Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2011

Selectism - Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2011

The looks keep flowing in. Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2011 runway photos have arrived. As usual, the collection large enough to fill a catalog so we’ll limit it to some of our favorites. As you’ll see from the image above, some of our favorite looks came from the men’s bags that accent the men’s ready to wear collection. As wwd tells it, “Washed denim bags were printed with a larger-scale monogram pattern or a massive archive logo. Printed shirts and scarves had logos integrated into chinoiserie designs interpreted by tattoo artist Scott Campbell. A sense of travel and adventure permeated the functional constructions and lightweight fabrics, said to be inspired by parachuters. Exotic looking jackets came in pebbled leather or colored python, while Damier check nylon bags hatched in reptilian green and electric blue.”

Fjällräven Summer Shorts

selectism - Fjällräven Summer Shorts

Two pairs of utilitarian shorts are on offer from Swedish outdoors experts Fjallraven this summer. They’ve got rather amusing names – “Karl” and “Sarek” – and serious fabric, namely Fjallraven’s G-1000. Both shorts have cargo pockets, with “Sarek” (shown in khaki) also boasting a map pocket. That means they are good for treaking… and perhaps also for carrying a grocery list.

Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 Presentation

Selectism - Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 Presentation

Fashionisto continues to showcase his favorite looks from Milan last week. The lastest: Marc Jacobs Spring 2011. “Marc Jacobs abandons the quirks of recent seasons to present a new collection of great restraint with militaristic subtleties. Offering a streamlined range of fitted suits alongside a glimpse of the casual, spring 2011 shapes up to be a serious season for the label, but with a significant difference in the number of pieces showed and the final looks, it is quite possible that this story has additional chapters.”

“I knew it was going to be wild when I signed on,” says Carolyn Murphy, who stars in Ryan McGinley’s exclusive short filmEntrance Romance (it felt like a kiss). “Next thing I know, my manager is telling me that they’re going to break glass on my head and my leading man’s a dog. I’m like, ‘That’s it?’ I was so sure I’d have to take my clothes off,” she says, laughing. Shot with a Phantom camera (capable of capturing video at over 1000 frames per second), Entrance Romance sees the all-American beauty (since 2002 the face of Estée Lauder) cheerfully turning a can of WD-40 into a flame thrower, passionately kissing a dog and smiling serenely as a bowl of goldfish smashes over her head.

Bent Basket by Faris Elmasu

selectism - Bent Basket by Faris Elmasu

Given our penchant for attractive bicycles, the allure of San Francisco-based designer Faris Elmasu’s “Bent Basket” might be obvious. Like Charles and Ray Eames before (sure, being a bit tongue in cheek, but think leg splints), Elmasu finds new use for bent plywood. The basket allows easy carrying of a range of goods… for some of you a 12-pack might be the kicker.

Common Projects Desert Boots

Selectism - common-projects-desert-boot-01

We’re all for a little colour on our feet, especially in the summertime. So these sky blue CP’s are a no brainer. There’s been a lot of jibber jabber about CP’s price rises over the last few seasons, but as this pair, or ‘jawnz’ as the kids call ‘em, are on sale (£144), it’s a little easier on the wallet than usual. Worried about how to wear these? We tend to put them on our feet and walk around. Don’t say we never help you guys. (Oki-Ni)

Take a leap, see those detailed shots.
