“Joe” Miniature Chair

04 June 2010, 17.02 | Posted in Design | No comments »

selectism - "Joe" Miniature Chair

Collecting highlights of modern and contemporary design is made easy(spatially, not fiscally) through Vitra’s miniatures program. The latest piece to join the pantheon of celebrated chairs is the “Joe” designed by Italian trio Jonathan De Pas, Donato D’Urbino, and Paolo Lomazzi. With a hard on for Americana and a love of Joe DiMaggio, they produced their tribute to the Yankee great in 1970.

You can now get a small one at the MCA Store.

Nike Match Classic Varsity Red Trainers

Selectism - nike-match-classic-fujiwara-trainer-1

Bargain lovers that we are, we’ve found another pair of cheap and cheerful trainers that’ll get you through the summer months. We’re not crazy about most things that are pre-beaten up to give off the ‘vintage look’ but these are a handsome pair of trainers. And, at £45, they’re much more affordable than our usual fare.  Wear them with those Umit Benan overalls we featured yesterday (whaddya mean you didn’t buy them?) [End]

Song remains the same, detailed images after the leap.

Wings + Horns Pique Polo Shirt

Selectism - wings-horns-pique-polo-shirt-01

We’ve got a fixation with polo shirts this summer. We would blame it on this world cup fever that’s hitting everyone right now – it’s even got some American footie fans actually thinking they have a chance against England – but we just like ‘em. This Wings & Horns polo comes  with a handsome button down contrast collar, handily avoiding the lager lout look most polo shirts are associated with. (The Bureau)

Take a leap to see a couple more shots of this shirt.

Selectism - James Bond's 1964 Aston Martin DB5

01. The Record: Contemporary Art And Vinyl

“‘The Record’ is the first museum exhibition to explore the culture of vinyl records within the history of contemporary art. Bringing together artists from around the world who have worked with records as their subject or medium, this groundbreaking exhibition examines the record’s transformative power, from the 1960s to the present. Through sound work, sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, photography, video and performance, “The Record” combines contemporary art with outsider art, audio with visual, fine art with popular culture, and established artists with those who will be exhibiting in a U.S. museum for the first time.” (nasher museum)

02. Nokia unveils bicycle-powered phone charger

“The Nokia Bicycle Charger Kit, which can be attached to any bicycle, powers up from the pedaling motion of the bike’s rider. A dynamo–the electricity generator–is powered by the front bicycle wheel as a rider pedals and transfers electricity to a charger attached to the handlebar, which a phone plugs into.” (cnet)

03. A heartbreaking call that could change the course of baseball

“This may well be the call that birthed expanded instant replay in baseball. Many people who might have been agnostic about expanding the use of replay to get calls right, will be asking this morning, ‘Tell me again, why don’t they use instant replay?’ Great question.” (si)

04. Christopher “moot” Poole: The case for anonymity online

“The founder of 4chan, a controversial, uncensored online imageboard, describes its subculture, some of the Internet “memes” it has launched, and the incident in which its users managed a very public, precision hack of a mainstream media website. The talk raises questions about the power — and price — of anonymity.” (ted)

05. James Bond’s 1964 Aston Martin DB5 (above)

“Hitting the auction block this October at the Automobiles of London event, this classic sports car is one of only two featured on screen during Goldfinger and Thunderball, complete with Bond’s machine guns, a bullet-proof shield, revolving number plates,a removable roof panel, and smoke screen, all controlled via toggles mounted in the arm rest. Chilled bottle of Dom Perignon ‘53 not included.” (uncrate)

Selectism - Baxter of California 45th Anniversary Blade and Sheath

Two of our favorite brands come together for a celebration. “Baxter of California, the premium menʼs grooming line since 1965, will be celebrating itʼs 45th anniversary. As part of our celebration, we commissioned American Blade manufacture Hart Steel to produce a limited edition cut throat razor. The blade dons a 14k gold inlay “45” on the spine of the blackened steel blade, signifying the 45 years of history. In addition, we collaborated with leather company Makr Carry Goods to produce a custom leather (Horween Chromexcel Horse Work Butts) sleeve for the blade.”
