Birche Magazine Illustrates Spring/Summer 2011

Selectism - Birche Magazine Illustrates Spring/Summer 2011

Inspired by the runways of Milan and Italy, Birche Magazine illustrates their favorite looks from the Spring/Summer 2011 runways. “Late June in Milan marks the beginning of the menswear collections for next year’s S/S season– and the end of this year’s Praire minded thinking. Gone are the straw hats & handkerchiefs and in are the simple shapes and colors of the early 90’s. From Jil Sander to DSquared2 bright colors and baggier cuts took center stage. In contrast, as seen in; Burberry Prorsum, Neil Barrett and Prada, seemed to tell the story of a more forward thinking man…” Much more to be seen than we’re showing so be sure to visit Birche Magazine.

Selectism - NSF Summer 2010 Looks

NSF drops their summer 2010 looks for your viewing pleasure. Some inspiration behind the season: “Inspired by Los Angeles beach living. At the intersection of surf and work life, the summer collection is relaxed and familiar. From the chinos and cut offs to the washed finishes of the plaid shirts, these are clothes that harkens back to days spent cruising the towns and beaches along PCH by bike or board, from County Line to the pier at Venice.” Go Cali!

Capsule Spring/Summer 2011 | Peter Jensen

Selectism - peter-jensen-spring-2011-01

We’ve been fans of Jensen’s knitwear for a while now seeing his stand was a nice surprise. Because it’s a spring collection, the knitwear is of the lighter variety and well suited to everything but the weather in Paris last week. Jensen’s knitwear is great for the folks who like their knitwear to make more of a statement than ‘I ran through a workwear store with a black card’.

Take a leap to see another Jensen Jumper.

Capsule Spring/Summer 2011 | Petrou/Man

Selectism - petrou-man-spring-2011-01

We like heritage as much as the next man, but it’s very easy to get workwear’d out at a tradeshow like Capsule. So seeing a brand like Petrou/Man is a breath of fresh air. There’s definitely workwear influences (denim shirting and madras is all over this collection) but it’s done in a manner that most heritage brands wouldn’t attempt.

Take a leap to see those more shots of the collection.

The Stryde Collection by Michael Wolk

selectism - stryde collection

Drawing (liberally) from the International style… and quite ubiquitous 1950s chevron forms… Michael Wolk’s Stryde Collection for Loewenstein hits the mark. In most basic terms the chairs and side tables are elegant and streamlined. Wolk designs with a belief that all parts of an interior may be read as art.

The contrast of wooden support and upholstery works beautifully, as do the angles. The collection, as a whole, successfully references the past without too much trapping. Both oak and beech woods are available, thus allowing for some individuality. (via Contemporist).

Capsule Spring/Summer 2011 | Universal Works

Selectism - universal-works-spring-2011-01

Kicking off our capsule recap today is Universal Works, who always have great outerwear. Universal Works are gaining a rep for their outerwear and their new jackets show just why they’ve got the interwebz going crazy. Nothing’s overdone or overdesigned, but it’s an easy wardrobe filler. Aside from that, there’s an abundance of polkadot summer scarves, which looks to be the accessory of next summer.

Selectism - nike-98-collection-01

(L-R: Katie Eary, Tim Soar)

We don’t usually post up much Nike here (that’s what our big bro High Snob is for) but Nike’s latest collab is well suited to SL. Nike and Tank magazine teamed up to bring together six designers to re-imagine the N98 track jacket with a 2012 Olympic hopeful. Designers included the likes of Tim Soar, Sibling and Katie Eary, who were given free reign to work on these jackets. The athletes included Martyn Rooney (no relation as far as we know), Danny Care and Charlotte Purdue. While we’re not familiar with these names just yet, we’re sure to be come 2012.

Take a leap to see the rest of the collection.

01. Telling Stories: Norman Rockwell From George Lucas And Steven Spielberg Collections

“Norman Rockwell, arguably America’s favorite illustrator, had a unique ability to find and visualize stories that endure in our memories. His largely sunny vision of America, as conveyed in his paintings, reflected the world he lived in — and influenced American culture from the 1920s through the 1970s. He said his aim was ’showing the America I knew and observed to others who might not have noticed.’” (The Bee).

02. The Object Society’s 2nd Annual Exhibition in Chicago

“While we were in Chicago for the NeoCon show, we visited the Object Society’s 2nd annual exhibition. The Object Society is a group of individual designers in Chicago who get together every year to show some of their recent work.” (Contemporist).

03. Q&A: Where will top free agents land?

“NBA free agency tips off tonight at 12:01 a.m. ET. How will it all go down? We asked our experts for their best guesses on where the top 10 free agents will land this summer.” (ESPN).

04. Football Training Center / Chartier – Corbasson (Above)

“The setting up of a training center has opened up a dialogue between domesticated nature, artificially represented by football pitches, and the untamed greenery on the banks of the River Selle.” (Arch Daily)
