Ute Ploier Spring 2011

Selectism - Ute Ploier Spring 2011 Looks

Fashionisto discusses the latest Ute Ploier Spring 2011 collection featuring model, Julian Cech, as shot by Jork Weismann. “Inspired by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas’ affection for daily swims in public baths, Ute Ploier turned her attention to theNightswimmer for spring’s collection…Pouring his soul into his work, the clothes of Ploier’s artist mirror his need for freedom and movement, even if it comes to using his body directly as part of the art. Provided generous proportions that are both light and gathered in precise places, Nightswimmer is enveloped in darkness for a minimalist season of great ease.”

Selectism - Wrangler Blue Bell Autumn/Winter 2010 Looks

Wrangler Blue Bell (for the Eu market) continues to refine their collection for Autumn 2010. “The Fall/Winter 2010/11 collection is dark as night, inspired by rockabilly perfectionism, the 80s-influenced-by-the-50s, and thrift store Americana. Colours are black, grey and white, with dark indigo a signature of the brand.” Tony Ward models the collection.

Selectism - zero-maria-cornejo-shoes-01

They spend most of their day as a womenswear label, but Zero + Maria Cornejo have been doing the odd menswear piece for a few seasons now. The latest addition is this small collection of shoes, made with George Esquivel. These are what some folks (i.e. us) would call handsome. No words on the pricing or availability yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we do.

Selectism - gloverall-spring-2011-01

Gloverall showed off some of their summer creations over in Berlin. As you’d expect from the duffle coat specialists, there’s several versions of the coat, including plenty suitable for the warmer weather. There’s a multitude of colourways this time around (our favourite was the sky blue) as well as a couple of nylon numbers for the hotter half of spring/summer.

Take a leap to see a couple extra shots.

New York Times | The Art of the Pants Roll

selectism - new-york-trouser-rolling

Always on the ball, The New York Times have just discovered this new trend of folks rolling their trouser leg up. We love articles like this. You know, articles when the tone is generally a confused ‘look at what the kids are doing these days’. If we were being nitpicky, we’d say that they’re a little late to the party (this article could’ve been written two years ago) but it’s a fun read nonetheless.

Take a look at the full feature here.

01. Pitchfork Festival to Be Webcast Live

“This year’s Pitchfork Music Festival is right around the corner! The big throwdown takes over Chicago’s Union Park July 16-18. Didn’t buy tickets yet? Well, you’re in luck. Tickets for Friday are going fast, though you can still get them here. As for Saturday and Sunday, we’ve made a limited number of tickets available, but they will only be procurable on-site on Thursday, July 15. The box office will open at 11 a.m. Show up early; they won’t last.” (p4k)

02. Harmony Korine’s Trash Humpers Soundtrack Is A Load Of Rubbish

“The official soundtrack to Harmony Korine’s new film, Trash Humpers, is being released in a similar ultra-limited edition run, although whether it will prove quite as attractive to collectors is rather less clear. If you don’t know Trash Humpers, it’s Korine’s fictional documentary about a subculture of lurking perverts in Nashville, Tennessee who get their kicks from, well, humping trash.” (guardian)

03. Hipster Priest: A Quietus Interview With Alan Moore (above)

“Alan Moore is holding court. He has a terrifying work ethic that belies the myth of laziness often lazily ascribed to his sub-cultural fringe of writers, anarchists, psycho-geographers, psychedelic bon vivants and occultists, and he doesn’t usually have much time for interviews. This said, he is extremely good company and you can tell he enjoys playing the expansive raconteur all the more because he gets little opportunity to indulge himself.” (thequietus)

04. Is A Career In Packaging Design Appealing To Id Grads?

“Like my college classmates, I studied industrial design with thoughts of going into furniture, electronic products or auto design, the sexier subdivisions of ID. Package design never occurred to any of us as an option until one of our number, a guy named Randy, got an internship doing package design. It paid roughly 50% more than any other ID internship at the time, and when he came back to the studio and told us what he was making we all dropped our glue guns.” (core77)

Sinn U2 Watch for Solebox, Berlin

Selectism - Sinn U2 Watch for Solebox, Berlin

Sinn watches have been on the Selectism radar for some time due to the apparent love of the German make by friends in the industry. While in Berlin this week, we received word that Sinn had completed a short run of custom “U2″ watches for the local Solebox shop. It is fantastic.

“The diving watch U2 is a professional mission timer which uses genuine German submarine steel, a material with extreme seawater resistance and the highest level of non-magnetic properties…The watch is packed with functionality and will come with a silicone strap, as well as an olive Zulu canvas strap.”

Only 10 units of the Sinn U2 Watch by Solebox are being produced. They go on sale on July 17th for just under 3000 euros. My bank account is about to be emptied.

Dazed gives space for the Damir Doma Spring 2011 offering and a concept video work with Malcome Pate and DJ Hell. “In the midst of Berlin Fashion Week, Damir Doma found time time to present his second line, Silent. It’s not a diffusion line per se; no jeans or watered down catwalk pieces were on display in his Mitte showroom…Keeping elements of his fundamental aesthetics while adding fabrics and cuts that will appeal to most, Doma has created an accessible clothing line with its strong integrity intact… Doma threw a rooftop party and showed ‘Ghosts in Architecture’, his unique film collaboration with image-maker Malcolm Pate and legendary music producer DJ Hell.”
