For Spring 2011 the Abington Collection by Timberland adds a few new silhouettes to the growing line. Included is the above Moccasin, which has 3 options – one suede and two glove leather. A 7-Eyelet Moc Boot reverses that material ratio, and suede is again the primary on the new Brogue Oxford. Finally, the Lightweight Guide Boot comes in oiled canvas and offers a “rugged” twist on the typical sneaker chukka.
This is a sale pick (which means all the newness lovers should look away now). We had previously thought we were done with the summer jackets, but we couldn’t pass up this deal. Well, that and as a UK dweller, we officially only have a month of warm weather left before it’s back to changeable weather we know and love. The best thing about this (aside from the lowered price) is it’s pack-away-bility. No need to be sitting around getting unnecessarily muggy when you can stuff your coat into your bag. (Daniel Jenkins)
We’ve had a couple of snide comments about how we’re not posting up new stuff (and what is the internet without a slavish devotion to what’s new?) so here’s some AW10 product to make your mouth water. We’re longtime fans of Mr. Hare – we were the first site to ever feature him – so it’s great to see his Genet loafer finally get a release. Loafers are usually the preserve of the American prep set, but these are more Gainsbourg than Take Ivy. And we all know which one we’d prefer to be. (Oki-Ni)
01. Kicking Against The Pricks: Uffie On Sex Dreams & Denim Jeans
‘Uffie, many will probably be disappointed to read, comes across as a relatively likeable person. Not particularly dense or craven or snide… just, you know, someone releasing a pop record slightly later than expected.’ (The Quietus)
02. Vampire Weekend: ‘Being Sued Is Frustrating’
‘Vampire Weekend have responded to being sued by the cover star of their second album ‘Contra’ by telling NME they are finding legal issues around the case “frustrating”.’ (NME)
03. ‘I really wasn’t that concerned about morality in fiction’
‘American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis argues love and sadism are linked, and that technology has stopped us feeling’ (Guardian)
04. British Remains
‘how much post-Albam crap can we possibly take? Albam make excellent gear, fairly priced, but the slew of Albam-alikes pumping out button-downs, chinos, denim and totes makes a man want to self-harm. Regardless of the material weights, painstaking treatments, sourcing or manufacturer who’s within walking distance, a substantial amount of feverishly WordPressed product looks like Blue Harbour by Marks & Spencer. Ignore my quest for the perfect blank for a second. Bring back the print tee.’ (Gwarizm)
Beginning this fall, Eastland will flex its “Made in USA” and heritage muscles. The shoes, classic silhouettes all, take excellent Maine names – Seneca, Falmouth, Yarmouth, etc. The Yarmouth, a 1-eye camp moc, takes blue ribbon.
How can we pass up the opportunity to style ourselves in the form of Mr. F. Krueger? This “Antwerp” sweater from Wood Wood is a great crew knit piece which may scare away some of the boys and girls in late October. For those not looking to frighten, try the white on navy version which is also available. Both carry a larger shoulder crest as well. Works. C-store has them.
