Selectism - Naoto Fukasawa 'Siwa' Paper Hat Collection

Designboom turns us onto designer Naoto Fukasawa and his “siwa” paper hat collection. “designer naoto fukasawa has created a series of hats that are made entirely out of traditional japanese washi-paper. the three pieces entitled ‘ivy cap’, ‘hat’, and ‘tyrolean hat’, are constructed  from a new type of paper called ‘naoron’ developed by washi-paper manufacturer onao which withstands both moisture and weight, resulting in a lightweight material that does not tear easily.”

selectism - Heller's Cafe for Warehouse @ J. Crew

Another interesting addition to J. Crew’s “good company” theme finds Larry McKaughan, founder of Seattle’s Heller’s Cafe, teaming with Warehouse to supply rare, one-of-a-kind treasures, to the J. Crew online shop. The pieces, only 20 in all, hit the web today. The range includes terrific collectibles like the US Mail bag above, along with vintage t-shirts and chambray work shirts from the 1930s. View the full offerings here. Fun stuff, even if you can’t get your hands on it.

Some favorites after the jump.

Selectism - Ruby Ralph Lauren Tote Bags

Honeyee highlights a few tote bags from the Rugby line. Patchwork and camo skulls seem to be the themes of the moment. Both look to align themselves with the arrival of Rubgy into the Japan market. Gosh, it would look like they didn’t get this line before us, but will it make people Stateside pay more attention to it?

SNS Herning ‘Marked’ Cardigan

selectism - sns-herning-marked-cardigan-01

Autumn’s finally here, which means it’s time to start (or should that be continue?) looking at weightier pieces. This SNS cardigan is suitable as a makeshift coat. Just have a large umbrella to hand at all times – it’s one of those pricey-but-worth-it-pieces (as opposed to pricey-because-of-the-branding-pieces). [Tres Bien]

Perks And Mini Scentered Shirt

Selectism - perks-and-mini-paisley-shirt-01

Our main problem with paisley shirts is what we like to call the ‘Simon Doonan’ look. No offense to the man, but it’s not a look we’re going for. We’re not expecting many folks to be into this – it looks like the only patterns bloggers are comfy with are camo and checks – but we like it. Just layer it under a cardigan or a crewneck and you should be fine. (Someday)

“This week we’re offering FACT readers the chance to win a colossal Ninja Tune CD and vinyl box-set, created to celebrate the label’s 20th anniversary. The list of artists involved is frankly, ridiculous. 02. The Hello Project & Sharpie Present: Without A Hello

“We’ve teamed up with The Hello Project to hold a handful of contests giving you the chance to win all kinds of cool prizes, of the Sharpie variety, of course! Each contest will focus on specific types/themes of “Hello.”  And this month, The Hello Project and Sharpie are determined to bring the doodler out in all of you!” (sharpie)

03. House in Afife / Nuno Brandao Costa

“The house, a project for a friend of mine, was meant to fit into the rural scale of the site. All was therefore mostly kept at ground level, in two separate concrete volumes, grazing against the existing granite wall that set the geometry of the plan.” (archdaily)

04. 50 years of 606 (above)

“Designed back in 1960 by a 28-year-old Dieter Rams, the 606 Universal Shelving System has enjoyed 50 years of continuous production by Vitsœ (the image above is Rams’ original sketch of a shelving system from 1955).” (iainclaridge)

Curated reports, “Atelier Pfister brings together eleven young Swiss designers to produce a collection of solidly crafted, “radical” material. Sure, the pieces have a touch of Scandinavian minimalism about them, but also exhibit a charming quality and range that is hard to deny. The bed frames and seating furniture are highlights.”

Persol McQueen 714s Sunglasses

Selectism - Persol McQueen 714s Sunglasses

Our friends at Esquire point us to a re-issue of the classic 714 frame from Persol. “In 2006, one of Steve McQueen’s personal pairs of Persols was auctioned off for $70,000… But this October, Persol is unveiling a brand-new line of classic McQueen 714s. The Italian master frame-makers took painstaking efforts to reproduce the originals, and even took a few steps to make them better. The frame comes from a single piece of acetate, broken at three points for the hinges. They then go through a finishing process that creates a seamless silhouette and extra comfortable body.” A variety of colors will be up for purchase and they should be available through most retailers.
