Posted up some stills of this film this morning, but it turns out that the good folks at HB have the super-exclusive. So here it is.

Selectism - gym-class-magazine-06-01

The latest issue of Gym Class Magazine is out and it’s one for magazine lovers. Entitled the ‘Magazine Fanboy Issue’, there’s interviews with Penny Martin, editor of The Gentlewoman, the co-founder of 032c and the art directors of Spanish Esquire and The Ride Journal. As you can probably guess from the above picture, there’s two alternate covers, the butt-inspired cover being the limited edition version. It’s available from Gym Class Magazine’s site.

If you’re still undecided what’s wrong with you? you can take a look at a flick through after the leap.

01. The Manute Bol Theory of “My Bad”

“After former NBA star Manute Bol died over the weekend, tributes in the sports pages recognized his awesome shot-blocking skills (it helped that he was 7-foot-7) and his equally awesome humanitarian work in his native Sudan. Another frequently cited legacy is that Bol popularized (or even coined) the expression ‘my bad’ as an athletic mea culpa. On the ESPN gabfest ‘Around the Horn,’ Bill Plaschke even said of the supposed coinage, ‘Language experts have pretty much proven this.’ Let’s investigate.” (Visual Thesaurus).

02. Alfa at 100: Prewar to Post-Graduate (above)

“WHO cares, one might reasonably ask, about the centennial of an automaker that stopped selling cars in the United States 15 years ago and didn’t sell many in the decades before that?” (NYT).

03. Phil Collins: The dad-rock icon plays soul classics.

“It’s like that episode of 30 Rock in which Tracy offers to make Jack a mixtape. Tracy: “You like Phil Collins?” Jack: “I have two ears and a heart, don’t I?” For any Phil fan, this is a perfectly reasonable assessment of the power in the man’s music. It’s also funny and ridiculous—and therefore perfectly suits an artist who, by his own admission, has never been cool.” (Timeout).

04. Party in the USA

“Over and over, everything seemed to go against them. A referee took away a win last week, and a linesman disallowed another goal Wednesday. Now there was just 3½ minutes left in their World Cup, just that much remaining until all the doubts about American soccer would rise again.” (ESPN).

Selectism - 20, a Martin Margiela Show, Somerset House, London

Cool Hunting cover the Somerset House showing of the Martin Margiela “20″ exhibit.  ”20,” a new show running throughout the summer at the beautiful Somerset House in London, celebrates 20 years of one of the most influential designers to have emerged from Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts… Capturing Margiela’s vision is no easy feat, but the Somerset House show incorporates installations, films, photography and visuals to demonstrate the deconstructivist approach so familiar to fans of the designer’s work. “20″ underlines the power of Margiela’s artistic vision and the resulting garments, the collections and indeed the attention to detail in couture and design.”

John Varvatos Spring/Summer 2011

Selectism - John Varvatos Spring/Summer 2011

John Varvatos presents his Spring/Summer 2011 offering to what Fashionisto describes as a “focused.” “Refining his craft, designer John Varvatos played it cool for the spring season. Sending out dark ensembles, incredibly focused on knits and outerwear, Varvatos turned his attention to the subtle details. While trousers, full-length and cropped remained stationary, duel layers added an interesting feature to coats, while scarf ties and belts buckled to the side spoke volumes to the sensitive yet edgier side of the Varvatos man. Rounding out the collection with a smart use of light suede and leather, Varvatos stayed true to his rock ‘n’ roll inspirations.”

Selectism - Cause Footwear

Something a bit more street forward than usual. Japan’s Cause Footwear has been around for a few years now working their own take on the iconic stylings of the deck, wally, and other silhouettes. Today we direct you to some new models available now at Goodhood. My first choice would be the blue deck with it’s chukka like wide mouth toe as well as the mid top moc/wally which gives you alternatives to the Visvim.
