rounds – but it’s pretty sharp. Not to mention how ‘Youth in Revolt’ it looks when teamed with and white trousers. (Luisaviaroma)

JGB wallflower front Jenna Goldberg: Wallflower at Gallery NAGA

Furniture fans will want to take note of events in Boston later this month, the city playing host to the annual Furniture Society Conference. A few local galleries have exhibitions that dovetail nicely with the meeting, including Jenna Goldberg’s exhibition at Gallery NAGA.

A graduate of RISD, with an MFA in furniture design, and a current resident of Fall River, MA, Jenna Goldberg is one of America’s most admired third generation studio craft furniture makers. 20 pieces make up her solo show, Wallflower, on view through July 16, 2010 at Gallery NAGA in Boston. Goldberg’s furniture is utilitarian and accented by glorious floral decoration.

The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue.

Gallery NAGA, 67 Newbury St., Boston, MA.

Blaak Homme Donkey Jacket

Selectism - blaak-homme-navy-donkey-jacket-01

Can you think of a better time than now to get a heavy navy jacket? No? thought so.  In all seriousity – yes, we said seriousity – out of season pieces are always better to buy now due to cheaper prices and the like, but we wouldn’t blame anyone if they liked their summer purchases a little more, ermm, summery. Proper Magazine Issue 9

Selectism - proper-magazine

Given the sheer amount of news, info and just plain stuff around the web sometimes we forget to mention things we like. Proper magazine is one such thing that got lost in the internet cracks. We’ve not read issue 9 yet, but if it’s anything as good as issue 8 it’s definitely worth purchasing.

Proper magazine does cover that section of menswear that’s hawt right now, but it’s avoided po-faced commentary, injecting humour and a sense of fun into their writing. Issue 9 has interviews and features on Norse Projects, Arc’teryx Veilance and Superdenim amongst others. Go get it if you like a good read. (Proper Magazine)

Selectism - Rapha Tour Of Japan

For those spending this lazy Saturday on the Web (as I am for a moment), may we recommend you fire up your iPad and enjoy these views from the Rapha Condor team ride through Japan. “May 2010, Japan. The Rapha Condor Sharp Team travelled to The Land of the Rising Sun for the 14th Tour of Japan. A successful campaign, with several podium placings and great team work on stage 6 to get the win for British National Champion, Kristian House.” Photos by Shuhei Takenouchi. More at Rapha.
