Selectism - Martin Margiela Eyelet Belts for Autumn 2010

Por Vocacao gets some stock of these eyelet belts from the MMM Autumn 2010 collection. Their description says it best: “A good test on your DIY skills, should be these ligne 11 Margiela Eyelet Belts featuring an average of 140 eyelets each. Considering the
amount of time spent punching each hole and then setting the eyelet in the thick leather, we’d say these were worth a lot of extra working hours on some italian worker’s payroll.” Rolling…

Selectism - K-Swiss and Jack Spade for Take Ivy Book Launch

Many, many fans of the original Take Ivy K Swiss and Jack Spade for Take Ivy Book Launch book (which in itself was incredibly difficult to find for anything less than a few hundo) have been waiting for that all English reprint coming next Tuesday, August 31. You can of course order K Swiss and Jack Spade for Take Ivy Book Launch the book online but if you happen to be near a Jack Spade shop on Tuesday, you may want to get your hands on a special $245 edition which includes an appropriate grey sweater and a bridle leather belt – all done in collaboration with K-Swiss as well. It is a nice little set which places well against the back drop of one of the most anticipated book releases in menwear this year.

Selectism - Q&A with David Keyte of Universal Works

Pursuitist (how do I pronounce that?) delivers a quick Q&A with Universal Works founder, David Keyte. When asked where the line resides in the market, “With someone like Oi Polloi, we are much more with our peers and like brands. But we also have some skate stores and some less fashion-type stores who buy the collection, as well as more tradition stores like Fenwick’s of Bond Street. We really love that, it’s well – universal!  Really our peers are anyone selling well-made, understated non-branded honest clothes for men. There are a few out there in the US, Scandinavia and, especially, Japan.”

Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale

selectism - Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale

As Summer comes to close, we begin highlighting fall seasonal brews.

Smuttynose, of Portsmouth, NH, begins shipping their Pumpkin Ale this month calling it “our homage to the craft and heritage of America’s brewers.” At 6.3% ABV, the beer follows local New England traditions of employing pumpkins that dates back to colonial times. Using squash and pumpkin allowed brewers to extend their supply of malt.

With the weather we had in New England earlier in the week, it isn’t hard to believe Autumn really is around the corner.

Selectism - Diego Zuñiga Autumn/Winter 2010 "CRIPTO Collection"

A variety of style blogs have pointed us at the Diego Zuñiga collection for Autumn 2010. Entitled, “CRIPTO,” the  Zuñiga delves deep into the world of the goth inspired fashion. “Inspired by the Gothic art that heads the branch of the architecture in Europa’s excellent countries. For Diego Zuñiga the man of CRIPTO represents the personage inspired by the functionality, and to be of the gargoyles of Notre Dame, the attitude and managing of Gaudi’s architecture (Spanish Architect), the scene this where it is unrolled and overcoat the offer towards the new man… The tones are gray oxford, stained, navy blue, light gray and black. In materials as wool…” (photos: dianepernet)

Edwin ‘Wyatt’ Crew Neck Jumper

Selectism - edwin-wyatt-sweater-01

You know winter’s truly here when you can bust out the thick knitwear (and use the phrase ‘bust out’). This Edwin piece is a step outside of their denim clad boundaries   but, surprisingly, it’s a great knit. Orange (or ‘fire’ if you’re Edwin) is a great alternative colour to have, just as versatile as navy if you know what you’re doing in the colour-matching department. (Flatspot)

finke furniture 01 curatedmag Desk and Chair by Josh Finke

Furniture from Curated

Influenced by stalwarts of California design Green & Green and Sam Maloof, furniture maker Josh Finke has produced a solid set of table and chair. The inspiration comes primarily in the craft (exposed joinery, etc.) and there is a discernible Green & Green aesthetic. I’m most tickled by the movement of the stretchers… which I think are lovely.

Yves Saint Laurent Sheepskin Collar Jacket

Selectism - yves-saint-laurent-sheepskin-collar-coat-01

We feel like idiots for even saying this, but the whole classic fighter pilot look is very hawt this season. Take this YSL Sheepskin collar jacket for instance, Without the sheepskin collar (which is detachable) it’s a pretty ordinary bomber, the collar helps it stand apart. And when something costs £1,195, standing apart is the least it can do. (Matches)
