Mr. William’s View of “New York Market Week”

23 July 2010, 23.48 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Selectism - ACL on "New York Market Week"

How about a roundup from ACL on Mr. William’s view of what Spring 2011 is to bring us, eh? “The past few days have been spent running around (though actually I have been biking) looking at all of the spring 2011 clothes that have rotated over to New York. These times of the year are always fun and inspirational. It is also great to be able to see friends that have come to town from all over the world. I tried to stay focused (which was especially tough yesterday after Monday’s late night activities) and document the good stuff I found and saw.”

mad men casual The Top 10 Casual Looks from Mad Men

Our friends at Valet seem excited about the start of the fourth season of Mad Men this Sunday in the States.  They recap some of their favorite styles from past seasons.  ”Two years ago, we met with Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant, who deconstructed the Eisenhower-era styling of the newly popular program. The show returns this Sunday with nine Emmys on the shelf and 17 nominations in its pocket—including one for Bryant’s costume design.”

universal works fall 2010 selectism 0 Universal Works Autumn/Winter 2010 Looks

For those looking for something more immediate from Universal Works, we bring you a look at their Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. For those that saw an early look of their Spring 2011 collection earlier in the month, you’ll be happy to know that the preceding seasons will not let you down. “Universal Works is the brainchild of David Keyte who started his adult life working in the coal mines of South Derbyshire. All the money Keyte earned working in the mines he spent on clothes, which eventually led him to get a job at the Paul Smith store in Nottingham.” (cstore)

The Herschel Supply Co. has been getting some high profile looks of late. The company’s plan to offer a well priced bag line would seem to be working – at least on me. Their Pop Quiz backpack is a classic clean look and comes with a boot for your laptop. “Fully lined with Herschel’s Custom Fabric, synthetic leather bottom, internal cushioned protective computer sleeve (up to 15˝), 2 front pocket’s one with waterproof zipper, internal media pocket, front pocket organizer, fleeced lined sunglass pocket” Need Supply has them.

(capsule) NY | Garbstore Spring 2011

selectism - (capsule) NY | Garbstore Spring 2011

Some of our favorite Garbstore pieces are those that find inspiration in mid-century athletic wear. Spring 2011 sees quite a bit of that… with fine sweatshirts, sweat-shorts, and a rather exceptional training top. The sweatshirts feature portraits of “Men Who Did,” basically a group exceptional blokes.

Following a collaborative shoe project last season, Garbstore is also introducing a trio of shoes in Spring ‘11. Two boots and a slip on… all with chunky soles… make up the set.

Mr. Paley has also produced a pair of seamless selvedge denim trousers. These, almost needless to say, are pretty amazing.

Head Porter Plus Varsity Jacket

Selectism - head-porter-plus-varsity-jacket-01

Here’s another of those brands that are usually over at our big brother site, but to us a good varsity is a good varsity. And this Head Porter Plus jacket is just that (and by that, we mean a good varsity, if you haven’t read that phrase enough already). Getting dudes into colours that aren’t grey or blue is always a challenge, but we think this shade of red is wearable enough. And there is a blue version if you can’t stand the thought of wearing colour. (Tres Bien)

Furniture | Poltrona Frau for Bottega Veneta

selectism - Poltrona Frau for Bottega Veneta

From Curated -

Bottega Veneta began working with designer Poltrona Frau two years ago with the introduction of the Meta Chair. The chair, spurred by Bottega Veneta creative director Tomas Maier, now serves as the base for a larger, more comprehensive collection. Items have been designed for reading, lounging and socializing. Emphasis is on leather upholstry – not surprisingly – which hits the forms (chair, ottoman, stool, sofa, etc.) well.

Penfield Orange Vasson Jacket

Selectism - penfield-orange-vasson-jacket-01

We’ve had a soft spot for orange jackets (don’t ask why) and now Penfield are indulging us with this version of their Vasson jacket. Like 99.9% of folks in fashion, we’re now thinking about dressing for winter whilst looking at clothes for next spring  – August be damned. This is a relatively lightweight piece, so you could easily wear it on a rainy summer evening. (Flatspot)

Acne Pilot Bomber Jacket

Selectism - acne-pilot-bomber-jacket

It’s gonna be a jacket heavy day today. Don’t blame us, blame the fashion schedule that leaves us looking at jackets in July and shorts in February. And, to make matters worse (or better, depending on your bank balance) you can’t get hold of this yet. Although, given that it retails at £1, 420, that just gives you time to save up. (Acne)

Sunny Sports Rising Border T-Shirt

We’re starting to find details on t-shirts addictive. Yesterday we raved over a pocket on a tee and now we’re gonna rave over a clever logo placement on a tee. We’re not usually fans of logos on shirts, but if you’re gonna add one, don’t just slap it on willy nilly – take notes from Sunny Sports. (CHCM)
