COS Autumn 2010 Collection

Selectism - COS Autumn 2010 Collection

One day, we’ll be seeing the COS shops popping up in North America. The company, which is part of the H&M dynasty has published their Autumn and Winter 2010 looks online. It is indeed a bit of a step up from the H&M line, with more focus on the basics and the more Eu friendly cuts for the gents. Overall, the pricing is moderate and workable as well.

Umbro England Home Shirt by Peter Saville

selectism - Umbro England Home Shirt by Peter Saville

We wanted to keep this news until we knew how the boy’s would perform in the shirts. A hat trick by Defoe on Saturday has alleviated some fears… and our initial reluctance to share the new kit has dissolved.

Peter Saville follows Aitor Throup as shirt “tailor.” The famed Factory Records designer adds his twist to the shoulder – “Inspired by an increasingly diverse England, Saville has created a new fabric print on the shoulder panels of the new England home shirt that is a reflection of his vision of modern England.  Made up of different interpretations of the classic St George’s cross symbol, the pattern is displayed through the repetition of four different coloured crosses that are evocative of the basting stitches synonymous with bespoke tailoring. The traditional red cross is still present alongside blue and green ones, which are colours present in the official England team crest. These have been joined by a purple cross, a blend of all the three previous colours to accentuate diversity.  The conceptual change visually reflects modern England in a noticeable step forward from the current all white kit.”

The styling follows on traditional football shirt types, but adds a longer open neckline to provide additional movement across the chest.

Mismo Limited Edition Shopper

Selectism - mismo-limited-shopper-01

Remember those limited edition shoppers we talked about a while back? Well, they’re out now. The main difference is the shoulder strap, which means that you can finally go handsfree when you’re walking about town (that’s a big deal to us). It’s nice seeing Mismo work on improving their products in ways that are overlooked in the quest for authenticity. (Tres Bien)

Norse Projects Aarhus Canvas Blazer

Selectism - norse-projects-aarhus-blazer-01

Here’s a nice example of a brand updating one of their staples in a useful way. Despite our love for all things Norse, the name patch on their blazer made it a marmite piece instead of a full on staple. It looks like they’ve got the memo this season, removing the patch from their blazer and (finally) making it suitable for the office. Provided the office in question doesn’t mind burgundy casual blazers. (C Store)

Barrett Alley Wallets

Selectism - Barrett Alley Wallets

atimetoget gives us the lowdown on Barret Alley Wallets. “Handmade from top-quality leather and vintage materials, these wallets might just have what it takes to dethrone my beloved Il Bisonte. The striped lining is like a pair of yellow socks with a black suit, nobody else even needs to see it, but knowing it’s there is enough of a reason to do it. The leather is cut with a knife, the lining is cut with a pair of scissors and the thread is pushed through by hand. It might just be physically impossible to put more love into a wallet than Barrett Alley puts into the one you can buy from him.”

Selectism - Swatch New Gent Watches

Swatch is making their men’s presence seen with a new collection. “Swatch is releasing a new, super-sized version of their original classic Gent watch. The debut release comprises a number of toned down colors with simple styling – the tone on tone black and white being our favorites. A nice alternative to that brand that rhymes with Shmee-Shmock. Now on pre-order for a September 20, 2010 launch at colette.”

Massimo Osti Studio MO1/PROJECT

Selectism - Massimo Osti Studio MO1/PROJECT

An interesting new “project” which looks at the work of Massimo Osti. “MO1/PROJECT is a tribute to Massimo Osti’s work, five years after his passing away. It is the first in a series of projects that Massimo Osti Studio will be undertaking in honour of its founder… Artwork that Massimo first created in the 70’s, bringing his experience as a graphic designer to the world of fashion, has been selected from the Studio’s historical archives. Four designs, originally used for posters, promotional labels and gadgets, have been brought back to life, each in a limited edition t-shirt, individually numbered 1 – 99, produced and dyed entirely in Italy, in collaboration with 12th man.”
