Wallpaper* “International” Bike by Kinfolk & Coat

Selectism - Wallpaper* "International" Bike by Kinfolk & Coat

The “International” for Team Wallpaper* is one of a handful of bicycles that the magazine helped develop. Many international friends worked on the series. Shuichi Kusaka of US-Japanese operation Kinfolk built the frames. Coat in Portland, OR painted the frames while the custom saddles were made by the Brooks Saddle Co. Nivaldo de Lima worked on the custom bicycle bags for the one-offs. A great project overall.

Marni Thick V-Neck Jumper

Selectism - marni-v-neck-jumper-01

We’re usually fans of the crewneck, but having a couple of V-necks never hurt anybody. Our main issue with Marni is that as it’s such a short name, it’s very easily rhymeable. Which can only mean one thing – it’s only a matter of time before Rick Ross starts rapping about it. We’d suggest that buying a calm, sensible piece like this will help you sidestep the inevitable rapper onslaught, but it’s not like Rozay wears any of the designers he raps about. (Matches)

Peter Jensen Print Poplin Shirt

Selectism - peter-jensen-prints-shirt-01

Can you tell we’re excited about winter yet? We could go on about the myriad reasons we’re in love with the colder seasons but the reason is that we can recommend a shirt for layering purposes. This print might be a bit much for some folks to wear in its full glory, but it’d also work as a nice contrast under a plain cardigan or crewneck. If you’re unsure, just tone down the rest of your outfit. The ‘blindly running through a 70’s themed thrift shop’ look is never a good one. (Opening Ceremony)

m 01 selectism M Tokyo Japan

Designed by keen mountaineer Mitsuo “M”, M Tokyo Japan is manufactured using traditional techniques in a small workshop. Pride in production also follows admiration for adventurers past, for M is inspired by the feats of George Mallory and has a remarkably fun premise – “a group of men form an exploration party in quest of his camera that is said to be left behind on Mount Everest. Each collection unveils a chapter of this adventure, with the first seeing the men set off to get to the foot of their first mountain…”

Available now from Garbstore. Above is a detail of the Mountain Parka, full images of the M collection follow.

Elka For Norse Projects Raincoat

Selectism - norse-projects-elka-raincoat-01

We’re officially late on this but godammit, we’re gonna feature it anyway. And plus, it’s actually been raining where we live, so a raincoat should be on everyone’s wish list. Before anyone starts, yes it is a bright shade of yellow. By now we hope we’ve featured many brightly coloured coats that you’ve become desensitized to it – like watching a 20 year old risque Rap video, it should just look normal by now. Anyway, the all navy everything outfit makes for an exceedingly dull look. (Goodhood)

01. Glass Museum To Open In New Bedford, Mass.

“The New Bedford Museum of Glass will host its grand opening celebration the weekend of September 10–12. Under the direction of NBMOG executive director Kirk J. Nelson, extensive renovations begun last November have transformed 4,000 square feet of factory space at the Wamsutta Mill Complex into a glittering crystal palace.” (The Bee).

02. NBA superstar Deng returns to his Sudan roots

“Luol Deng is getting drenched. While most sports stars spend their off-season on the beach, Britain’s NBA superstar is soaking up a Southern Sudanese wet-season deluge.” (BBC).

03. A Continuous Lean: On the Green

“The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is America’s finest exhibition of vintage automobiles—and an insurance company’s worst nightmare, with 175 priceless cars set on the fairway of the famed 18th hole of the Pebble Beach Golf Links (the first public course to be ranked No.1 in America by Golf Digest). This year’s show marked the 60th anniversary of the event, which started when a group of car enthusiasts parked their vintage rides on the course following the inaugural Pebble Beach Road Race of 1950; the 2010 display was a beautiful range of restored American luxury cars from makers including Pierce-Arrow, Lincoln and Cadillac, as well as stunning European designs like the Mercedes Simplex (the oldest Mercedes on the road today), a host of rare Bugattis and, in a separate presentation outside Pebble Beach’s main clubhouse, the latest concept and supercars from brands including Lexus, Bentley and Aston Martin. To document this all-American event, NOWNESS sent Michael Williams, a connoisseur of US-made apparel, who started his hugely popular, highly elegant blog,A Continuous Lean, in 2007, and who also contributes frequently to GQ and Selectism. We caught up with him to get the skinny on the car extravaganza, captured in close-up for today’s story by Douglas Friedman.” (Nowness).
