selectism - Sé Collection II by Jaime Hayón

British luxury furniture brand Se have launched its second collection during London Design Week. The new furnishings are designed by highly lauded Spaniard Jaime Hayon. Included are chairs, mirrors, sofas, and tables. In full, the objects represent Hayon’s first full line of furniture.

Inspiration is drawn from a good range of things – beetles for the “Beetley” seating and glassware for the “Flute” tables.

More looks at the collection after the jump. (via Dezeen).

Peter Jensen ‘Waffle’ Jumper

Selectism - peter-jensen-waffle-jumper-01

One of the positives of menswear’s growth over the past few years has been the acceptance of colours. It’s been a long journey, but we think it’s fair to say that not many folks baulk at a burgundy coloured jumper like they used to. We haven’t reached rainbow levels yet but people can see that a piece like this Peter Jensen jumper is just as wearable as a navy knit. And it’s made in the UK, too, if you’re into that sorta thing. While it’s not quite cold enough to bring out the heavy duty outerwear yet, it’s never too early to start looking. We can never get enough herringbone when the sun takes a break, so a piece like this was always going to pique our interest. The navajo fleece lining and herringbone wool makes this a piece you won’t need to break out until November. But at least you’ll be prepared. (End)

Selectism - Brooks Brothers Black Fleece "Altama" Boots for Spring 2011

Another Brooks Brothers post showcasing some exclusive footwear for Spring 2011. ACL gets the call on the “mil-spec” boots worked over for the Black Fleece collection from Altama. “One interesting thing from the Brooks Brothers spring 2011 preview were these 100% Berry compliant desert boots from Thom Browne’s Black Fleece collection. The mil-spec boots are basically the same as the originals from military supplier Altama, save Thom Browne’s signature red, white and blue trim. Amazing to see military style end up at Brooks Brothers, of all places.”

Selectism - Folk Hand Knit Moss Stitch Cardigan

Gleaming. This cardigan in pink from Folk may work for the generous. “The body pattern to this design is also used in the block colour t-shirts. Elbow patches are made from cow suede for durability and to add texture.” The cardigan is part of Folk’s Autumn 2010 collection. Could the model look anymore upset?

01. Three Generations At Nathan Liverant And Son

“”What do you think of that chair?” the proud, smiling dad said, looking down on his 3-year-old son, who quickly replied “Chippendale,” to the amazement of the couple standing in the room. Zeke Liverant probably thought “That’s my boy,” as he walked away from another house call with both the chair and Arthur in tow. Today Arthur tells that story, adding, “It was one of the first words I learned, not knowing it had anything to do with furniture, but was the names of the cartoon characters, Chip and Dale.” (The Bee).

02. Motorcycle Diaries: Apolis Vietnam Expedition

“Seems as if there’s wanderlust in the air. In the spirit of travel and adventure, Global Citizen Raan Parton, of Apolis, is heading out on what sounds like one hell of an epic field trip(next time, fellas). Motorcycling through the Vietnamese country side on old Russian Minsk bikes, Raan will be working on some product development, field testing some recently released Apolis Transit Issue gear(the Expedition Duffel being a standout and perfect carry-all for such a trip), documenting the modern face of Vietnam and, along the way, having a hell of a time.” (secret forts).

03. Foyn-Johanson House / Harrison and White (above).

“We see one of the key issues in Australian housing being how we use the sun to improve new and existing houses. In this project we made a very clear attempt to form a house around the idea of preserving light into a garden space. As houses become (often unnecessarily) bigger and blocks smaller, the available land for gardens is reduced. We have created a garden that enjoys light all day – the form has cut from it the rays of the morning sun to ensure light falls onto the growing area, one which the clients will use for the growing of food.” (arch daily).

04. Top job would suit me – Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce

“Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce believes he is good enough to manage any of Europe’s top clubs.” (BBC).

Ryan McGinley’s Music Obsessions

“Today’s exclusive film was sent to us by Ryan McGinley, the lauded artist-photographer whose heady visuals of cavorting teens (awash with atmospheric blurs, lens flares and flashes of light) have made him one of the most in-demand image-makers of the past decade. Earlier this year we were thrilled to premiere his film Entrance Romance (It Felt Like a Kiss), so imagine our excitement when we were presented with this intimate portrait of Smith Westerns and Girls—two of America’s most buzzed-about bands—at this year’s Pitchfork festival.” (nowness)
