Cycle Designs by Peter Varga

selectism - Cycle Designs by Peter Varga

Slovakian designer Peter Varga has garnered significant praise over the last several years for his bicycle designs. In 2007, his master’s project (a folding bicycle) won a national prize for design. The previous year, the above shown Citycle took 8th at the International Bicycle Design Competition. And, finally, last year, Varga left that same competition with a merit prize – lifted for his design of a recumbent fixed gear bike.

Most exciting about all Varga’s work is that each and every bike appears a fun ride. Not our typical rides, sure, but nonetheless impressive.

View both the folding bike and the Oneybike (that recumbant fixed gear) after the jump. (via Core 77).

Ann Demeulemeester Rucksack

selectism - ann-demeulemeester-rucksack-01

Rucksacks tend to split into two camps: either they’re overly rustic or their made of buttery soft leather. This bag, by Ann Demeulemeester – or Ann D for those too lazy to spell her name – falls into the latter camp. As far as high end designer rucksacks go, this is actually one of the cheaper options out there (we’re well aware that calling anything with a £570 price tag cheap is bordering on insanity). Our only nitpick with this is that the strap might make it uncomfortable to carry heavy loads. (The Corner)

Sage de Cret Parka

Selectism - sage-de-cret-parka-01

We’re a big fan of getting value for money, so anything piece that doubles as two pieces in one is always gonna be up our alley. And whaddya know? this parka does just that. A regular parka on the outside, the inner lining can be removed and used as a padded jacket. Now the only problem is getting hold of this in the first place. Get your proxy on at Museum Arks.

Take a leap to see images of the lining.

Mr. Hare Huxley Shoe

Selectism - mr-hare-huxley-shoe-01

We know we tend to pick shoes from the crazier side of spectrum at times (read: 99% of the time) but here’s a shoe you could wear to the office. Of course, wearing this shoe depends a lot of whether you’d want to wear £400 shoes to the office, but that’s neither here nor there. There’s are a handsome, understated pair of shoes and the brogue detail quirk is enough to sate the crazy in us. (Oki-Ni)

01. Weezer Reveal Ridiculous Album Cover

“At this point, Weezer may be better at creating WTF internet memes than making songs. Here they go again with the cover for their upcoming record Hurley, due out on Epitaph September 14. As Spinner reports, the cover is a close-up photo of Jorge Garcia– aka Hurley from “Lost”– as you can see. He looks happy to be off the island.” (Pitchfork)

Selectism - Luminox Atacama Watches and Chronographs

Luminox is set to release a new take on the field watch with the Atacama Field Series. “The Atacama is a region in northwest Chile where the Atacama Desert, one of the driest areas in the entire world, is found. This new series is the perfect compliment for such an environment…Offered in a day/date version at 42mm and a chrono alarm in both 42mm and 47mm, the timepieces have black dials with safari or tan markings on the dials that match the new rough suede split cowhide straps, or sunray blue dials with gray markings that match the gray suede straps, so all employ the Colormark concept that has performed so well in other Luminox models, where the dials are black (or dark blue) and the markings are in contrasting colors.”

Look for them in stores this October for around $400-$650 with the chronograph version being at the higher end.

selectism - Founders Brewing Company Cerise

Continuing our infrequent breakdown of summer brews, today we highlight Cerise from Founders Brewing Company. Coming from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Cerise comes in at 6.5%abv and is “kind of a Shirley Temple for adults” (see the video below), a distinction that comes from the use of locally sourced cherries throughout the brewing process. The result is a tart and sweet warm weather tipple.

Learn more about Cerise through the entertaining video (made by the awesome guys at Beer America) found after the jump.
