Wood Bicycle and Book Shelf

Selectism - Wood Bicycle and Book Shelf

Thanks to NickJ for sending this one over. Check this wonderful bike shelf being shown over on K&S. “Made from solid wood (in this case, Walnut) and suspended by a solid steel square rod mount, this shelf can hold both your bike, as well as anything else you want on it quite easily. If you want to just showcase your bike, that’s fine, but if you want to utilize the space for books, flowers, bike accessories, etc., that’s what it’s there for.”

The unit nicely doubles as a book shelf. The bicycle hangs into a cut-out which reminds me of a reverse french cleat.

More looks at the Wood Bicycle and Book Shelf after the click.

  1. Michael:

Where can I buy this ? I’m in the UK is it possible to order on line. Thanks for your help, in advance,

    MN

  2. JuiceMajor:

    This is brilliant!
    Where can I get one?

  3. bork:

I want to see that bike inserted into the rack or removed from it without disturbing the precariously balanced cluster of colour-coordinated books.

  4. Easier than you think and give them some slack on the color coordinated books. It is a press shot.

  5. Tom:

Where can I get the books!

  6. Very nice idea!I would also like to have such a shelf.

  7. Absolutely gorgeous, I’ll echo the request for a link to purchase one, or if hand made plans. @bork you’re probably right about the movement of the bike knocking the books over, but It looks like an excellent place to store a helmet (on an vintage mannequin head)

  8. Nice. That would beat stuffing my bike into the hall closet like I’m doing now…

  9. I saw this on notcot earlier, and here is a link to the article on the guy’s blog: http://knifeandsaw.wordpress.com/furniture/bike-shelf/
It’s a bit pricey, especially considering shipping to Europe, but still very cool

  10. I know, I know, the books are a bit much. Just thought it looked good. The shelf actually stays on there real well, but some book ends would probably be needed. Thanks to everyone for the kind words. If you are interested in ordering one, just email me at cbrigham@gmail.com. Can’t guarantee a super quick turnaround, but I’d be happy to talk to you about when I can get it to you. Thanks again.

  11. ATrain:

And it would double as a work stand!

  12. jfreema2:

Looks like this only works for men’s bikes. To bikes for ladies still have differing cross-bars?

  13. Anyone who has ever hung a free-standing shelf will know that it’s almost impossible to hang it without it later sagging. I couldn’t imagine storing a lot of books on it, much less a bicycle.

Then again, if it was professionally installed it could well do the job. Then again, anyone who could professionally install it (or anyone who could do a decent DIY job on it) would likely be able to build the shelf without the need to buy online.

  14. Not so sure on this. I have hung my fair share of shelves (including free standing) and if installed properly, there is no sag. Would be nice to see this with a French ledge/hook as well.

  15. Ralph T:

Beautiful, but it will only work with fixies– no room for cables / cable stops.

  16. Beautiful design could easily be adapted for extra strength.
