Selectism - "Touchable Sound: A Collection of 7-inch Records from the USA" Book

How can we resist the art of the 7inch? ”Soundscreen’s next book, Touchable Sound: A Collection of 7-inch Records from the USA Touchable Sound: A Collection of 7 inch Records from the USA Book is an exciting celebration of nearly 25 years of labor intensive 7-inch record packaging and design. Curated by Brian Roettinger, Mike Treff, and Diego Hadis, Touchable Sound features over 300 records and 600 bands, with an introduction from the always insightful Henry H. Owings, and essay contributions from Simple Machine’s founder Kristin Thomson, Amphetamine Reptile founder Tom Hazelmyer, Three One G founder Justin Pearson, and many more.” Look for the book in October.

Available for pre-order from Soundscreen and Amazon Touchable Sound: A Collection of 7 inch Records from the USA Book.

Selectism - Another Look at the Brooks Oxford Roll Up Raincoat

Here’s a second look at the Brooks Oxford Roll-up Raincoat we covered back at BBB this Summer – they call it a rain cape. “The cape is produced in Manchester and is a combination  of waxed cotton with Dashing Tweed accents.  Dashing Tweed is a reflective tweed designed in Savile Row and produced in Scotland.” Nicely done and beautiful.

Wood Bicycle and Book Shelf

Selectism - Wood Bicycle and Book Shelf

Thanks to NickJ for sending this one over. Check this wonderful bike shelf being shown over on K&S. “Made from solid wood (in this case, Walnut) and suspended by a solid steel square rod mount, this shelf can hold both your bike, as well as anything else you want on it quite easily. If you want to just showcase your bike, that’s fine, but if you want to utilize the space for books, flowers, bike accessories, etc., that’s what it’s there for.”

The unit nicely doubles as a book shelf. The bicycle hangs into a cut-out which reminds me of a reverse french cleat.

Selectism - RIMOWA 1950's Reproduction Aluminum Luggage Case

RIMOWA delivered the first ever aluminum corrugated case back in the 50’s. Today, they repro the original in a limited short run. “The vintage case is limited to a production of 1,950 pieces and is offered in six different sizes—small suitcases to large travel pieces. “We particularly want to appeal to our customers who still remember the original cases, because their parents, perhaps, travelled with them on their first trips. Pure nostalgia! We have been constructing cases of corrugated aluminum for 60 years and would like to offer our loyal customers a really special treat with these models”, Dieter Morszeck comments on the reason behind the exclusive limited edition series”

Denon AH-A100 100th Anniversary Headphones

Selectism - Denon AH-A100 100th Anniversary Headphones

Any headphone nutcase (including myself) will tell you that the benefits of wood cups are unlike any sound you have heard. Technically I cannot tell you why this is the case, but I do know that on other cans, the wood vibrates the sound in a unique manner. The latest into this class are the mahogany cups on Denon’s AH-A100 100th Anniversary headphones. The pads are listed as “skin-soft” which frightens me a little. A better descriptor may have been “supple.” Oh, and fear not, Denon makes killer cans – no doubt. Available at most retailers shortly. Part of that Denon 100 Legacy series. Sick packaging as well…

Selectism - aitor-throup-prelude-selfridges-london-selectism-

Those in London may be inclined to stop at Selfridges (avoid their sushi bar), for a look at Aitor Throup’s touring work. “As part of the worldwide ‘tour’ (with simultaneous in-store suspended installations in London, Berlin, Antwerp, New York and Tokyo), Selfridges London is hosting the first steps of this exciting new venture that ties the worlds of installation art and fashion together – with outstanding results… The three trousers available to buy (‘Prelude’) are individually refined versions of key archetypal Throup designs from his on-going archive of ideas and concepts, introducing the viewer to a world of metaphorical narratives and technical innovation.”

“Andy Warhol Enterprises” at the Indianapolis Museum of Art

selectism - "Andy Warhol Enterprises" at the Indianapolis Museum of Art

After reviewing Making Money recently, the forthcoming exhibition Andy Warhol Enterprises at the Indianapolis Museum of Art is a natural post. Warhol’s been subject of three (perhaps four) separate exhibitions over the last 18 or so months, and in each distinct portion of his career is presented with firm and solid new scholarship.

Andy Warhol Enterprises examines Andy Warhol’s lifelong exploration of commerce, consumerism, and the business of art making. With artwork ranging from shop window designs and commercial illustrations of the 1950s to his groundbreaking paintings of consumer products and stars of the 1960s, and ultimately to his ventures into tv, film and magazines of the 70s and 80s, Andy Warhol Enterprises serves as a window into the world of commerce and art, and the ways that Warhol intentionally blurred the lines between the two.

The exhibition opens on October 10 and extends through January 2, 2011. An example of work featured and a preview video for Andy Warhol Enterprises after the leap.

Selectism - UNIS Autumn 2010 Collection

GQ gets a first look at the forthcoming Autumn 2010 collection from NY’s UNIS line. A good mix of men’s garments make up the collection which plays it relatively safe amongst the classic and contemporary plays. No piece is overdone. Dig in.
