Our friend Chris Milliman has a knack for capturing the American scene. Last Winter, he immersed himself in Snowmobiling and Ice Fishing… pastimes often ignored but undeniably indicative of a certain American spirit. This Summer, Milliman turned his lens to horse shoes, for a project simply titled Shoes. The resulting photographs document a rarely (and I say this without irony) viewed pastime. Honest in their composition, Milliman’s images reveal a world of friendly, if not intense, competition.

Executive Edits spent a few moments with the folks behind the Oak Street Bootmakers line. We covered their debut not too long ago and this Q&A does a good job of giving some more background on the line.  On when they plan on bringing boots to the market? “Boots are on the way, but we aren’t about cranking out new items just to put something out there.  We’re about crafting something truly special.” Chicago represent.

So Evisu stepped up their outerwear game a while back and here’s the results. We all know the benefits of waxed coats by now, so it should be no surprise that Evisu have used the fabric on this coat. On the details tip/flex (we can’t decide which 90’s hip hop phrase to bring back today) is the plaid turned up cuff – a nice touch on a jacket that would’ve bordered on boring otherwise. Our fussy side is telling us that those press stud fastenings would be quite annoying to do up everyday though. (Oki-Ni)

Continuing coverage of New York Fashion Week, we take a look at Richard Chai for Original Penguin. The relationship between brand and designer kicks off with something of a teaser, just 8 pieces coming for Spring in anticipation of a full 25 piece collection for Autumn 2011. “Richard and Original Penguin share an aesthetic – smart, classic clothes with a touch of modern whimsy,” says Ann Payne, Creative Director of Original Penguin. “Richard is creating for us something totally new, while at the same time staying true to the roots of our heritage brand.”

It is not an easy period to be a denim junkie. Those who seek the exclusivity of the raw selvedge craze soon discover that breaking in a pair of jeans is a job in itself. As fun as it may seen to break in your blue jeans from a raw state, it is a bit commitment. As the term selvedge becomes the common buzzword amongst the mass consumers of the U.S.A., many will soon realize that wash is more important for them. For those, the options remains.
