Selectism - 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2011 Runway

Our man Jacob took a moment yesterday for the 3.1 Phillip Lim runway show – both on and backstage. We’ll focus on the runway looks for the moment… Standouts may well be the leathers used but the blues and paisleys are giving it a run as well. For now, we’ll let you discuss…

Selectism - Band of Outsiders Spring 2011 Presentation

Shot yesterday during NYFW, we present looks from the Band of Outsiders presentation for Spring 2011. The presentation itself sets the look for the season by placing their gents in casual repose.  We will of course see these looks forthcoming in their classic “insta-matic” style soon enough. For now, we hope these looks will hold you over.

Senz Umbrellas By Mina Perhonen

senzumbrellas selectism 2 Senz Umbrellas By Mina Perhonen

The last time we covered Senz umbrellas on Selectism was back in 2008. I think it is time to say hello again. “There are many inadequacies in umbrellas – easy to flip by strong wind, not user friendly enough, cover the user’s front view, potentially health and safety issue… three Dutch students decided to redefine umbrella design and founded Umbrella. The most outstanding feature of SENZ is its ability to function perfectly in 100mph wind. Its secret lies in its ‘short front, long back’ silhouette, which balances well in the wind, as opposed to being caught in the thick of it. The short film on the SENZ website is a convincing demonstration, showing the design is fully functional even on a bike!” (tsilly)

“Andy Warhol: Making Money” Book

Selectism - “Andy Warhol: Making Money” Book

Curated gets an early preview look a new Warhol book dropping on September 28th. “Rarely do we get to peek at a private gift. In essence, that is what Andy Warhol: Making Money “Andy Warhol: Making Money” Book, a forthcoming release from Skira/Rizzoli, allows. Warhol produced the original drawings for Andy Warhol: Making Money “Andy Warhol: Making Money” Book in 1981. That year the artist presented them as a gift to Berkeley Reinhold, just a young girl at the time. The daughter of John Reinhold and cousin of visionary critic and curator Henry Geldzahler, Berkeley was Warhol’s ear to youthful trend.”

Pre-order now from Amazon “Andy Warhol: Making Money” Book.

Selectism - A Little Friday Eye Candy

01. Color and Texture Inspiration from the SFMoMA

“I took a ton of photos but I thought the ones above were quite nice and could perhaps provide some inspiration. I know the names of a few of these artists but I’ve decided that’s not important. What’s important is to soak in the colors, and textures and all that jazz and have a totally hippy experience looking at them.” (kitsunenoir)

02. A House Awaiting Death by EASTERN Design Office

“This house on the outskirts of Isa, Japan is by architects EASTERN design office and has been raised on a concrete block to afford views of the sea.” (dezeen)

03. A Little Friday Eye Candy (above)

“We’ve had a nice response to the Design for You contest so far. I thought I’d leave you today with some more shots of the Eames chairs after the artists spent some time on them. These prizes will be unlocked in the final week of the competition. Look out for interviews with the artists coming up on Lifework.” (hm-lifework)

04. Wood Stock

“Wood stock is a measuring tool that teachs to recognize some different woods.” (notcot)

Selectism - BEAMS Autumn/Winter 2010 Lookbook

ACL is getting much love on SL this week. Their content heavy looks just keep on pouring in. IN the last couple of days, ACL has featured looks into Japan’s BEAM line by showcasing lookbook shots from their current Autumn 2010 offering. I have a fishy feeling we’ll be seeing BEAMS in the domestic U.S.A. soon, especially with the influx of other Japan “flagship” giants in NYC.

A few macro looks from the BEAMS Autumn/Winter 2010 Lookbook after the jump. See it all on ACL.

Kitsuné for Mackintosh Autumn/Winter 2010

Selectism - Kitsuné for Mackintosh Autumn/Winter 2010

You have to hand it to Kitsuné. The French brand has done something interesting with their Voyager collection. They have convinced Mackintosh to allow them to “rework” three classic trench coats for Autumn 2010. Three initial cities – Tokyo, Paris, and London – are all represented with through three individual trench coats. They have “integrated into each item some very special pockets: one for your passport, one that enables you to catch your pen easily, a chest pocket which is the perfect size for your flight ticket or your immigration documents. Of course each item is designed in the finest rain coat material true to Mackintosh with a Kitsuné touch.

Warriors of Radness Autumn 2010

Selectism - Warriors of Radness Autumn 2010

We’ve been on the W.O.R. tip for some time and we’re not alone. Warriors appeared on the cusp of a new appreciation for what many call surf. Truth is that would be a compartmentalizing their message. W.O.R. is bigger than one “labeling” term and they continue to prove this with their Autumn 2010 offering. “The Fall 2010 Warriors of Radness collection is now in stores. New items include oversized sweatshirts, pleated baggy cotton pants, pullover anoraks in various fabrics, corduroy, trench coats, sweatpants, jacquard knit shirts and much much more, including new radical t-shirt prints. The summer never ends. It just gets a little colder.”
