Hamilton Below Zero “Predator Black” Watch

Selectism - Hamilton Below Zero "Predator Black" Watch

So the new “Predators” movie will hit U.S. theaters today, July 9th. We can only hope they have done what they could to live up to the original  (none of which could live up to the Dark Horse AvP run back in the day).  But on the the placement front, it would seem like the 46mm Hamilton Below Zero model got a special PVD treatment for the movie on at least one variation. Color comes in on the day.

selectism - Surf Island: A Ride with Newport's Surf Community

From Curated -

On view through September 6, 2010, Surf Island: A Ride with Newport’s Surf Community highlights an exceptional series by photographer Jason Evans. Evans, best known for his work in professional athletics, takes stock of a community of surfers through action photographs and intimate portraiture. The result is a rich, vivid account of Newport, RI’s surf life. And, as a visit yesterday proved, an exhibition a bit out of the norm for the Newport Art Museum.

Yes, this is a bit of an excuse to place a tattooed lady on our homepage.

Selectism - ndc-spring-2011-01

Here’s an sneak peek at what NDC have in store for Spring/Summer 2011. If one thing’s obvious, it’s that the red brick sole is gonna reach fever pitch next spring. NDC have done it in an interesting way though, so we’re not gonna bitch about it. Elsewhere, there’s the high top boat shoes that are slowly catching on and some espadrille-esque shoes.

Song remains the same, take a leap to see those images.

Selectism - trickers-01

Here’s a look at some of Tricker’s custom make ups. As we’ve noted before, Tricker’s don’t do seasonal collection, but they show at Bread & Butter purely to show off what they can do. New editions include some crepe soled brogues (which they’ve been doing for eons) and  heir usual array of boots and shoes. Although these specific models aren’t at any stores yet, they would retail at around £300 in any Tricker’s store.

Take a look to see more of that good stuff.

Kolor for Porter Cowhide Shopper

Selectism - kolor-porter-shopper-01

Despite the whole collab thing getting a tad played out, we still love it when two brands we like work together. And that’s just what happened when Kolor teamed up with Porter on this small collection of shopper bags. As you’d expect, we like the results. And as you’d expect, the prices are stratospheric. But hey, if you’ve got the coins, go for it. (Oki-Ni)

First Look | Perfecto by Schott N.Y.C. Spring 2011

09 July 2010, 12.28 | Posted in Fashion | 4 comments »

selectism - first look

While Jason and Jeff are enjoying the spoils of Berlin, I took a quick ride up the New Jersey Turnpike to visit handsome Elizabeth, New Jersey.

The purpose of the trip? To view the Perfecto by Schott N.Y.C. Spring 2011 collection. Literally fresh off the factory floor, the new collection highlights the best of the best from Schott’s 98 year history. New Schott creative directory, Greg Chapman (seen above fitting me in a Mountain Parka), explains, “The Perfecto Brand by Schott NYC is for men with high taste levels who understand the construction, materials and history behind the garments. The pieces are not based on trend; the styles have been passed down in the Schott family for nearly 100 years. These jackets are built to last for decades.”

In the name, Chapman pays homage to Schott’s first ever collection, released in 1928. In that year, Irving Schott took advantage of the growing motorcycle market by introducing a line of leather jackets named for his favorite cigar – the Perfecto. Today the line continues to be manufactured in these United States, with emphasis on local sourcing an added bonus.

The Perfecto by Schott N.Y.C. line will debut officially on July 19, 2010 at (Capsule) NY. A full first look preview and the specs for all four jackets in the collection comes after the jump.

Selectism | Around the Web

01. Gehry Residence / Frank Gehry (above)

“Gehry actually did keep the existing house almost completely in tact, but not in a conventional manner. The Dutch colonnial home was left in tact and the new house was built around it. Holes were made, walls were stripped, torn down and put up, and the old quiet house became a loud shriek of contemporary style among the neighboring mansions–literally. Neighbors hated it, but that did not change the fact that the house was a statement of art entwined with architecture.” (arch daily)

02. Inside the City’s Last Silent Place

“Rubberneckers take note: The door is locked at all times, and access is restricted to those who have book contracts, a photocopy of which must accompany requests for a key card. “It’s like Aladdin’s cave,” Mr. Rose said of the room, which he heard about through the literary grapevine. “I looked it up, and it actually did exist.”"
(observer)

03. Shadow Boxer

“Like most artists of that time, Harvey made a great distinction between his commercial art and his fine art. Warhol famously recognized these consumer objects as the most elemental creations of our society. By refusing to separate fine art and commerce, Warhol, who had also been a commercial artist during the ’50s, turned Harvey’s Brillo box into Brillo Box. In the book After the End of Art, the philosopher and art critic Arthur Danto asks, “What distinguishes Warhol’s Brillo Box from the Brillo boxes in which Brillo comes?” On that day in April, the difference had never been so small.” (print)

04. ESPN tries to balance reporting, business with LeBron special

“Still, there are journalism watchdogs who believe this is simply business in 2010. “We’re now in a new media world — and an economy — in which we’re often in uncharted waters and old conventions are being tested,” said Tim Franklin, the director of the National Sports Journalism Center at Indiana University, in an email. “As far as I know, ESPN is not paying LeBron for the interview, which would raise journalistic issues for sure. While this is unconventional, I don’t see it as unethical, either. The money is being donated to charity, and newspaper sports sections sell ads around special sections pegged to news events. The difference here is that the news event is not a game, but an announcement.”" (espn)
