JAK & JIL offers up some excellent looks at the men’s bags coming this Spring  2011 from Dries Van Noten. Serious business from the brand which does an excellent job mixing the full leather pieces against others where the leather simply accentuates the overall finish of the bag . And his photo’s are simply amazing too.

Stone Island Shadow Project, Bagjack Transformable Bag

Selectism - Stone Island Shadow Project, Bagjack Transformable Bag

Hunting and fishing. It is coming strong. Until then, enjoy this excellent convertible messenger/backpack/daypack from the Shadow Project collection from Stone Island. Berlin’s Bagjack got involved as well in making this unit. The overprint is a “tiger skin” using the expected high tech fabrics you only come to see from Shadow Project. It looks like Bagjack also produced the bags. Well done. (moclassics)

Newsprint Wallpaper by Lori Weitzner

Selectism - Newsprint Wallpaper by Lori Weitzner

For those who have had to remove old wallpaper from plaster, you probably swore up and down that you would never apply wallpaper. Admittedly, I am one of those people but after Design Milk posted their writeup on Lori Weitzner’s take on wallpaper, my opinion could very well change.  The wallpaper is made by weaving strips of shredded newsprint through a loom and finally backing it with paper for application. The looks is unique and one I would certainly consider applying them to my walls.

Selectism - Bell & Ross The Vintage Original and Heritage Line of Watches

Bell & Ross drop a grand collection of 1940’s aviator inspired wristwatches – part of their “Vintage Collection” – take a turn at working arm pieces in the round with 41mm faces. ” The traditional shape of the round case is reminiscent of wristwatches of yesteryear while its ergonomics provide the comfort modern day wearers have come to expect. The domed crystal recalls the crystals of the time period. Unlike the original 1940’s wristwatches, it is produced using extremely strong sapphire thanks to improved manufacturing techniques. The refined dial graphics optimize readability, taking their inspiration from cockpit instruments.”  There is a slew timepieces to choose from in a variation of looks including the simple black, black on beige, and many more. Spend some time in our gallery…

Corwin Butterworth Custom Furniture

selectism - Corwin Butterworth Custom Furniture

Based in Wakefield, Rhode Island, Corwin Butterworth began his career in the arts with paint before gravitating towards wood in 1998. A two-week continuing education course at RISD provided quick springboard into the medium, the short stint enough to find Butterworth assisting Barry Sumrall in his workshop. The experience kicked off a series of apprenticeships for Butterworth. He’s worked in England and completed the intensive course at the Center of Furniture and Craftsmanship in Rockland, Maine.

Now five years into his own studio, Butterworth concentrates on custom designed, hardwood furniture. His comfort ranges from seating to neat little boxes. He’s no slouch with cutting boards either. The range of influences are obvious (Asian, Scandinavian, Shaker, etc.), but the artists stamp is rarely lost. His pieces are functional and full of personality – the above 4-Post chair as firm  example of Butterworth’s contemporary and personal take on past styles.

Selectism - Steel Display Cabinets by Sylvie Meuffels

Taxidermy aside,  these display cases by Sylvie Meuffels for JSPR may spark some innovation in the display case world. We want to see more of this. One day, our Berlin editor will store his gorgeous toy collection in cases like this. “JSPR, a young Dutch interior design brand founded by Eindhoven graduate Jasper van Grootel, launched this family of a piece of furniture which has been out of fashion for a long time: the display cabinet. Available in different sizes and dimensions it is composed of an oakwood base and a sturdy powder coated steel frame completely suited with glass.” (dailytonic)

+J Heather Crew Neck T-Shirt

selectism - +J-heather-t-shirt-01

We’ve been bingeing on t-shirts as much as trainers lately, but what can we say? It’s still summer dagnammit. We’re still on a search for the perfect tee and, in the words of Mobb Deep, there’s a war going on outside no man is safe from. We’re backing the crew necks ourselves, so this piece from the +J collection is worth pulling the trigger for. While the heather colour is great, it’s probably best to stay away if you’re prone to sweating a fair bit. It’s fair to say that sweat patches will never be ‘in’. (Uniqlo)

Common Projects Red Suede Toe Cap

Selectism - common-projects-red-toecap-01

We just noticed we’ve been on a trainer recommendation trip here at SL. Don’t get us wrong, we love our shoes, but we don’t wanna rock shoes every day. Whenever we put up a CP piece, we always feel the need to discuss the cost (or at least the recent rise in cost). There’s always room for suede footwear in our lives (be it shoes or trainers) so this was always gonna be a firm favourite. At this rate we’ll be buying as much suede protector as Kim Jong Il buys hennessey. (Oki-Ni)
