Slovakian designer Peter Varga has garnered significant praise over the last several years for his bicycle designs. In 2007, his master’s project (a folding bicycle) won a national prize for design. The previous year, the above shown Citycle took 8th at the International Bicycle Design Competition. And, finally, last year, Varga left that same competition with a merit prize – lifted for his design of a recumbent fixed gear bike.

Most exciting about all Varga’s work is that each and every bike appears a fun ride. Not our typical rides, sure, but nonetheless impressive.

Rucksacks tend to split into two camps: either they’re overly rustic or their made of buttery soft leather. This bag, by Ann Demeulemeester – or Ann D for those too lazy to spell her name – falls into the latter camp. As far as high end designer rucksacks go, this is actually one of the cheaper options out there (we’re well aware that calling anything with a £570 price tag cheap is bordering on insanity). Our only nitpick with this is that the strap might make it uncomfortable to carry heavy loads. (The Corner)

We’re a big fan of getting value for money, so anything piece that doubles as two pieces in one is always gonna be up our alley. And whaddya know? this parka does just that. We know we tend to pick shoes from the crazier side of spectrum at times (read: 99% of the time) but here’s a shoe you could wear to the office. Of course, wearing this shoe depends a lot of whether you’d want to wear £400 shoes to the office, but that’s neither here nor there. There’s are a handsome, understated pair of shoes and the brogue detail quirk is enough to sate the crazy in us. (Oki-Ni)

03. Jay-Z to Release Memoir This Fall

“Jay-Z is gearing up to finally release his long-awaited memoir. According to Rolling Stone, the book will be called Decoded and is due out on November 16 of this year. Hov worked with Dream Hampton to create the 336-page tome, which will be a combination of lyrics, memoir, and interviews with family and friends. The book was completed a few years back, but Jay decided to hold off on releasing it until now.” (XXL)

The iPad market takes another step in the very high end with Tod’s take on the modern day device. As Luxist tells us. “Famed Italian luxury goods firm Tod’s is offering world’s most expensive iPad case, which in this case is actually in excellent taste. The luxurious case, finished in genuine alligator, is priced at $4,900 – almost ten times the cost of Apple’s un-embellished 16GB iPad itself. The one-of-a-kind accessory is handmade in Italy from the world’s finest grade alligator skin, and will be available in brown, blue and tan from Tod’s boutiques worldwide beginning in November.”

Continuing our infrequent breakdown of summer brews, today we highlight Cerise from Founders Brewing Company. Coming from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Cerise comes in at 6.5%abv and is “kind of a Shirley Temple for adults” (see the video below), a distinction that comes from the use of locally sourced cherries throughout the brewing process. The result is a tart and sweet warm weather tipple.
