Selectism - Bed Stu "Gulf Coast Cleanup" Collection

The good folks at Bed Stu make a strong statement with their  ”Gulf Coast Cleanup” collection of footwear. The looks speak for the themselves. The focus is on cleaning up the mess left in Gulf of Mexico from this year’s spill. With that focus in mind, Bed Stu will donate 100% of the profits from the sale of the “Gulf Coast Cleanup” collection to restore wildlife in the Gulf. The collection will hit stores around November 2010.

  1. Michael:

That’s a great way for Bed Stu to not have to donate much money to the cause. 100% of the profits on sales of a style no one will buy.

  2. I almost wrote “too soon?” … but then read that profits are being donated which is awesome …. I picked up a pair of boots from Bed Stu 2 years ago and they are the coolest boots i’ve ever seen ….. wore them to a wedding once and the photographer kept taking photos of them (note: it was a casual wedding at the shore in October so it was ok to wear them!)

  3. W. Melton:

Only Neo-Brooklynites could be this idiotically tone-deaf. Michael said it best, way to not make a difference.

  4. Mike:

Hmm…the cause is right, but the shoes are horrible. ugghh…

Did you clean up oil in those? No, someone painted them with oil or something that looks like it, the proceeds went to the gulf, so it’s almost like I was there.

Hate this kind of fake distressed merchandise. Would rather buy it raw and distress it myself. But oil on my shoes? I think I would be more bummed than anything else. They look like they belong in a trash can.

  5. nathan:

    these are gross and ridiculous

  6. Gabe:

At least it might bring awareness and gets us talking about the cleanup efforts. 100% percent of the profits is unheard of. Look forward to getting a pair to support a good cause.

  7. Wackadoodle:

Gabe, if you’re looking to make a difference in the Gulf, please just donate the money directly to it, rather than dropping $100 on these. Then, at least, $100 will go to make a difference, rather than the $5 or $10 net profit that will end up being donated.

  8. Superprecise:

I concur, what a half-baked gesture. Why not make some really great shoes, and donate the proceeds from them. These are, as far as I can tell, a bad attempt at being subversive and charitable at the same time.

  9. Adam G.:

I like it, and that’s what my loafers look like after about 6 months anyways. And why dont all the haters come up w/ their own idea, instead of critize this one.

  10. Thomas C:

These are amazing shoes… I can’t wait to buy a few paira.. These are for such a great cause… Way to go Bed Stu!!!

  11. Rosi:

Nothing I hate more than negative losers! Such a great idea for a company to help out just by doing what they do best and 100% of the proceeds is awesome! Let people donate the way they want to, these are really cool shoes :)

  12. 7thWard Nola:

I’m so glad somebody finally made the worst environmental disaster ever into a fashion statement! FAB!!
Also donating money to offset BP’s costs of cleanup seems misplaced.

  13. I do not see it as donating to “offset” the cost for BP. The money is simply going to a wilderness fund which works on keeping our shores safe – with or without BP.

  14. librarian:

PR scam. Come up with some better ideas. Make an actual difference by not producing products that encourage the very use of the chemicals that have polluted the gulf. How much paint, chemicals, transportation costs from CHINA did it take to produce this horrible attempt at fashion?
