selectism - ralph lauren's big pony fragrance collection

Launched today, Ralph Lauren’s new Big Pony Fragrance Collection aims to capture four key passions of young blokes the world over – sport, seduction, adventure, and style. Each passion represents a number, which in turn represents a fragrance. For example, #1 is sport, which is citrus flavored.

Selectism - Brioni Moleskine Notebooks by Carlo Stanga

Wallpaper* features a new moleskine notebook from Brioni in celebration of their 65th anniversary. “It’s been a big year for Brioni. The fashion house has marked its 65th year by collaborating with us on our ‘Wallpaper* Handmade… in Italy’ exhibition, opening several new stores and – of course – throwing a large party. And now it is celebrating the milestone with a commemorative Moleskine notebook, which it’s giving to friends of the brand, illustrated by the whimsical hand of artist, Carlo Stanga.”

selectism - (capsule) NY | Mark McNairy New Amsterdam Sweats

Mark McNairy’s glorious sweats have been criminally ignored by bloggers and civilians for too long. A V-Neck sweatshirt paired with well cut trousers make for an elegant casual outfit. It wouldn’t be out of the question to add an oxford shirt to the look. A gold necklace would also work (if not be a little better).

View the sweatshirt and trouser in full glory – though photographs by Jacob Breinholt – after the jump.

First Look | R6 Spring/Summer 2011

Selectism - R6-Spring-2011-01

Here’s a look at the R6 SS11 collection, a continuation of 6876’s Kenneth MacKenzie collaboration with Regent’s Belt company. The line continues to mix that old school heritage that everyone (and, judging from our recent round at the tradeshows, we mean absolutely everyone) is loving this season with new school functionality. It’s nice to be reminded that it is 2010 after all. Like always there’s a couple of backpacks, some tote bags and a range of belts. As it’s a Spring/Summer collection, the colours used are a little louder than the more sombre collections, but they’ll be sure to be a nice counteraction to the neutral colours most guys dress in. Look for it to ‘drop’ around January of next year.

Take a look at the rest of the collection after the leap.

Selectism - Burberry Prorsum Indigo Wash Military Shirt

For Autumn 2010, the Burberry Prorsum collection features this “indigo washed” military shirt. “Long sleeve indigo wash denim shirt. Two chest flap patch pockets, slit cuffs with snap button closure and pleat running the length of the back. Six snap button closure, fabric lined side splits and rounded tail ending.” The shirt looks best worn rather than modeled solo.

Levi’s for Opening Ceremony Corduroy Shirt

20 July 2010, 15.30 | Posted in Fashion | 2 comments »

Selectism - opening-ceremony-levis-cord-shirt-01

We feel a bit silly recommending a corduroy shirt in the middle of July, but you gotta think ahead sometimes. And seeing as it’s now pretty hot regardless of where you are, a shirt like this is only suited to those days when the weather calms down, unless you think beads of sweat are a great accessory. Cord shirts are great for folks who like their pieces to do double duty (i.e. us) and the sale price ($45) is the icing on the cake. (Opening Ceremony)

Polo Ralph Lauren Shawl Collar Cardigan

Selectism - ralph-lauren-shawl-cardigan-01

This piece isn’t gonna change the world  – we mean, it’s Ralph Lauren after all. But it is a good looking (some might say handsome) piece that’ll slot into your wardrobe and it’s available on sale. Aside from that, it also avoids Rugby’s oversized logo problem, which is a bonus. (Nitty Gritty)

Journal De Nimes Issue #5

Selectism - journal-de-nimes-01

We don’t know how it all started but it appears more and more stores are releasing their own magazines. Tenue De Nimes are now on their fifth issue, which concentrates on British labels. Aside from the usual (Nigel Cabourn and Gloverall are to be expected at this point), there’s also a feature on Tender, the brand we featured yesterday, and a Q&A with the head designer of Levi’s XX range. The magazine is available at their stores and there’s also an online version you can read here.

Take a leap to see spreads from the magazine.

01. The Fabulous Zab Judah

“Zab Judah 39-6 (27 KO’s) looked fabulous in his destruction of the experienced Jose Armando Santa Cruz 28-5 (17 KO’s). In the first round Zab boxed well and showed the athleticism and boxing fundamentals which made him a world champion; he worked behind the jab and kept moving, ducking and side stepping the best of Cruz’s punches. Zab even made Cruz look amateurish at times. In the third round, Zab let Cruz chase him around the ring while looking for counters. With forty seconds to go in the round Judah caught Cruz with a left uppercut as Cruz was coming in. Cruz got up at seven. Zab stormed in knowing that Cruz was hurt, and beat him into the ropes. The referee jumped in immediately.” (East Side Boxing).

02. Shedding Darkness on an Eakins Painting

“The critic Clement Greenberg once described Thomas Eakins’s signature brand of darkness as “an ideal chiaroscuro.” Eakins was known to knock down even the brightness of a cheerful blue sky with a sober dimming wash.” (NYT).

03. Have a seat. Especially if you’d like to die quicker

“Sometimes the design of animals is really not intuitive at all. Both horses and dogs have four legs, roughly the same body shape, and similar running mechanics, yet a horse spends its downtime on its feet, while dogs spend their idle moments off their feet.” (Core 77).

04. Green Your Home Entertainment with the Roku Box (Above)

“If you’re part of a family that’s really into technology and the bounty of entertainment options it has to offer, then the Roku Box may just be the thing you’ve been looking for to streamline your entertainment system. This hardworking gadget is the perfect way to compact your home entertainment into a lightweight little black box that’s both Wi-Fi ready and able to stream content directly to your TV! A great way to reduce your carbon footprint by dropping away all that plastic, packaging and other material related to DVD and blu-ray disc distribution, the Roku will let you uncoil yourself from the pile of wires collecting behind your TV and bid adieu to all the Earth-unfriendly clutter of the “olden days”!” (Inhabitat).
