Selectism - Brooks "Colt" Bicycle Saddles Return in Spring 2011

Brooks Saddles of England should be familiar to most of our readers at this point. Brooks is one of those “heritage” brands which falls closer to the cycling world than fashion, but that does not hinder the brand from showcasing their leather cycling accessories at Bread & Butter Berlin. We’ll highlight their Spring 2011 bags shortly, but for the moment, may I introduce to you the “Colt” saddle from the Brooks archive.

The “Colt” which originally appeared in the Brooks catalog back in the 70’s returns for Spring in some interesting colors. While we’re  told that the tanning processing of colors for the “Colt” were not exactly what they expected (except for the mustard shade), Brooks was still happily surprised with the results to put them on the market. The saddle’s shape is reminiscent of those Italo favorites and features hand stamped rivets.

Denim Demon Guadta Tote Bag

Selectism - denim-demon-tote-bag-01

Despite our love of the backpack, we still like our totes. This one’s (obviously) made of denim, meaning that we’d avoid wearing it with denim, lest you look like the sort of guy who spends days cooking up outfits like a crazed scientist. As you’d expect from the (relative) bargain hunters here at SL, it’s on sale at 79 euros. (C Store)

Song remains the same, tale a leap to see those shots.

selectism - Selectism Feature | Farah 1920

Heritage. Heritage. Heritage.

Right as rain, the popular theme of 2010 continues to run through to the Autumn season. Farah 1920, a special capsule collection from Farah Vintage, celebrates 90 years of manufacture and draws direct inspiration from key moments in company history.

Our newest feature highlights the varied cultural associations that helped Farah build a legacy. In short, it is as much about the pieces that come together to form a heritage story than the particular Farah story.

Illustrating the piece are period advertisements and historically based mock-ups like that seen above.

Selectism - Filson "Black Label" Collection for Spring 2011

Bread & Butter Berlin served up some interesting exclusive debuts for the Europeans, which may lead to some jealous neighbors in the Americas and Far East. The Filson “Black Label” collection,  is (at this time) looks at this time to be a European exclusive. “Black Label” collection was designed and produced in Italy – with source materials coming direct from Filson’s Seattle archive. Original hunting (almost farmer) pants and shirts has been slightly modified for a more modern fit. The pants and shorts, especially) should be held in hand to feel the durability in the material.

Heritage Research Duffle Bag

Selectism - heritage-research-mariners-duffle-bag-01

Another day, another sale pick. We like the heritage backpacks as much as anyone else, but we’ve got a sneaking suspicion that this one would dig into your shoulders if you carry anything heavy. Still, it’s a good bag for an overnight stay or those days when you’re not carrying too much (and yet, inexplicably, need a huge bag). [Kiosk 78]

Take a leap, see those images.

Selectism - the-green-magazine-01.jpg

Magculture turns us onto The Green Soccer Journal, a magazine we first found out via twitter. Aside from the usual things setting it apart from most football magazines (good design for one), they’ve also got an enviable contributor list. Including folks like Guardian Sports writer Richard Williams, illustrator Peter Till and photographer Neil Bedford, it’s clear they roll deep.

Selectism - Bread & Butter Berlin | Barbour To ki To Spring 2011

We’re on site at Bread & Butter Show in Berlin to bring you some looks at collections coming for Spring 2011. First up, is a look at the Barbour To Ki To Spring 2011 offering. While the mainline for Spring may be headed in a direction that includes the infusion of color, the To Ki To collection remains grounded in the fundamentals of the Barbour lifestyles. Designer, Tokihito always adds a variety of accents to the line. The “Duralinen Trials Shirt” in olive includes a wrap which attached the rear of the jacket to the front via a crotch wrap – which helps in keeping the dirt off your slack.

Many more individual looks from the Barbour To ki To Spring 2011 collection after the click.

The Cut | Christophe Lemaire Interview

Selectism - christophe-lemaire-01

While we’re aware of the Christophe Lemaire the designer, we’re not accustomed to Christophe Lemaire the interviewee, put it like this – he doesn’t hold back on his opinions. During his interview with the Cut he talks about his dislike for Purple magazine, leaving Lacoste (the place he’d revived since he joined in 2000) and his dislike of the fashion cycle.

‘I really hate this idea that you have to change your wardrobe every six months – that’s bullshit. At the end of the day, you have to find your own style vocabulary.’

Selectism - lou-reed-metal-machine

01. Lou Reed booed in Canada for free-improv set (pictured)

‘Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson and John Zorn faced a furious crowd on Friday night, playing cacophonous music to a cacophony of boos at the Montreal International Jazz festival. Fans expecting Sweet Jane or Walk On the Wild Side were instead met by the skronk and skree of Reed’s more recent free-jazz work, infuriating sections of the crowd. As audience members hollered their complaints, Zorn responded. “If you don’t think it’s music, then get the fuck outta here.”‘ (Guardian)

02. Gamboa, Rojas agree to Sept. 11 fight

‘Featherweight titlist Yuriorkis Gamboa will still attempt to unify belts, just not against Orlando Salido as originally planned. Instead, Gamboa will face Elio Rojas to unify two of the major 126-pound titles.’ (ESPN)

03. The Best Albums Of 2010 So Far

‘Not content with the sleep deprivation and eye-meltingly long shifts producing our once-yearly best albums list, just to endure a torrent of abuse from fans of Wavves, Coldplay and Mumford and Sons, we decided we weren’t punishing ourselves enough…’ (The Quietus)

04. On The Street….Masculine Details, Milano

‘Everything about this guy is truly old-school Italian: his stare, his gait, and his impeccably tailored suit. Unfortunately, upon every occasion of me raising my camera to take his portrait he would lower his head and walk away.’ (The Catorialist)
