H by Harris One Year Anniversary Film “Fixed”

Selectism - H by Harris One Year Anniversary Film "Fixed"

London bag maker, H by Harris celebrates one year in business with a new short film, Fixed. Dazed has the scoop. “A year ago, after styling musicians like Mark Ronson and Kelly Rowland, and having worked with major fashion players such as Nike and French Connection, stylist Elliot Harris decided to swap seats and to give something back himself, rather than just using other people’s products. The result was H by Harris, a qualitative accessory label, focused on manufacturing luxury bags and luggage. Stocked in premier retail outlets such as DSM and Browns, Harris saw it fit to celebrate his first year of trading with a wee film. And here we are – filmed by Manny Bonett, Fixed is equally obsessed with bikes as H by Harris bags, but why choose when you can have both?”

selectism - around the web

01. Last Stand? Yes. Last Word? Never.

“Few events in American history have generated as much commentary as the 1876 Battle of Little Bighorn, and George Armstrong Custer has become one of those contested figures who have been mythologized to the point of caricature: glorified as a romantic figure of frontier individualism and reviled as a glory-seeking avatar of genocidal hatred. In more recent years Custer’s story has also been told with more detail and dispassion: in Jeffry Wert’s 1996 account of his military maneuvers (“Custer: The Controversial Life of George Armstrong Custer”), and in Evan S. Connell’s novelistic classic, “Son of the Morning Star: Custer and the Little Bighorn” (1984).” (NYT).

02. Best Old-Fashioned Burgers

“Sixty years ago, drive-in burgers were synonymous with freshly ground high-quality beef. Today they mean tasteless mass-produced patties. We wanted to bring back the genuine article.” (Cook’s Illustrated).

03. How to Green an Embassy

“Earlier this year, Great Britain’s former foreign secretary, David Miliband, visited Beijing to foster greater dialogue between the UK and China about low carbon economic development. We — the UK — deliver more joint policy and engage in more technical and educational work with China on climate change and low carbon development than any other country. What is the value in this, however, if we are not leading by example?” (Design Observer).

04. Betting at the Belmont

“Saturday’s Belmont Stakes will mark the start of my eighth year in thoroughbred racing. The final leg of the Triple Crown isn’t particularly newsworthy this year: neither Super Saver, the Kentucky Derby winner, nor Lookin at Lucky, who won the Preakness, will be at the starting gate. But that won’t matter to me; I’ve gone days without seeing a single horse.” (New Yorker).

“Jack Rebney is the most famous man you’ve never heard of — a Winnebago salesman whose hilarious, foul-mouthed outbursts circulated on VHS tapes in the 90s before turning into a full-blown Internet phenomenon in 2005. Filmmaker Ben Steinbauer goes in search of Rebney — and finds him living alone on a mountain top, unaware of his fame. WINNEBAGO MAN is a laugh-out-loud look at viral culture and an unexpectedly poignant tale of one man’s response to unintended celebrity.” In theatre July 9th.

Selectism - PF Flyers Sumfun in Minty Green and Blue Sneakers

A bit popsicle in color but with all the energy floating on those Floro colors from OC the other day, we might as well mention them. The Sumfun is your basic “beat the sun” Summer sneaker. While most of our staff would prefer the white or grey varieties, we’re sure some of you want to overexpose your toes in these. Expect to drop 60$US on these.

It is pretty clear at this point that the Japanese know how to properly curate and move the market. This collection of neckties from NYC’s The Hill-Side for Beauty & Youth pull some fabrics that call the presence of Summer. From the looks of it, six styles are available. It is unclear if they’ll land on non-Japan shores, but we can only hope.  Aloha.

Selectism - Maison Martin Margiela Artisanal Bow Tie

MMM is one of the few houses that continues to progress in a manner which never puzzles the few who follow the line. It is important to note that some develop product for the masses while a unique few develop products for you and I. “Margiela’s Artisanal pieces are made from old and new fabrics, objects and accessories – all reworked entirely by hand. Each piece is unique and can appear aged or distressed due to the nature of the materials sourced. Margiela offers a lifetime guarantee for each piece, including repair or replacement of defective parts.” Available now from Oki-ni.

Amsterdam’s Denham opens doors on their Tokyo shop this weekend. “Opening to the public on June 4th, DENHAM’s stand-alone To- kyo store represents the second dedicated retail presentation following the successful opening of the label’s Amsterdam loca- tion. The new store’s Daikanyama address is perfectly suited for DENHAM’s distinct design ethic and product-culture. The district is home to Japanese denim temples Okura and Hollywood Ranch Market as well as newer concepts in modern utility such as Nan- amica and respected international brands like Paul Smith.”
